I wanted my husband to experience the old style of Guanajuato! Posada Santa Fe was perfect for that. Right in the heart of Guanajuato you can walk to many anywhere. The rooms were good really big and clean. This is not a typical hotel, if you are looking for the normal square box hotel stay at the Holiday Inn or some hotel like that. This hotel has painting everywhere and great antique furniture!

We enjoy every morning the breakfast outside with the music playing! I will definitely go back to this hotel.

Is one of the gems of Guanajuato.

I had the enchiladas mineras. Very tasty and a nice patio to enjoy the night life. Their flan is excellent as well.

Aside from the young girl who greeted us at the restaurant, the experience at the restaurant Posada Santa Fe Hotel was Way below par. Waiters who didn't speak a word to you (no greeting, menu recommendations, asking whether we wanted coffee/ desserts etc) and food that was barely warm. I sent back my steak (which was nothing special) as it was cold. It came back piping hot but well over done and too tough to eat and it tasted as though they had just shoved it in the microwave. Good margaritas and great for people watching in the main square but we would have had a better experience sat a couple of metres away on a park bench in the same square with some "comida corrida".

We have always eaten at the Posada Santa Fe, when making a trip to Guanajuato with guests, its wonderfully central and its fun to sit in "slice of cheese". OK so the food was not great, but quite passable if you kept it simple and the service used to be charming. Oh dear, this week we went back, the food has got worse, the Cesar Salad with Shrimp needed a microscope to see the shrimps, (4 small ones) and the Avocado and Shrimp was even worse, (3 small shrimps), when we complained (and we do speak Spanish), the head waiter shrugged his shoulders and said that was how it was. To be fair in recompense they took the cost of the expresso coffees, we had instead of a dessert, off the bill. But we left feeling that we had been ripped off and have no wish to return. The price of the meal was the same as an excellent one we had earlier this week at 1810 in Queretaro, but the experience was light years apart.

It was fathers day! We went there for breakfast because it has beautiful view to the main plaza with mariachis. We order juices, fruit, coffee and eggs.
The coffees came first, but there was no sugar / substitute on the table. By the time the sugar came, our coffee were cold.
Then came the eggs, no signs of juices or fruit. The waiter kept saying "it's coming". I asked for 2 scramble egg, no jam, no chess, just plain eggs. My plate was dirty, the eggs seemed like leftovers and were cold. I immediately returned the plate, and ask for nothing else, scared of the consequences. The other two sets of "ranch style eggs" were ok.
Then came the fruit. We were still waiting for the hot coffee. Fruit came before the juices. Fruit was good.
At that time, we didn't want the juices anymore. We had asked for 1 orange juice and 1 grapefruit one. 3 orange juices came. We told the waiter we only needed one but he ignored used and left the 3 juices on the table, and of course, on the bill.
We asked for the bill, the returned eggs and the 2 returned juices were taken out.
We had to cross the street to Starbucks to finally get the hot coffee.
In 2 years leaving in Mexico, this has been our worst culinary experience, in therms of food and services. Too bad it was fathers day.
