“Great downtown location”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

The morales is a beautiful, clean and well located hotel downtown GDL.
The room was clean. The bedding could be updated.
The service was friendly and efficient.
The piano music in the evening entertaining.
The roof top terraza is comfortable on a sultry GDL evening.
Close to all the hustle and bustle of the vibrant colonial downtown.
I will return, the price is right.

Wonderful friendly staff in an older hotel that is clean and classy; even has a pool. Room was great with king-size bed. Couldn't ask for a better location. Within walking distance of all the museums and cathedrals in old town---and the grande mardado, if you like that sort of thing. Warning, Suggest you NOT eat at the hotel! Food really BAD.

Room Tip: Breakfast not so bad. Lunch and dinner. Better off at a cheap taco place!!!!!

Lots of good to say about this hotel: good location, excellent service, beautiful hotel, etc. However, a few things need to be known before booking here.

1. As beautiful as this hotel is, it is quite dark inside the hotel. The main entry area, the hallways, and even the rooms. All give the feeling of a "dark" stay. It is just not an "open " or lit/bright hotel that one may be used to. Something to keep in mind for your stay.

2. The "fitness center "is very ancient. It desperately needs upgrading and some dumbbells with dumbbell racks.

3. The pool area isn't very inviting, is small, and will most likely not encourage you to use it.

4. I believe I was in one of the best rooms there, room 123 (223 and 323 also good), which had two balconies (most have 1 balcony or no windows at all). In my particular room, something was happening whereby I think when a large truck drove by a certain area outside, it would somehow shake my bed. This would subside after around 9 PM until about 6 AM, then start up again as traffic outside began picking up again. For light sleepers, or those wishing to take a nap during the day, this minor rumbling of the bed every few minutes could be annoying. Perhaps asking for a higher floor would help.

Overall, a good hotel and you probably won't be disappointed. However, it might not hurt to look into others in the same price category nearby.

This was a gorgeous place to stay in Mexico. The staff was courteous and accommodating .
The rooms were decorated beautifully and the energy efficient features were a lesson that US hotels could learn from. The staff even drove our party of 6 to our final destination of Ajijic. Very great place to stay!

This is not a cookie-cutter hotel. It is in an elegant old historic building. The lobby is dark and hospitable--a great place to sit and people watch. The restaurant faces the lobby also. Our room was comfortable, facing a quiet courtyard. We walked to many historical sites and restaurants felt perfectly comfortable walking on the streets after dark. The Hotel Morales sets a high bar for its competition.

Good place to stay. In a great location. Clean rooms and employees are very nice. My only complaints is the loud air-conditioning system in room & the terrible gym facility! Gym has 1 elliptical which is broken. Has one treadmill that squeaks and outdated weightlifting machine. Noticed two other guests complaining about gym.

The room was spacious and clean, the beds are comfortable, the bathroom was good, and there are many nice, public places to sit on each floor. Sometimes the wifi worked, sometimes not.
There is a new, and older part of the hotel. We were in renovated part, and although they did not have rooms with balconies available, there were 2 windows and we had a good view of one of the grand churches, which was lit up beautifully at nite. If I ever stayed again, I would actually request the older part of the hotel, with a balcony, as I adore colonial charm :) Such a beautiful city, with many interesting/ beautiful museums, and good food. Be sure to walk around a lot and explore this city, you will discover interesting places, food, etc. Enjoy.

Room Tip: Wveryone has different priorities but note: some rooms do not have windows If you prefer an update...
