Four of us foodies went to La Gula last night. A bit hard to find, but near our hotel. Upon entering second floor dining room, we saw a large room with an exposed kitchen with 3 chefs. Lovely. We ordered drinks, one appetizer, 2 salads and four entrees. We waited and waited for the appetizers and salads. The smoked fish appetizer was delish, and the hearts of palm/coconut salad was interesting and unique. Shrimp dish and Pescado Soleado were excellent, if a bit fussy. Desserts of ice cream and baked bananas were simple. I think the restaurant should be higher up on the Zihua list than it is...certainly among the top ten. The menu is a bit odd (see for yourself) but the place is worth it, IMHO.

Wow! No, let me rephrase that. Wow!!!

What an incredible dining experience. A fusion of half a dozen cuisines, with a combination of flavors you'd think might be unlikely but which work wonderfully together. And as good as the food is, the presentation even tops it. Each dish is arranged artfully, some simply and some complicated. My favorite was a pear croquette shaped like, well, a pear.

We're from Portland, Oregon, where we've got some great restaurants. La Gula can stand next to any of the finest of them.

We have just returned from our trip to Zihuatanejo. We were there for 9 days and we tried many resturants: La Gula, La Casa que canta, Espuma, Carpaccio, Agave, etc and for us, this one was the best. Great food, very well prepared and cooked and excellent service. This restaurant was one of the best we have ever tried in our lives!!

I have eaten here twice.
The owners are quite welcoming and polite.
All food is made with fresh ingredients and care and the owners call it "slow food".
The restaurant is upstairs so nice to sit at a table by the railing and watch the goings on in this quite neighborhood by the lovely beach walk.

Not only stunningly good, but stunningly surprising that it is not mentioned more often in forums such as Tripadvisor.

Creative and out of the ordinary, the care this restaurant takes with their food preparation, presentation, service and atmosphere is amazing. La Gula, other than its location on Playa Madera's Restaurant Row, would not be out of place in cities like New York or San Francisco.

While a touch pricier than some of the other surrounding venues, it is well worth every peso. We ate here twice over the course of a week (once a full dinner; the second time an assortment of appetizers).

A must not to miss when in Zhihua.
