The location for one wanting to be in El Centro is great...up an alley behind the Teatro Juarez. Call and they will send a hosueman down to carry your bags and show you the way. Without him you won't find it. Beautiful interiors and great view of the city. Excellent staff. Good WIFI and TV and cable. They could nto be nicer.

The Casa Dionisio is a gem of a B&B in Guanajuato. Perched on a hillside over the very heart of the city, each room has an amazing view, and it was lovely in the evenings to sit on the private balcony and listen to the sounds of the city nightlife below.
The hotel can arrange private parking for those who arrive by car, an invaluable service in a city where space is at a premium.
All in all, a perfect stay!

Our short, very worthwhile stay in this fully-restored b&b was a delight from the moment that we were met at our taxi drop off to the moment of departure for an early morning flight when accommodation was made for an early breakfast. Our rooms provided us with excellent views, very comfortable beds and excellent sliding doors to private balcony. The quality of construction gave great insulation against the city sounds and the dark shades allowed for a siesta when needed! We really appreciated the flat screen TV which also offered wonderfully calming classical music in our case or any music of choice. The management and service were tops, giving us suggestions when needed and immaculate rooms without intruding with our schedules. Guanajuato is truly a city that begs exploration with more than one visit and we intend to return some day and would definitely choose Casa Dionisio!

I travelled to Guanajuato from Mexico city for 2 days, with friends. We had 2 rooms in the hotel, both lovely. The location is high enough to have an amazing view, whilst not being too many steps up- we got a bit scared reading review of some other places, they sounded a lot like hard work! The decor is maybe what I'd call 'stylishly mexican'...some nice touches, without being all out garish and kitsch. Beautiful tiles in the bathrooms, spotlessly clean, a/c, blackout blinds, quiet, free wifi......can't fault it really! Breakfast was coffee, generous fruit plate, toast and jam- delivered to the room at whatever time you request, although my friend and I had ours on the rooftop patio both days, which was really nice. Highly recommended.

We walked in and there was availability. Only one other couple was in the hotel. No hassle whatsoever. They came to our car and got our luggage, showed us a better place to park. The room and hotel were immaculate. The Jacuzzi tub was broken and I would have like a bit more to eat with the continental breakfast but other than that, I have no complaints. The view was amazing and the hotel attendants were quiet and accommodating. The hand carved wood, brick work and old style fixtures are stunning. The amenities are basic, nice room, pretty bathroom, it was a bit of a walk to get there but a very serene environment. My partner and I felt relaxed there. Bring a bottle of wine and some bread or snacks in case you feel like staying in for a night, it's worth it! Up the romantic staircase, there is an upper terrace for all to use with flowers, garden furniture and a small canvas gazebo. A great place to end the day.

We didn't have a good start to our Mexico trip - lost money through pilferage on Continental airlines, plus the taxi driver unceremoniously plonked us on the street leading up to the hotel without showing us which direction the hotel was. To make matters worse, the bell boy from Casa Dionisio who was supposed to have been meeting us was nowhere to be seen. And our roaming wasn't working so we couldn't call the hotel. It was a really bad start to our vacation.

But fortunately a local boy was kind enough to help us call the hotel for us. Things then took off for us from then.

The Casa Dionisio is a pretty understated hotel/B&B. Owned by a Greek, it is actually a home, that had been converted to receive guests. It is perched up on the hill top near the foot of the funicular. As the hotel is set away from the road, the last 50meters or so is up a fairly steep windy set of stairs. So if you have difficulties climbing, be warned! The hotel bell boy, Felix, does a really great job bring your bags up and down the stairs so you should have no problems. The location is just behind the Teatro Juarez, and very convenient walking distance from the Union Garden where most of the evening mariachi action takes place.

The hotel is managed by a wonderful lady, Adriana, who took half a day off just to follow us around to the police station and Continental office at the airport to make our reports on the stolen money. Although she was sick at the time she still made the effort to call us to make sure that we were well looked after.

The hotel facilities are quite homely and very comfortable. Three lovely furnished rooms themed Ranas (frog), Alcatraz (Calla lily) and Sol y Lun (sun and moon), and a roof top terrace. Lovely views from the rooms. Best views from Ranas, which also is the only room with a hot tub. Wifi is strong and fast in the rooms. Breakfast is serve either in the small dining room downstairs, in the bedroom or on the terrace. The breakfast is simple and functional, fruits, toast, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. It was adequate for us, although the other hotel guests were complaining about it being too Spartan. But for us the fresh fruits were more than ample and great. The freshly squeezed orange juice was also very much appreciated.

All in all we had a fantastic stay at the Casa Dionisio. I can’t recommend it enough for anyone visiting Guanajuato. Though our holiday started off badly, Casa Dionisio made it easy for us to remember we were on vacation, and gave us a fantastic introduction to the loveliness of Mexico. The staff of the hotel and simple, hard working and friendly folks who made us feel very much at home.

Some suggestions for improvements: a] Better communications to ensure the bell boy meets staff down where the road stops, and perhaps clear sign posting up to the hotel from the road. Adriana is very friendly and approachable, but if you are staying at the hotel do give her your arrival time so she can make the arrangements to assist you; b]Introduce a Mexican option for breakfast, and also cereal; c] a kettle and coffee cups in the room so guests can make their own hot drinks.

Room Tip: Ask for the La Ranas room.
