We stumbled into Ziwa early in the morning after taking a bus all night and not really sleeping. We were not sure where we were going to stay. After searching from an internet cafe, we decided to give Villa Carolina a shot. We showed up on their doorstep and were greeted by an accommodating Carolina. Too tired to fully soak in our surroundings, we took a room, expecting to stay one night.

By the time we took a shower and rested a bit we could see that Carolina's was someplace very special. For one thing, the room was very nice and kept impeccably clean. There were nice touches like hibiscus flowers laid out on our always fresh towels. There is a kitchen if you want to do your own cooking, but with such great, inexpensive room service and great restaurants nearby, there's really no need. The gardiner is meticulous and keeps the pool very, VERY clean.

In fact, the pool was our favorite part of our stay at Carolinas. It was so beautiful, so clean, and the water was always the perfect temperature. We stayed in room 3, right next to the pool with a little porch screened off by plants and a lovely little outside dining area where we had our breakfast (the french toast is great!). It is such a small place, and felt very private, even with the few other guests. Also, because we were right next to the pool, it felt like an extension of our little "apartment."

We paid $155 a night. There are more expensive rooms upstairs with their own jacuzzi, but we did not feel like we needed more than we had, especially with the pool right outside our door. Also, the beach (Playa Ropa) is a very short walk- only one block, and I did not feel like we needed to be any closer. It was quiet and very peaceful. A cab to the center of Ziwa is only about $3. After going in for a meal or to wander and experiencing all of the activity and bustle of town, it was a relief to come home to the tranquility of Villa Carolina.

So the moral of our story is that we only intended to stay one night and then move on, but then every day we were so comfortable we decided to stay another night. We stayed four nights total.

It turned out to be one of the nicest places we stayed in Mexico, and a very good value for the relatively inexpensive rate. We would definitely return next time.

II would like to thank Tim, Carolina, Miguel and the entire staff of Villa Carolina for their exceptional service during our recent vacation. My son and I presented some unique problems for the staff and they were always most helpful. The best way to explain it is that you feel like part of their family. They hotel is beautiful and perfectly maintained. I cannot say enough about this hotel. We have been to many resorts in Mexico and have never a more rewarding hotel experiance.

We recently spent 10 days at Villa Carolina in Zihuatanejo, and I have nothing but praise for this lovely hotel. First, the staff is gracious, professional and friendly. The moment we arrived, Miguel and Jose ran to greet us with enthusiasm. I knew that we had chosen the perfect place to spend a vacation. All of the men and women who work at Villa Carolina were wonderful, and I was both impressed and embarrased by how hard they work--all day long. Miguel was always available to answer questions and provide suggestions, and I appreciated his many recommendations.

Our garden suite was beautiful! The suite was immacuate, spacious (about the size of two standard hotel rooms) and peaceful. The room is tastefully decorated with interesting arts and crafts, which made it feel like a home rather than a hotel room. The patio area right outside the suite is like having an extra room because it is enclosed by large plants which provided just the right amount of privacy. The patio area had lawn chairs and a dining room table, so we were able to enjoy numerous breakfasts and lunches outdoors.

Villa Carolina is only a 2-minute walk to the beach, and I was actually grateful not to be on the ocean. Rather, it felt like a peaceful oasis from the crowds. The atmosphere of Villa Carolina is very intimate and relaxing, a true home away from home. At night we could still hear the water, so it was the best of both worlds. Like most vacations, it was hard to leave.

I completely recommend this hotel! You will not be disappointed!

This is indeed a beautiful place and we have some great things to say about it. We stayed in the master suite and it was beautiful and immaculate. It was quite noisy at times, as some others mentioned; cars passing, car alarms going off for long periods of time. I would say it was a five star hotel with two star service. There was nothing special about the service or how you were treated there. Your convenience was not priority. The front door was locked most of the time and you did not get a key to that, but instead had to take the back entrance, up and down a lot of stairs if you were staying in a master suite. The staff was not knowledgable about the area, struggled to find a map for me, did not know if there was a bus to the airport. The owner did not speak Spanish and made very little effort to speak Spanish. She was living in her own world...not Mexico. If you want a gringo experience of Mexico, this could be your place, but otherwise I would skip Villa Carolina. It was definitely not worth the money.
