“Vacation 2014”
Reviewed February 17, 2014 via mobile

Cute and comfortable boutique hotel. Staff very friendly. Rooms are a bit smaller then in pics and could be updated but they are very clean. Restaurant has very good food and at great prices. Steak dinner for 2 came to less then 40.00 including tip and 4 cocktails. Rooftop pool, gym and billiard room.

This hotel looks a bit dark and ordinary from the outside. Inside, it is splendid. The service was efficient and friendly. The first night I had an inside room and it was dark but very quiet. I asked to move and was given a larger room with two windows and a balcony from which I could see San Francisco church and I could here their bells.
The day time concierge, Manuel was very helpful, taking time to print a map for me and call the bus station to get times for my bus back to Puerto Vallarta.
The live music in the grand lobby was delightful.
The hotel feels very European and the rates are great.
Location is also perfect for exploring.
Just go!

Room Tip: Loved room 222 although traffic can be noisy in the daytime with the balcony doors open.

Arriving on the 5:30 a.m.flight on a cold morning in January with room not supposed to be available till afternoon, we were greeted warmly, led to a nice seating area in the lobby and brought a very welcome carafe of coffee , cream, etc. on a tray to tide us over till the breakfast buffet opened at 8. The hotel is situated in the historic area close to all attractions. Our room overlooked all the interesting activity on the street and was quiet, comfortable and relaxing. Because of thick wall, wifi is intermittent in the upstairs, but there is a public computer available to guests off the lobby. We enjoyed our stay very much and will return if we visit Guadalajara again.

We were celebrating my wife"s Birthday so I had booked the Imperial suite because it was the most expensive. Unfortunately it was only a large room with an ensuite bathroom not a suite in the European meaning of the word. We arrived at 1am and the room was overlooking a main thoroughfare busy with traffic and a clock nearby that chimed every 15 minutes. It was impossible to sleep so we asked to change room the next morning. We were moved to an inside room which was quiet but had no windows so was very dark at all times. It also cost half the price. As we booked through Expedia the hotel could not refund anything. However, the manager gave us complementary breakfast as a gesture of goodwill. So, be warned - it is impossible to have a good nights sleep in the most expensive room!!!

The location of this hotel is the best - walking distance to excellent restaurants and cathedrals etc. The staff in the hotel were very helpful and courteous at all times. The rooms were immaculate, the beds were very comfortable, the sheets and pillows were of very high quality. The decor of the hotel was lovely, overall in very good condition and serene.

So despite our problem with the room, this is really is an excellent hotel and well worth the price for a normal room.

We stayed 4 nights here at the end of January - as others have commented, it's a beautiful old building and perfectly sited for walking to the main tourist attractions. The staff were great, and we booked a day trip to Tequila through the hotel, which was also excellent (just a small minivan, not a huge bus). I'd have given it 5 stars except for the room service food which we ordered on the first night, which was pretty mediocre. But otherwise, highly recommended.
