“Yum!!!”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

El Mangler is closed Wednesdays, but has what we found to be the BEST food and the best VALUE around. The 27 Tuna is to die for and the vegies done to perfection. Their house salad feeds two and is full of wonderful surprises. No view, except for the caimans that inhabit the adjacent waters. Friendly waiters and nicely priced wine in a clean and romantic jungle setting. Cash only as of this writing.

“Go for the surroundings...not the food!”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

Great place to seek out for a beer and some chips and salsa to watch the iguanas and crocs nearby, but don't believe the reviews of the legendary 27 Spice Tuna. A ghastly sweet mess. I asked for grilled tuna in my fish tacos (willing to pay extra) but was told that wasn't possible because they were mahi mahi that was already portioned but that there would be some tuna in it. Huh? Okay thought I. What arrived was deidedly not grilled, and I'm not sure what the fish was - consistency of tuna salad (or cat food), in fact one of the resident cats showed up immediately beside me while I took my first and last bite. Coincidence? I think it was ground up fish scraps, truly. The guacamole was okay and the waiter was sweet.

“Crocs, Red Wine, Shrimp Salad, Ahi”

Accommodated large group, great ambiance- having to cross bridge where crocs live! Food was great, drinks and staff were great! Location is near the end of La Ropa toward Las Gatos. Easy walk from Catalina.

“Beautiful setting and great food”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

El Manglar is a hidden gem. Even though you can access it from La Ropa beach, it is set back and you have to cross a little bridge. The restaurant is next to the canal, where the crocodiles live. The trees have iguanas, and the waiters will tear up tortillas and lettuce to feed them so you can take photos. They have a diverse menu, including really good sandwiches and hamburgers. It is so beautiful and peaceful, you feel like you are in a secluded resort. Highly recommend this place.

“The Reviews are TRUE!”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

A popular place! Great guys & great food. Cerveza & seafood stuffed avocado were fabulous! Absolutely delicious! The 27-Spiced tuna-ya gotta try! just looking at the serving was mouthwatering! the seafood pasta was ok, but I'm not a big fan of octopus/squid or whatever-toooo much but it was served piping hot.Dessert-coconut ice cream-delicious! if you don't like your meal-there's always the crocodile-yes, he was resting near the shore/gangplank walkway in from the ocean! a great evening, a great meal, & busy! People kept arriving & talking about the food & the experience. When in Zihua, you have got to go! we will next year when we return!!
