We just got back from a family reunion at Brisas del Mar. It was FABULOUS! Without exception, every member of our family (children, teenagers, adults and seniors) had a great time. One said, "On a scale of 1 to 10, this was an 11!"
Santiago and the rest of the staff were amazingly helpful. Everybody loved their rooms, but we highly recommend Room 107 (if you don't need a kitchinette) or Room 112 (if you want a kitchen). From the thick, brightly-colored pool towels to the comfortable beds, we loved this hotel and will DEFINITELY RETURN!
The hotel restaurant is good, but pricey. There are many other great options. Just down the hill we had breakfast at "La Casa Cafe" and down the beach walkway we enjoyed other restaurants in Zihuatanejo. For a Mexican family fish and seafood experience, we recommend "El Gabo".
Thanks to the great reviews that helped us find this treasure! Regarding previous negative reviews - we experienced no construction and loved the beach. There are many stairs, but there are handrails along each.
If you like quaint, quiet, colorful and comfortable - STAY HERE!

We just got back from our trip to Zihautanejo. We stayed at Brisas Del Mar and loved it. It is in a great location (short walk to shops/restaurants but on a quieter beach). We didn't want to leave!

If you do end up staying here, we found a WONDERFUL restaurant that is very close. We ate breakfast there almost every day. It is called Manlio's K-Fe. We had freshly squeezed orange juice and biscuits with ham and cheese and pineapple all for $5.00 dollars. For both of us! The people were so friendly and nice. We also had lunch there once and it was good too. They have Nutella crepes, who could ask for more! :)

My wife and stayed at this hotel last July for 5 days. After 1 day we began searching for other hotels. After much deliberation we decided to stay and tough it out. To begin with this hotel is on the wrong beach!! It is located on the public beach in Zihuat -- which is nothing like La Playa Ropa -- dirty, busy and simply not what we expected. Second, the hotel was under constant construction throughout our stay. While discussing the problems of the hotel with other guests at the pool, we learned that other guests had been offered a discount because of the construction. After much debating with the front office staff, they finally offered us a similar discount. Unfortunate service. Other than this interaction, the service was adequate. Restaurant was fair. If you are looking for a decent Mexican hotel, with a rustic feel, on the wrong beach -- this is your place. If you want a beautiful vacation with all Zihuat has to offer, stay elsewhere.

We booked our trip based on the really positive reviews that we had read on this site. The only concerns were the beach that the hotel sits on and the "many stairs" that lead from the hotel to the beach. Well. we were completely blown away. For starters, the Hotel Brisas Del Mar has this wonderful rustic elegance that makes it the best hotel on Playa Madera - and really goes head to head with the higher priced resorts on Playa La Ropa. At a fraction of the cost, one finds upscale simplicity along with a wonderful intimacy. Despite the hotel being fully booked for a wedding, it never felt crowded or even full. The many staff members tend to your every need at the beach and at the Bistro Del Mar, the hotel's wonderful restaurant. And let's not overlook the rooms. For starters, nothing beats the fact that every suite has a balcony overlooking the bay. What can be better than taking in the ocean view from the hammock or chaise lounge chairs? Otherwise, the rooms are air-conditioned and very clean. As for the stairs, we were prepared to make this a low-point in the trip until we realized that they were nothing! Whoever complained about the stairs has made a gross overstatement. Anyway, nothing tops the hotel's nightly Happy Hour! Hosted by the master mixologist Frederico, this nightly ritual in unparalleled. For starters, Frederico's warm personality and incredible bartending skills make this happy hour a draw for all hotel guests.

Outside of the hotel, exploring Zihuat could not be easier. We loved the clean and safe beach walkway that stretched from the hotel to town. Even after dark, it is a great way to town - just beware of locals there making out :-) Once there, food can be found at all levels from the streetside taco to an elegant sit-down meal. The best thing to do is explore, and do not be afraid to take chances. Favorite authentic mexican restaurant: Tamales y Atoles (aka La Casa Del Pozole Guerrerense) where you have to try the Pozole. Best Lunch: Chicken tacos at MJ & Richies on the beach near the hotel. Best Splurge: Casa Que Canta. We also enjoyed breakfast at the hotel (since we were only there for 3 days we didnt want to venture out in the a.m.) Great eggs and tropical zihuatanejo juice.

Enyoy!

This place is absolutely amazing. We actaully got married there in May and had about 50 guests. Lorena and her staff handled everything and it turn out beautiful and was completely stress free. My mother was actually worried because I wasn't! The hotel itself is GREAT, the rooms are nice and clean and an amazing deal!! I can't say enough about how helpful and nice the staff is, they gave great restuarant suggestions and where there for anything we needed. You really feel like you are in authenic Mexico not touristland like some big hotel chains. The town of Zihua is just a short walk (5minute) down a beautiful seaside path and has so many great places to shop, eat and party! If you are looking for a fun relaxing REAL mexican vacation, this is the place for you!

We had a FABULOUS wedding at Hotel Brisas del Mar! All 40 of our guests loved it and are looking forward to a reunion. Lorena Negrete was such a wonderful wedding coordinator and person to work with. She arranged flowers, hair, music, rehearsal dinner (at Rossy's--it's delicious!!!), photographer, and MUCH more. We couldn't say enough good things about the hotel. The service was amazing and so friendly. The hotel prices are very reasonable and the rooms are so great. We checked out a lot of the rooms that our guests were staying in and unless you really want a kitchen (we didn't use ours), I'd suggest Room 107, a Master Suite. The rooms are huge and come with a mini fridge, gigantic bathrooms, couches, some have hot tubs, all have ocean views and balconies. You can't go wrong with any room in the place.

Some people complained about the stairs on this website, but they didn't bother us at all. Most of us just aren't used to walking these days. Our grandparents came and we put them on the lower of the floors, but they seemed to get along fine--they are troopers though=).

The restaurant, Bistro del Mar, did our wedding reception and it was great!!! The food was good, but the service was what sold us. They never failed to pull out our chairs, put the napkins on our laps, or attend to every question or need. Our family and friends actually went and tipped them extra before we left. You must try the mango tacos and the Mexican coffee (which they set on fire). They also have an addicting vanilla cream sauce which you won't get enough of.

As a plus for those who don't speak Spanish--they always have someone who speaks English available. Also, we loved Madera Beach because it was close to town and more quiet. La Ropa is also nice and has more going on, but our group felt closer being able to hang out together without more than a few locals.

We wandered in one morning having made a serious mistake at a true flop just up the hill. The Brisas del Mar not only cost a tad less but was great--nice staff in particular and wonderful views of the bay, private beach area, etc. The hotel is a five minute, $2 cab ride to town (or 15 minute walk along a pathway that follows the water's edge). Only disappointment: an excursion we took to a nearby island for snorkeling, and booked in the lobby, was a bit of a rip off. Would definitely go back to this hotel.
