“Nice Hotel...Parking lot agreement sucks...if you hungry sorry!!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2012

the hotel is very nice, the room and the facilities. Is very small, but yes, has a great view (if you like to see the roof of the houses)...
there isn't phone in the room so you have to go to the front desk anytime you need something.
rooms are very clean.
the hot water works.
the agreement with the parking lot really sucks...I always have to pay more than what the hotel said... times are from 9am to 9pm and from 9pm to 9am...so if you enter at 8pm they charge you the hour plus the charge of the next 12hours...I dont know you are supposed to pay 10 bucks and you finishing paying more than that.....
if you are hungry at the 10pm so let me tell you that you are in troubles. the funicular is closed at that time, the hotel doesn't have restaurant, you can't take your car becasue the parking lot is closed too...so if you want to eat somethig at night be prepared.
the food in the restaurant in front of Juarez Teather was more than delicious...
BUT PLEASE DONT GET ME WRONG THE HOTEL IS NICE....

Had a very good experience in this hotel. Great view of the city, we were always out walking around. Clean, great beds, you need to let the hot water run a bit till it starts coming out.
It was great taking a lift up and down to the city center

I'm shocked by all of the great reviews of Hotel Balcon del Cielo in Guanajuato! I chose the hotel because it was ranked #2 on Trip Advisor. I've lost confidence in Trip Advisor due to this experience.

The hotel is up on the hill and you have to take a cable car up and down to the town square. It does have a beautiful view, but you can see that by going to the sites up there.

The noise from the city carried and the windows were paper thin. We had teenagers hanging outside our window all night as that is the place where they hang.

They don't have air condition and it was 85-90 degrees out. When I asked about the air conditioning they gave me a fan. However, you have to have the lights on to work the electrical outlets. So you needed to sleep with the lights on or be hot.

The bathroom had a sliding glass door so there was NO privacy.

The staff only speaks Spanish, so if you aren't proficient they aren't much help with attractions in the town.

This is not a #2 hotel. We went into several hotels along the square and they were fantastic. Wish I would have stayed in one of them instead!

We stayed at Hotel Balcon del Cielo on a Friday and Saturday night in April 2012. The view is surreal!!! The hotel provides free access to the Funicular, which goes right down to the middle of Centro. It is literaly right outside the door and it's easily accessible, until 9:45 pm. We missed the last ride one night and ended taking a nice, invigorating walk back up to the hotel! You can also catch a cab for a reasonable price. The room was very clean and the staff went out of their way to be accomodating and helpful. The only issues we had were that the room did not cool down as much as we liked at night. It would have helped to keep the patio door open all night, but the music from below could be heard until 5:00am. Maybe week nights would not be as noisy. The hotel staff provided us with a fan that did drown out most of the noise though. Breakfast is at a scenic restaurant at the bottom of the Funicular. Very nice! All in all we were happy and would stay their again.

We had the pleasure of staying at Balcon del Cielo on our first visit to Guanajuato. The location is unique and wonderful. The hotel is situated right between the landmark El Pipila and the funicular. Our terrace looked directly over the downtown over the city. We've traveled in over 30 countries, and this is the best urban view we've seen. A funicular pass comes with the your stay at the hotel and there's never a wait, just up and down. The elevator puts you right at the downtown square, behind a church. Hotel room is modern, clean and bright, and very boutique-feeling (in a good way). Free coffee and tea in lobby. We speak poor Spanish and never had a problem communicating with hotel staff (some reviewers complain about this but we were fine). There's a path that leads straight down to the dowtown, so we usually walked the path down and took the funicular back. We really, really enjoyed our stay. Recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the downtown, especially those with terrace.

Hotel is hard for taxi drivers to locate: Seems as if they do not know if they should drive around to the top of the mountain and drop off passengers or to drop them off at the foot of the hill to take the funicular up to the hotel. At any rate, once up at the hotel, it offers sweeping views that explain how the city is laid out.

The room is connected to a small souvenir alley that passes a small museum that tells stories about mining and some legends and up to the funicular station that runs cars down and up the mountain all day long.

The hotel is just below a giant statue of Pipila, which attracts Mexicans and foreigners alike especially for an energetic walk up on the weekend.

The room is clean and furnished well. Shower and sink and toilet are all functional and clean. Water is hot, towels and linens clean. Room opens up to balcony that offers truly great views of a beautiful city.

Assistants, who speak Spanish with nearly no English, are responsive and available. We never found the cafe that offers complementary breakfast, but we never looked very hard either. The town square, which is at the foot of the mountain on which the hotel is sited, offers a small park, the theater and churches, the outdoor cafes, and a Sunday band. Once off the funicular, we were in the middle of the city center.

The city is a wonderful place to visit. The hotel is a good choice. We would stay there again.

This is a nice, small hotel. I stayed in room 2, with a private terrace.

When you arrive at the hotel, you will likely take a taxi to the Pipila monument. It's a short walk down a flight of stairs to the hotel. I arrived at night, and several locals pointed the way to me. It's right next to the Zuniga, and I think they are accustomed to seeing lost tourists looking for one or the other. The lobby is inside of the same building as the funicular, so you can follow signs for that as well.

The lobby is locked 24 hours a day, but they are always there to let you in. Only twice in 4 days did I have to wait a few minutes.

Room 2 is right behind the reception area, making it easy to get to. The only downside is that I could hear some noises from the lobby, and I assumed that meant they could hear noises from my room as well.

The terrace is gorgeous, and the view to the city is one of the best parts of this hotel. There's a small table and chairs. It's on the north side of the building, so it was occasionally cold in january.

The room was the cleanest I've stayed in, anywhere in the world!

My room had 2 doubles or queens, I think queens. My only complaint is that some nights were chilly, and an extra blanket would have been nice. But I didn't ask, so maybe they had one available.

The bathroom has a glass door, which seems to be the new stylish thing in hotels. But I hate it, because of the lack of privacy.

The funicular is just around the corner, but still in the same building. It's a short ride down. And you're in the middle of the Jardin.

I have stayed in the Jardin also on several visits. I generally prefer to stay down there, in the middle of everything. But Guanajuato can be VERY noisy until 1 or 2 am in the Jardin. So there's something to be said for a hotel away from the noise. However, the funicular closes around 10, so if you plan to be out late, you would have to take a taxi up to the Pipila.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, unless you are primarily in Guanajuato to party. If that's the case- stay at the Luna.
