“Great staff and clean rooms”
Reviewed December 31, 2007

This is a great little B&B if you are looking for friendly staff, clean rooms and a convenient location to Playa La Ropa. The staff did not speak English but were very patient with my limited Spanish. If you are by the pool in the afternoon they bring out fresh vegetables and bottled water to munch on. One of the members of my party was fighting a cold and stayed in to rest and they brought hot tea and apple slices to our room. The only complaint I had is the bed was very firm. I would have liked a little more give.

My mom and I just returned from a four-night stay at Casa Buenaventura. Since it was down time in Zihua, we had the whole hotel to ourselves! This is a very small, intimate little privately-owned hotel...the owner does not speak any English! We were in Zihua to plan my wedding in October, and this was the PERFECT hotel to stay and get all of our goals accomplished. The rooms are spacious, well air-conditioned, and clean. Every morning when we came down stairs, the owner had fresh fruit, yogurt, and granola waiting for us before we arrived! You do have a view of the sea, with only about a 1/4 mile walk. It is not the place to go to "see and be seen," nor to meet people, but it is lovely and a great place to stay with a partner. Hope you enjoy! Thanks again Francisco!! (our wedding coordinator!)

My husband and I just returned from our 5 night stay at Casa Buenaventura. The rooms and site are just as pictured on their website: clean, bright, and airy. The rooms were large with 2 sections: (1) the bed with plenty of space to spread your clothes out, and; (2) a sitting area with 2 built-in couches, a coffee table, a desk, and a mini fridge. In addition the bathroom was large and the balcony was comfortable and had an amazing view. We woke up every morning to the sky and tranquil sea.

Breakfast was included in the price (we paid a little over $100/night at high season) - fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea, and pastries. They would prepare eggs for you as well if asked a day in advance (we had eggs one morning and they were delicious, served with tortillas, beans, and scrambled with veggies). Water was provided daily and when asked.

We were never in need of hot water, air conditioning, ceiling fans, or a place to relax. The only comforts we missed was a dresser and a tub. But there was more than enough space by the beds to lay out our clothes and a large pool to soak in. A bathtub would have been nice on our last night as we both had stomach aches and wanted to stretch in hot water and nurse our stomache aches. Overall these 2 things are so minor that it didn't stop me from rating the casa as excellent.

The pool was a blessing on hot afternoons, the beach was a short walk away (downhill on the way to the beach, uphill on the way back to the casa). The walk is nominal if you're okay to walk about 2 or 3 minutes uphill. We stayed at the pool/courtyard during 2 afternoons to cool off from the mornings activities, there was never anyone else in the pool with us. We felt like we were the only ones there. The only time we saw other people was at morning and even then there weren't more than 2 other people joining us.

The only addition I would like to see, which is probably improbable for this small place, is a pool service. At least a limited one so that we could enjoy a cervaza, margarita, or limonada while basking in the courtyard. As it turned out we purchased beer, tequila and a lemon drink and kept is in our room mini fridge to serve ourselves when desired. So there were no problems not having the pool service but it would have been nice nonetheless. There are power lines that run next to the casa and the view from the courtyard/lounge chairs has a power line running through it but that's only remarkable because the views from the rooms spoiled us.

There is no safe in the room but there were never any problems keeping our valuables, passport, and money in the room. There are no phones, televisions, or radio in the room. We brought our palm pilot to place music on which was perfect for us.

La Ropa was cheap to travel to and from - 50 cents/person on the bus (which is about 3 yards from the front door) and $3 in a taxi to downtown. There was a little noise from the road but never enough to bother us. The bus stops running at 6:30pm in La Ropa. We probably spent less than $10/day traveling (total for the 2 of us).

Utlimately, we felt safe, relaxed, and well cared for in a peaceful setting. We were extremely happy at Casa Buenaventura and happily recommend it.

I almost hate to give away my secret hideaway, but I loved Casa Buenaventura and can’t wait to return. Located in the center of Playa La Ropa, it is a short walk from the beach. The proprietor Laura is a warm, gracious hostess and sees to all of your needs. The casa is accented with her artwork so be sure to check out the incredible hand painted nichos she creates.

From your room, warm tropical breezes delight you as you view Zihuatanejo Bay and the white sand beach lined with coconut palms. All of the rooms are spacious and clean and feature the most comfortable beds and pillows I have ever encountered in Mexico. The rooms are set back from the street, so except for the sound of the waves on Playa La Ropa, it is peaceful and quiet.

And everything about Casa Buenaventura is casual and stress free—from making the reservations, to waking up to a freshly made breakfast from their kitchen in the morning. You won’t have any concerns except for which spot to pick on the beach, or which restaurant to dine in. Or if you choose, you can spend the day lounging around the inviting pool at Casa Buenaventura.

The small, intimate size of this romantic hotel would make the ideal location for wedding accommodations because of the close proximity to the restaurant La Perla, which specializes in wedding events at their beachfront location. But please don’t tell anyone—I want to keep Casa Buenaventura all to myself.

We stayed 5 nights in Laura's lovely B & B. Good location on the main road through the La Ropa part of Zihuatanejo, so one could catch a bus or a taxi from the front door. The rooms were very large, sparkling clean and had their own private patio with a great view. No phones, no TV....just what we wanted. Striking views from your room or the swimming pool patio. Tasty breakfasts. Also had parking for our car.

Breakfast was wonderful with a selection of tea, coffee, fruit, pastries, eggs, and toast. We had our daughter with us and felt the oversize room was a big plus with 2 queen size beds, a large lounge area adjoining our private patio. Highly recommend.

Amenities - Large pool towels, book collection, beautiful artwork, great views, extra large rooms, AC, hammocks, nice size pool, clean bathroom with shower, refrigerator in each room, nice lounging area in room, private patios, parking spaces for 5 cars, relaxed quiet atmosphere with a charming, helpful owner.

I can not say enough good things about our visit to Casa Buenaventura. This was our first visit to Zihuatanejo and we had no idea what to expect. We were greeted by the staff and shown to our room (#1), it was just perfect. Super clean and spacious with a lovely patio looking out onto La Ropa beach. This hotel is a 5 minute walk from the beach but it has one of the best views!! We sat on the pool terrace every night watching the sunset. On the days that we wanted to go exploring we never waited more than 5 minutes out front for a taxi. The fare into downtown Zihua is $2.50 US. If you prefer to spend your day on the terrace overlooking the beach you have a wonderful pool with chaise lounges and umbrellas. Laura (the owner) made us feel like welcome guests in her home. We were provided with breakfast every morning. Steaming coffee, toast, yogurt, and the freshest fruits. In your room you will not find a TV or a phone but you will find a fridge so feel free to bring back some beverages in case you get too hot sitting at the pool. All in all the value of this hotel coupled with the incredible hospitality make it one of the best kept secrets in La Ropa.
