“Orozco comes alive!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

I had seen some of Orozco’s murals in art history books and online and was looking forward to seeing them “for real”. So despite the fact that the museums were closed (as the previous poster warned) I went ahead and bought an admission ticket. And I was not disappointed! Its hard to describe, the best analogy I can give is that it’s like attending a live sporting event versus watching it on TV - there is just something about experiencing the artwork as opposed to just seeing it. Even if you are only mildly interested in Orozco, I would recommend the Cabanas. And the rest of the facility is quite nice, too: the old world architecture, the Moorish influences, etc. And the gift shop was probably the most sophisticated of all the ones I checked out during my sightseeing. This and the Expiatorio were my two favorite sights in Guadalajara.

“El Corazon de la Perla Tapatia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

This is truly the place in Guadalajara where you will leave your heart if you are an art aficionado. Starting with Jose Clemente Orozco's murals; finally, the world is paying attention and giving him the recognition that he truly deserved in life. The murals are breathtaking and part of the universal patrimony that beautifies what was once an orphanage. Spend the time to take the guided tour to learn about its unique history. It is located in Guadalajara's historic center and is within walking distance to other amazing, historical sites (La Rotonda de los Hombres Ilustres, Teatro Degollado, La Catedral, el museo, el Palacio de Gobierno, etc...). If you love history, it's a great way to go back in time - so traditional, so unique. The site is very well taken care of, it's clean, and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about its history. Admission was ridiculously inexpensive, regardless if there's a fee for taking pictures with your camera. Be sure to visit their gift shop and their museum.

“All Museum segments are currently closed.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

They let us buy tickets without explaining that all the museums were closed, apparently since mid Nov. Not sure how long it will last, but it was a rip off. All we could see were the corredors, two tiny rooms with a few photos, and a central area with some dreadful ceiling murals. The grotesque murals are dark (black, grey, off white) both in color (or lack of) and subject matter. Don't buy a ticket until you can verify that the museums are reopened. It was really disappointing for us!

“Interesting architecture in the heart of the centro historical area.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Make this building part of your walk around the incredible Centro Historical area of Guadalajara. There is so much beautiful architecture, many parks, monuments and things to see. Guadalajara is a city that makes you feel like you're in Europe.

“Great historic art museum!”

Lovely contemporary and modern art museum housed in a gorgeous old former hospital and orphanage. Had a great tour by a guide there named Ruben.
