I found this hotel on Expedia- it had a decent rating, decent reviews, and looked pretty nice from the outside. We arrived at the hotel and the lobby was pretty- covered in ferns and plants with several large bird cages scattered against the walls. We had to walk through the restaurant area to get to our room and were greeted with the smell, well for those of you who have travelled to Mexico...it smelled of Mexico- a mixture of bathroom cleaner and excrement. The room was large and clean, but by no means a high standard hotel. The toilet would barely flush and the towels were coarse (and stained). The beds were ok, despite the fact I was bitten several times by whatever bugs were there. Sleeping in wasn't an option. Our room was directly next to the restaurant and for those early birds that enjoy their breakfast we heard every clank of their forks and every word of their conversations, which took place right outside our window. Excuse me for ranting, but I want to let you know what you're getting yourself into. Anyways, the location of the hotel is ideal because it is close to the downtown tourist attractions, but you're an hour from Chapala and 25min from Tlaquepaque. There are several restaurants open early and late into the night for delious food, but parents please keep your children inside at night. The hotel is SURROUNDED by gay bars and nightclubs, as well as shady characters that lurk the small streets. I wasn't expecting a 5 star hotel, but I was hoping for more than a 2 star Motel 6.

Stayed here for 3 nights using the deal on the hotels website (stay 3 nights and get the 3rd night free), so it only ended up costing 400p per night which is very good value. Hotel is very cute both from the street and inside. We managed to get a quite room out the back (room 52). Didn't hear anything at all during the night or in the morning. Only complaint is the water smelt so you smelt a little after a shower, which i guess isnt the fault of the hotel.

We read the reviews, and collectively, they were significantly higher than the Hotel rating. The price was great so we took a chance, even though there were some concerns expressed in the reviews.

We were very pleased with our choice. Yes on a Friday or Saturday night the outside street is noisy. Ask for a room that faces one of the inner courtyards, or if you have a strre side view, open your balcony doors and enjoy watching the nightlife. We were given a room on an inner courtyard, left our courtyard doors open (2nd floor) at night and had no issue with noise. The room was larger than a traditional American hotel room.

The location was great. It is near the Cathedral and the Mercado, and easy walk to either. Cab service was available at all hours and cheap and negotiable. The gay bars across the street added some great people watching. We felt very safe even walking at night.

Banks, ATMs and money exchanges were all around the hotel. It is an older hotel, therefore the 10 ft. solid wood doors and 12 ft cielings. If you want a fancy resort hotel, do not go here. If you want to get a feel for the City at a great value, this is your place.
We were able to catch the tour bus to Tequial right outside of the hotel. We had a very good experience here.

If you are looking @ this place you're a budget minded traveler, and you would do well to reserve a room here. I can't believe that it doesn't get better reviews...the staff, cleanliness, location, and beds are awesome for hostel prices! FOR $30-$50 A NIGHT...MOTEL 6 HAS NOTHING ON THIS PLACE!My wife and I just stayed 3 nights and had a blast. We did other activites w/ the money we saved on lodging. Request a quite, or tranquilo, room....or take some ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

This is a good budget hotel- centrally located, great value with basic amenities & a nice restaurant. Also, we were able to find many people on the staff who speak fluent English- this is something of a rarity in Guadalajara. However, the best thing about the hotel is the friendliness of the staff- in particular- their restaurant manager- Merced Enrique. He went above & beyond to accomodate the requirements of our group- getting vegetarian food prepared specially for us, recommending local restaurants & New Years parties etc. He is extremely friendly & helpful and it was always a pleasure talking to him and getting his insights on the city. We would definitely return to the hotel because of him. What would have been a regular stay at a hotel, became special for us, thanks to Merced!
