The place is charming. We spend 3 nights there with some friends. I did move to another room to get a jacuzzi, the room in the top have a beautiful sight!!
I recommend to the hotel to improve the signs to get to there, there no signs by the area. Before was Brisas now is Aura del mar... but even locals get confuse. The hotel is lovely, with a lot of stairs, but you do not get too tired, but for sure it is not recommended for families with babies or those who need wheelchair. I feel safe! thank God no too many street vendors!! and the service in general is good. The Restaurant by the beach is expensive. Just buy stuff in the little store in front of the hotel. Service of the restaurant not always good, I guess it depends on the waiter or if you are or you are not foreign?!!?! Wireless doesn´t work very well in all the rooms. But they have a small "business center".
The beach is OK, although I prefer LA ROPA beach (cleaner but crowder) You need to drive or walk for 30 minutes to get from the Madera beach to la ROPA, there is no direct access.

Room Tip: Top rooms, beautiful sight

Aura del Mar Hotel
Traveled to Zihuatanejo for our friends’ wedding the second week of February, 2013. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay (2/7-2/11). This was our first trip to Zihua and we were not disappointed. We booked our King suite room (Mazatlan room) several months in advance due to the hotel being the location and main residence for wedding attendees. We arranged our airport arrival transfer through the hotel and departure transfer we just grabbed a taxi. The differences were minimal - similar cars (I believe one was a Nissan Altima and the cab was a smaller Nissan). I would say the only difference is AC and bottled water for the transfer arranged via the hotel. The lobby is immediately off the street and easily accessible. From there, a staff member will take your bags to the room after you've checked in. This is a plus considering the number of stairs you'll be taking to your room. Our room was fairly close to the lobby and still at least 4 flights away. I would highly recommend exchanging $ for pesos before you arrive at the hotel. Tipping the driver and staff who carried our bags to the room with pesos seemed much appreciated. There are ATMs at the zihua airport, or there are usually exchange kiosks at you departure airport. We exchanged at Houston (ICH) and I believe it was 1% less (11% vs 12%) than the atm rate in MX. There is also a mini mart immediately across from the hotel that only takes pesos. This mart has probably anything you might need during your stay. We stocked up on rum, soda, limes, water etc. for drinks and snacks on our balcony. Our room was spotless and huge - dining table with 4 chairs, king bed with large dresser, 2 sofas in the sunken living area (this is between the bed and the patio), patio with 2 lounge chairs, a small table and 2 deck chairs. There was also a jetted tub, although we didn't use it. The view is amazing! We faced the bay and could see 180 degrees. There is a coffee maker and coffee (restocked daily), mugs and glasses for drinking, mini fridge with water (restocked daily, but we found ourselves buying additional at the mini mart). The bathroom has a hairdryer, iron, closet and the usual shampoo, conditioner soap and lotion. The stairs aren't great, but considering how great the hotel is as a whole, they are easily overlooked. The pool is very nice, seemed a decent size for the number of guests. The only thing I would point out is that there isn't a ladder or steps to get out. I can see how this could be an issue for some - particularly after a few margaritas. The hotel restaurant is ok, I would recommend sticking with guacamole, salsa, tacos and chips. I would definitely venture out for lunch and dinner. Carmelita’s in town is a MUST. Overall the hotel setting is amazing - built into the hillside and directly on the beach. It is a 15-20 minute walk to town/marina, definitely worth exploring. With regard to the beach, I must say I've experienced better. That being said, my last beach vacation was in the Caribbean, so I'm not sure it is a fair comparison. It is definitely safely swimmable, which is more than I can say for Cabo. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel. For the price, I don't think you can beat it. Excellent staff, top notch rooms, well located and a truly authentic experience. We hope to return in the near future!

Definetly place to stay and return back, great for couples, oldies, kids, not gateway for parties or for overnight sleep, too good to leave place during the day, if u are for night life and fun choose another cheaper place for stay instead...
Fantastic in one word...

Wow. We have traveled to Mexico several times and stayed at condo rentals, all-inclusive resorts, and hotels. The Aura del Mar Hotel is by far our favorite place to stay in Mexico. We've been telling everyone about our vacation.
First, the location. You can't beat it. It's right at the beach and every room has a fabulous view of the bay with all the fishing boats going by. Second, the hotel is very clean. The staff work very hard to make sure the room is clean and tidy each day. The cleanest place we've stayed at in Mexico. Third, the awesome restaurant. the food is fantastic (especially the afternoon pizza) and the servers are very attentive. Fourth, you can just walk along the beach to the town center for shopping, eating or just exploring Mexico. We could go on and on about this great hotel. Oh, almost forgot, the pool is fabulous as well and never over-crowded.

The only problem is that if someone has limited mobility, the stairs may be an issue. We didn't have a problem at all and we are not young and in-shape. There were people there with kids and there were much older people, etc but nobody seemed to have any problem with the stairs.

Room Tip: all the rooms have great ocean views. the hotel offers a variety of sizes of rooms

We just returned to Zihuatanejo for the fifth time, once again staying at the delightful Aura Del Mar (for many years called Brisas Del Mar, name change courtesy of a lawsuit by the Brisas hotel chain). Aura Del Mar is definitely NOT a chain hotel; it is a unique, lovely old building, covered in greenery, with a variety of comfortable rooms and suites, all with private terraces facing beautiful Zihuatanejo Bay. The rooms and hallways are full of charming folk art, the beds are large and comfortable, and the staff are uniformly friendly, helpful, and charming, from the maids to the manager. The location is ideal: on lively and unpretentious Madera Beach, a block from Adelita Street with its interesting collection of restaurants, and a short walk into the small, lively town center.

Zihuatanejo is next to Ixtapa, a government-planned tourist resort, which is large and full of high-rise hotels, chain restaurants, and noisy bars, but the geography is such that Ixtapa cannot even be seen from the hotel (a great advantage, let me assure you).

There are many things to do within walking distance, and there is a concierge to help with more ambitious excursions, but we rarely feel the need to do more than lounge about in our room, at the lovely pool, or under the hotel's private palapas on the beach. If we feel more lively, the ocean is perfect for splashing in the waves, and there is a water slide in the pool!

Blissful relaxation amid beauty and charm, at reasonable prices. Of course we'll be back again!

Thank you so much again to Janet, Miguel, Fabian, Francisco, Jacqueline, Alexander, Apollonia, Cecelia-- and Martin, who is a waiter extraordinaire at the hotel's beachside restaurant. Hotel Aura Del Mar is the greatest!
