“Best of the birrierias - Slow cooked lamb and pork stews.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2014

Directly giving onto a charming colonial plaza, this restaurant has authentic Mexican decor and serves two main dishes: pork and lamb stews that are seasoned and slow cooked i.e. "birrieria". Reasonably priced and fairly copious portions.

“Lived up to other reviews”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2013

Charming area of town (although a lot of construction currently). The kitchen was open and the restaurant small. Most patrons were Mexican with a few gringos thrown in, probably from TripAdvisor. We had the goat stew and pork Yucatan style. Food was delicious and the atmosphere memorable. Great find.

“AMAZING Braised Lamb and Goat Dishes!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

If you like lamb and mutton, you must go to this place. It lives up to its reputation. Try sitting at the new additional space next to the original at the plaza. The back patio is charming and quiet. It allows you to savor every bite. The fresh tortillas and house salsas are out of this world!

“A different experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2013

It's a bit off the tourist route, but worth searching out. Everyone you ask seems to know about it. Don't be confused by the name, it has nothing to do with beer. Birria is a Mexican stew. The specialty of the house is goat stew. I've never tasted such tender and tasty goat. If you've never tasted goat, this is a good time to start. The goat stew comes with a lot of gravy, with nothing to soak it up in, so ask for an extra serving of rice or potatoes. There are, of course, other menu items equally as delicious. Just opposite is another restaurant that looks classier., but in fact it is one and the same. On the other side of the square is "La Habana Vieja", a historic home painted bright yellow festooned with Cuban flags. Looks pretty cool for an evening of salsa.

“Food porn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

No seriously, the food here is delicious! I had the goat stew and it was beyond delicious. It was a bit on the pricier side for Mexico but well worth it! They serve you some frijoles while you re waiting with some tortilla chips, it was like 12 bucks for the food and soda. It was a nice ambiance as well, I will come back the time I'm in Guadalajara!
