“Very Nice experience in historic Guadalajara”
Reviewed November 9, 2007

We stayed at this hotel in the historic district of Guadalajara the last week of October 2007 and left on Saturday November 3, 2007. Inside, this is a lovely hotel which has been refurbished in a very lovely Spanish style. I was most impressed by the architecture of the building. The hotel is very clean and it is obvious the staff goes out of its' way to insure your comfort. The hotel dining room was small with a limited but satisfying menu.
The hotel is open in the middle so that you can stand on the 3rd floor and look down into the lobby where a beautiful fountain stands. The last two nights we were there, a mariachi band performed in the lobby and the sound carried throughout the building.....this might have been a problem for some folks but not for us (and we are old fogeys).....it was delightful and free entertainment.

I would recommend this hotel without any reservations. One note......when we received our itinenary it was marked EU, which we took to mean European Plan with breakfast included. It did not mean that......and you are on your own for breakfast. Our room was only 80.00 (USD) per night. Pretty good deal.

If we go back to Guadalajara we will stay at this hotel at least for part of our stay........

  • Liked — Location, the beautiful building itself, reminded me of Italian hotel, the ceiling is great to just stare at....
  • Disliked — Maid service was a little slow, but nothing to really complain about....and they are very thorough. There is NO pool.

We just returned from an excellent three (3) night stay in Guadalajara at Hotel Morales! We thought it was an excellent hotel in every way: room was very comfortable and very nice; hotel was beautifully done; fantastic location; great service all the way around (from bell-hops to desk clerks). Almost everyone spoke some English (if that's of any concern). Would stay there again in a heartbeat. Also, the little tacqueria across the street is fantastic! It's open late, is clean, serves great food, and is unbelievably cheap- we went there every night around 11pm for a late-night snack before turning in.

I was there for 5 days - this hotel was beyond my expectations:
1) Location was AWESOME. It was within walking distance to many historical sights. Try the horse carriage ride offered across the street.
2) Staff was professional, courteous, nice, and friendly, especially the bellhops. With my limited Spanish, not only did they not make fun of me, but they were very helpful in English.
3) Price was way reasonable.
4) VERY, Very, very clean, modern, well kept, and safe.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Guadalajara.
I had an incredible time!

Just returned from a one week stay at the Hotel Morales. We chose a junior suite -- the room size was beyond our expectation. Overall, this may be the cleanest hotel we've stay in -- including the US and Europe. The location was perfect - walking distance to most significant sights. We also recommend the nearby restaurant, La Chata -- our favorite during the stay. The only negative on the hotel is the restaurant - service was friendly, but the food quality was very poor for dinner. Breakfast coffee and cereal were fine. Overall, this hotel was a great value, and we would definitely stay there again.

This was our first multi-night stay, in Mexico. The location of the Hotel Morales can't be beat. Many of the historical and cultural sites are within walking distance. If we needed transportation to another location, it too was in walking distance. The Morales is a historical destination in itself as it was built at the end of the 19th century. Charming open spaces and courtyard were more impressive than the pictures! The rooms are adequate and tastefully furnished. The two double beds in the room seemed smaller than an "American" standard size. The mattresses are super, extra firm. We found out most bedding is firm in Mexico. The lighting was a little dim, as the hotel has replaced the incandescent, energy wasting light bulbs, with fluorescent bulbs. The ceilings are very high so the light has a greater distance to travel. Bathroom was standard with large walk in shower. Our room had air conditioning that worked quite well. The hotel is energy conscious in that you have to insert your room key card into a "switch" to activate the electricity in the room. When you remove the card, the electricity will be automatically switched off in about 5 mins. Remote control color TV, large closet, dresser, safe for your valuables and meticulous housekeeping, made for a great room. The hotel is equipped with Wifi, which wasn’t supposed to work in the room, but it did in ours. There are two free computer workstations for guests and the Wifi works in the common areas as well. Our room had a LAN socket for internet use if the Wifi did not work, so be sure to bring a LAN cable unless you don’t mind going to the lobby.
The staff was extremely helpful with directions and transportation. Gilbert and Mario were fluent in English and we had no “problemo” communicating. A taxi was always waiting right outside the door.
We spent 6 wonderful nights at the Hotel Morales and would not hesitate to stay there again.

When I arrived at the Hotel Morales, it was what I wanted and expected. I walked into a covered courtyard with a fountain in the middle; the colonial architecture matches the surroundings. The room was decorated in keeping with the period. A welcome modern convenience was the hairdryer. What it did lack was sufficient drawer space (there were 2 of us staying for a week). I used the shelves in the closet; my roommate chose to live out of her suitcase. Also, the number of hangers was insufficient for 2. Other modern amenities were satellite (or cable?) TV and a telephone. Since ours was an indoor room (looking out into the courtyard) we used the telephone every day to ask what the weather was like.

The staff was pleasant, their English passable -- a bit better than our Spanish. I would definitely recommend the hotel.

One caveat. I followed up my Priceline reservation with a letter directly to the hotel verifying the dates that the two of us would be staying, that we would be arriving late and that we needed two beds. When we arrived, we were told they expected only one person. I whipped out a copy of the letter and we were immediately accommodated.

  • Liked — location and ambience
  • Disliked — poor lighting in room; no drawers; no clock

We stayed at Hotel Morales from Sept. 17 through Sept 20,2007. It was such a great place to stay. The location is perfect and the hotel was really close to everything that makes up the historical center of GDL. The staff was so friendly and attentive. We were able to book two tours through Mario (the lead bellboy) one to Chapala and Ajijic and the next day a City Tour and Tlaquepaque both for $20.00 U.S. person. You met the tour bus across the Street at the Lovers Park next to the St. Francisco Church.
I was dreading the hard beds that everyone mentioned but since we were on the go the whole time the, beds were not uncomfortable and since we request a room away from the street we had the best sleep we had in a long time. The Restuarant "El Rodeo" downstairs was great, $9.00 US for the buffets with a large variety of choices. The menu was also very well priced with a variety of choices. Should you need a menu in English request it and they will bring you one. There is a shuttle service through the hotel that is comperable with the taxis be sure to ask Mario to schedule it for you. Overall our stay at the Hotel Morales was better than we expected and we will stay there again when visiting GDL.

  • Liked — The five start qualiaty qith the three star price and they location
  • Disliked — no outside view since there was only a small window in the bathroom.
