“Like Viewing the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia”
Reviewed February 18, 2014

Just crossing the same door that Pípila set on fire to start the War of Independence is an experience. Take a minute to read the history of Mexico as shown in the mural painted over the stairway. Then go counterclockwise to learn Mexico's history. Yes, the exhibits are in Spanish, but even if you just look at the artifacts, read the maps, and look at the photos, you'll learn how far Mexico has come and appreciate what they did to get here.

“A major piece of history”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

The Alhondiga was the site of one of the major events of the 1810 revolution. Its story is well told inside the walls with art and exhibits. There are some heroic parts (with El Piplia the miner who carried a huge stone on his back to be able to start a fire to burn through one of the doors) and some very violent parts (when the rebels entered the slaughtered all of the Spaniards and when the four rebel leaders were captured they were beheaded and their heads were placed on the four corners of the structure). There are a couple of excellent heroic murals as well as a pretty good timeline of Mexican history from the revolution.

“Great museum in an historic space.”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

This museum is housed in the granary that was ground zero for the 1810 Mexican revolution. We learned much about Mexican history here.
