Using only first quality ingredients, he creates special dishes that are available nowhere else in town. Israel is widely known for his Thai creations, but he lavishes the same attention and care on his Mexican and Italian offerings. His attentive, bi-lingual floor staff, amazing food, and full bar will make any evening at El Murmullo one to remember.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

I'll start with the positive. Service was good and the chef was friendly. Small, but good ambiance. However, it is not a cheap place to eat by any means and for the prices, we were very disappointed with the quality and portions. I was really excited about eating here after all the great reviews. Unfortunately, very few in our party were happy with their meal. Expect very small portions, including the expensive drinks. $60 pesos for pina coladas and margaritas. Tasty, but small in size. The Italian meals had the smallest portions and were around average tasting. Not at all worth the prices. The chicken parmesan was dry and nothing to write home about. It included a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables. The side of mashed potatoes for one plate was about 1/4 cup in size, with maybe 1/4-1/3 cup of vegetables. This cost around $120 pesos. Their alfredo was something they put their own twist on. For me, it wasn't what I would call "alfredo". Not quite the taste I was looking for and the portion was very disappointing for the price. But, that is a personal preference. The Pad Thai was the biggest disappointment. That is one of our most favorite foods. The portion was a lot better than the Italian dishes, but once we tasted it, again, disappointment. The noodles were undercooked and hard to chew (not al dente) and the flavor was very weak. It also lacked the proper balance of sweet, salty, sour and spicy. We were disappointed and especially so when we received the bill. For our table of five, no appetizers, only a meal each and a drink, we are looking at around $1000 pesos. We barely had enough food to satisfy us. If the portions were bigger and the food tastier, we wouldn't have complained. We are very sad to say we will not be going back, especially since we are such big fans of Thai food.

“Yummy!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013

In San Francisco we consider ourselves experts at cuisine, particularly Asian, and El Murmullo more than stands up to the test. A great sense of flavor and texture combinations combined with hand picked fresh ingredients makes Israel a great chef, and his charisma is endless. His menu is as good as the 4 and 5 star restaurants scattered around the area but with a price tag that is shockingly low. It can get pretty loud in it's El Centro location, so we suggest arriving early. Enjoy!

“Authentic Pad Thai! Nice Setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

Hola! Wifey and I were sick of Mexican after 10 nights in Z. Don't get me wrong, the Mexican cuisine has been fantastic all throught Zihua. We were just looking for something a lil different. The place is semi easy to find, close to the basketball courts and the outdoor shopping mall area. The service was very very good if not flat out great as most places have been in Zihua. They catered to our every need. Asked us if we needed more ice, more rice, anything! The first dish they served us was the Pad Thai. Ahhhhh! We were refreshed when we smelled the familiar aromas we get from our hometown Thai restaurants. We tasted, and hi fived! We scored some amazing Pad Thai in the middle of Mexico! I am not a pad thai person at home. I opt for curries and tom kha soup. We also ordered one of the chicken curry dishes. They had 3 to choose from. Yellow(mild), red (sweet), and green (spicy). I ordered the red hoping it would be like a Panang or a trad. red curry. It was more like a chicken with gravy. Lol. Not our fav dish of the evening. It wasn't at all bad tho. And the presentation was beautiful, with fresh string beans standing up in the darling curry bowl. We also had a chicken satay which was different. It wasn't bad, just again, not what we were used to in US. Overall, we were just sooo thrilled about that delicious Pad Thai nothing else really mattered. Try this place when you've had enough fish tacos and coconut shrimp :-)

“Excellent find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

It's a small restaurant on a pedestrian mall in downtown Zihuatanejo, maybe a little hard to find, but well worth the effort. The owner/chef, Israel, knows how to cook. Fresh ingredients are prepared in a small kitchen in plain view. He makes a few Thai specialties (Pad Thai, Satay soup) Italian pastas, and special dishes depending on the catch of the day. We had shrimp tacos, tequila shrimp, pad Thai and a great dessert (sautéed apples with vanilla ice cream). Every dish is made to order. Prices are very reasonable. This little gem of a restaurant is so much better than many pretentious "gourmet" restaurants above La Ropa beach, at a fraction of the cost.
