“Master of the Master Divers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2013

I was PADI certified about 20 years ago. I went on a few dives and had a really bad experience. Living in AZ (no ocean) I just let the sport go to pursue others. A little over a year ago my current husband & I got SSI certified & planned to dive on a cruise. Each port of call was closed for divers, snorkelers & fishing due to weather. I was injured in a fluke accident & never used my skills. I felt I needed a refresher before going diving again. Mero diving to the rescue.

I told you all of the above to say this. I've worked with 3 highly experienced and skilled dive masters but Antony Lara, my Mero dive master, was the best by far! He went over what I thought I'd forgotten and helped me understand the equipment, what I needed to do and instilled a level of confidence through his patient instruction which made my dive the following day a total success.

I'm no dummy, I do well in classes, I have a masters degree. However, I'm neither mechanical nor technological so I was a somewhat insecure before my refresher course. I practiced almost 3 hours in a pool & got to scuba there until I was 100% confident and secure in my ability so that even when I got water in my mask & snorted it up my nose at 30 feet I didn't panic, calmly resolved the problem even though I had swallowed some water. The training I received from my Mero dive master gave me the confidence to know I could resolve it so no need to panic.

Anyone can be a good dive master with an experienced, confident, fearless diver. The ability to work with someone who has had prior issues, lacks confidence and is 61 years old (did I forget to mention that?) is the mark of a true professional and a phenomenal teacher. I can't say enough about Antony Lara and his genuine desire to make me a successful diver. An owner will always do a good job, but this owner makes sure you get the same level of service and professionalism from every member of his team.

I come to Ixtapa every year at least 2 weeks a year and will use Mero on every trip. The dive went so well today that I'm going again on Fri and three more days next week. I'm not wealthy, I'm a retired public servant but their prices are reasonable and you get true value for your dollar. You can pay more or you may find a way to pay less but SAFETY is invaluable.

In case you haven't picked up by now, I highly recommend this company. :)

“A Great Divemaster and Guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2011

I went diving with Mero Divers and was impressed by the professionalism of Frederic Bouchet (owner). Ixtapa is not known for its diving but I have been diving for close to 30 years I always try to dive at the location I am visiting. His boat was a typical panga(with a cover) with a captain. He gave a good predive briefing and explained what I would see below. Our dives were nice but there was allot of surge and current at the locations we did. The marine life was much better than I expected - school of 30 to 40 bat rays, 3 eagle rays and a good amount of fish (large and small), octopus, moray eels etc. He did water, soda and cookies on board for the surface interval between dives. A plus to the day was a whale broken the surface about 30 yards from the boat during our SI. His English is very good (he is French) and a fun person.
He also does snorkling and kayak tours.
