“beautiful, relaxing yet expensive.”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

I was delighted to hear we were staying at the Camino Real Sumiya for a weekend. I`vé been there before to try the delicious sunday brunch so I expected nothing but the best at my stay. And almost that´s what i got. The rooms are nice and comfy with bath and body works amenities, tiny water bottles (which could be larger), slippers and a robe (yes, just one robe). The terrace is the size of a small bathtub so it could be unexisting but the view from the rooms is amazing. Beacuse it is on a downhilll you have almost like a small forest in front of your eyes. The AC works wondesr for the humid and hot climate and also to scare away the wandering mosquitos that surround the property.

The architecture is amazing. Its seems as if you were in Japan with pagoda rooftops on the lobby and restaurants. It is very well accomplished with small zen gardens and tiny rivers crossing all around the hotel. The pools are ok and well mantained and the only thing I would change frankly would be the food and beverage prices. Not at the fancy restaurant which is totally justified (the price) because its not a tourist trap but a truly good place to dine but on the snacks, club sandwiches and stuff you end up paying a lot of money considering the night rate is at a high price. They could compensate by dropping food prices a bit.

Staff´s attitude exceeded my expectations and they really make you feel like a VIP guest all the time.

Beautiful. Realaxing.

Room Tip: I dont´really know other rooms but mine was the standars one and was really nice. oh! and the hair...

The facilities have always been an added value of this property, so keeping it in point of excellence should be a every day requirement. The common areas are very nice, the service good and the food very good, but experience in the rooms is lagging a bit far. The bathrooms are not 100% clean, the beds are not as good as in other Camino Real hotels, the furniture/TV are very old, the air conditioning has its details and the internet is lousy! Good place for couples, as a wedding scale while attending a party in Cuernavaca, but definitely not optimal for business trips or working groups.

Room Tip: Get a room in a higher floor.... if not say hello to spider, snalis, ants, etc, etc....

The hotel grounds are really amazing, green everywhere and Japanese-design theme are beautiful.
I would expect more for the buck, since they charge you for WiFi and the breakfast buffet is super expensive!
Service is really good! Taxi service is cheap and good, too.

Room Tip: Stay 3 nights and save... its a good deal for a weekend escape, or even for going to a wedding in Cu...

I recently visited Cuernavaca for business and this hotel was selected as a nice, safe choice by my co-workers. The hotel is quite impressive when pulling up, with authentic Japanese architecture and beautiful grounds. The resort is spread out over a large area with about 4 buildings of rooms, 2 restaurants, a bar, a theater, and banquet rooms. As I mentioned the grounds are very beautiful with lush landscaping, waterfalls, ponds, etc.

This sets your expectation very high for the room, and what a let down! It is in bad need of a re-model. Very dated decor. They also make you pay for wifi and get a new wifi code each day which is ridiculous for a resort like this. There was a strong odor outside the rooms coming from what seemed like a septic field much too close to the building. You couldn't smell it in the room though. The bed was hard as a rock, but you get used to it. The room was clean, and housekeeping does a great job.

Overall the staff was friendly and most spoke English. We ate at the restaurant every day for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast buffet is excellent, and although the dinner menu is a bit limited the food was good. The waiters were a bit confused when asked to split the check, but not a big deal. I'll probably stay here again if visiting for work, but by U.S. or European standards, this hotel is just average.

Room Tip: Noisy by the pool during the day.

This hotel is lacking . Fortunately there are alternatives in Cuernavaca area .
My main gripes are , rooms are average not up to the prices charged . WiFi is charged at 10 dollars . I can't believe that the management is so backward . When I complained at the reception the recepcionist nor duty manager where bothered . Personally these details in a 200 dollar plus hotel are not acceptable . Even a motel , restaurant or coffee shop give free Wi Fi these days .
For that I will not go back . On the good side , its a great setting , good restaurant and breakfast , the main public areas are beautifull , shame the arquitect for the rooms did not go with the theme and constructed what looks like student accomodation.

Enjoyed the different pools of this hotel many times. Breakfast was great always with fresh fruit and juices. Dinner choices were also pleasant. It was hard to get used to sleeping with all the chirp noises and wilderness noises around the hotel. I stayed here May/June/July 2010.

I went there for a business retreat. The overall experience was very good. The hotel is a japanese gem hidden in Cuernavaca. The atmosphere is quiet relaxing. The gardens, the wood bridges, all the japanese architecture. They have a great breakfast buffet. The lunch and dinner were also very good.
The rooms were stuck a little bit in the 80's. Old tv's, old furniture. I think they have to spend some money and renew on that stuff.
