I would strongly suggest making a reservation at this restaurant. They are very busy as its the best place around. They will only hold a reservation for 10 to 15 mins! The food is the greatest. If you like beef, I would recommend the Vacio or in English, Flap Meat. It is a huge portion enough for 3 or 4 people and the taste is outstanding. Most, if not all of the portions are large so go hungry and you wont be disappointed. They have a great variety of wines as well and the house wines are also excellent and relatively inexpensive for the quality received. It is easy to get to on Ave Mexico and they have Valet Parking, which is a plus.

I used to live in GDL, and had frequent dinners at La Matera. It is a very unique place with the inside Bar underneath the restaurant combined with a very modern look of the restaurant with open spaces.
The food is Argentinian inspired, where also the pizzas are very good. Nice Provoletas, Empanadas and Mollejas "Sweetbreads", cooked the classic Argentinian style are highly recommended for starters. From the meats, you have a large variety to select: Bife de Lomo, Bife de chorizo with a little more flavor and fat and the Vacio, which is the one I like with its good tasty flavour and good consistence (a bit harder than the bife de lomo, but I go for the flavour) In this restaurant I like to have the meat with fries and always tend to order extra potatoes pure. For dessert we asked for the Alfajor, which was really nice with the Dulce de Leche.
The wine card from Argentinian wines is a bit pricy, due to the import tax, as it was explained by the waiter. But there is plenty to choose from other nationalities to fit everybodies pockets.
It is a restaurant where families are very welcome. The prices are good for the type of quality that you get. It isn't a cheap place, but very recommmended if you want to have a good time with good food.

We went to try out La Matera as the place was recommended by several colleagues. Our starter - the grilled sweetbreads - was probably the best I've had in Mexico so far. We shared one steak - asked the restaurant to cut it in half and serve on two plates - and also ordered their special shrimp, mushroom and asparagus salad. The half-portion of steak was a good call - it was huge! - and the salad was also excellent, as the shrimps were fresh and the veggies well seasoned. The steaks came with rosemary potatoes that were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Finally, a word on the salsa - they give you bread and three "salsas" after you order - the red salsa is tomato based, with a little kick, the chimichurri is one of the better ones I've had at an argentinian grill in Mexico, and the seasoned beans were also excellent. We must have asked for a refill of each during the course of our meal. I understand the place is usually packed so make a reservation - we purposely went for an early lunch (1:00) to avoid the crowds. Patio is a little noisy, and inside is a little dark, but we will likely return in the future in the evening so we can have a great bottle of wine with our meal.
