“Fantastic hilltop city not far from Cuernavaca”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

Another great archaeological site well worth a day trip from Mexico City and environs. The buildings are nicely restored and the hilltop setting is impressive: you can see why the founders chose this important location overlooking the surrounding area. The museum is small and nicely organized.

“Excellent archaeological site!”

The archeological site is great, there's an awesome view and a very informative museum. In spring it can be too hot, so try and go early in the morning.

“2+ enjoyable hours of history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

Our tour guide Angel Flores drove us here at our request. Had to pay $57 pesos/ea and another $400 for a guide. Twice what I was expecting, but in the end we were satisfied. Our guide, Hugo spoke English well and knew lots of cultural history. (He studied history and archeology in the States). He answered all of our many questions and we did not feel rushed through the tour.

They now have some lighting in the observatory, but there isn't that much to see there. There are enough ruins to climb up to work up a sweat, but the view from the top is spectacular. Learned that the human sacrifices were not slaves, but the priests themselves would sacrifice their organs or lives.

We chose this over tehuacalco thinking there was more to see. I can't tell you how they compare, but we really enjoyed our time here. FYIW Hugo said that tour guides are not paid a salary but work strictly as "work for hire" for visitors. I would've been disappointed to be w/o an English-speaking guide who knows the ruins well. There may be better guides but Hugo exceeded my expectations. You can find him at goxochicalcotours.com.

“Unique place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

It's a very good place to take your children. Because they need to learn some history and, guess what? Xochicalco is Mexican history baby. No toys, no TV, no "viva la vida loca". This is authentic, and it's Da Bomb.
