4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

We stayed 2 nights in this large hotel room. It was great. It had a full kitchen, a bathroom and an area to get ready. It is right on the beach that is gorgeous. It is about a 5 to 10 min walk to Zihuatanejo. I would stay here again. Some of the staff don't know any english.

My husband and I were so enchanted by the Arena Suites on our first visit in 2010 that we invited our adult children and their families to accompany us during March break this year. One family with an 8-year-old and 10-year-old took us up on our offer. The Club Madera suite was perfect for them with its two ensuite bedrooms, inside sitting area and kitchen as well as a huge deck/patio, half under cover, with table and chairs, chaise longues and hammock. We grandparents stayed below in #2 with the outdoor kitchen. Here's where we congregated after a day playing on the beach and in the surf. After an always interesting walk into the market along the seawall early in the morning, we were well provisioned to make batch after batch of guacamole and ceviche as well as barbecue meat and fish to satisfy all appetites while the kids swung in the hammock or played card games. Although these units do not have a pool, the broad, shallow beach with its gorgeous warm water and surf manageable enough for young children to use a boogie board invites everyone to swim at all hours of the day. The boogie boarding was a highlight for all three generations as was the snorkelling over at Los Gatos Beach and out at Isla Ixtapa. Thanks so much to Temo, Elizabeth and all the other staff for quickly responding to every request and making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Club Madera, #1, and #2 and #3 are charming with lots of amenities and seem to have been upgraded fa...

Stayed here in January 2012. As mentioned by other travelers, these units are exceptionally clean and well managed. The housecleaning staff goes overboard to make sure your your needs are met and you have everything necessary for an enjoyable stay.
The only negative point about Arena Suites is the number of stairs needed to hit the beach or climb to the street. 98 stairs from beach to street. If you have any walking, climbing, back or knee issues then I suggest you look elsewhere. After two weeks stay i could barely walk to town for dinner. Now that is the good point. Town, Zihuatanejo is only a 5 to 10 minute walk along the beach or down a nearby street recently paved. Once in town you are free to roam about with any walking difficulties. If you plan on going over to La Ropa beach you can either walk or take the local bus. Very easy to do and very close by. Cost is about 50 cent usd. one way...or a dollar round trip.
If you plan on going during January, February, or March I suggest you make reservations early because the units fill up fast or are already prebooked/and paid for from returning guests from last year. Due to this practice that Arena Suites follows it leaves little inventory available to choose from.
Needly to say but these accommendations are very popular with the Canadian and Northern USA guest.

This was our third time staying at Arena Suites, aka Bungalows Ley. It was wonderful walking into a clean, furnished room after a long day flying. When making our reservations we requested # 2 again but it was booked. We were quickly encouraged to reserve #10, it has the same amenities, outdoor kitchen and deck, as #2 so agreed to this. The price, location, service and attention to detail is exceptional. The owner, Gladys, has done a wonderful job keeping this "gem" up. Her staff, Temo, Elizabeth, the other maid's and David, the handyman, were always quick to assist in your need. One time David was tending the plants on the deck in front of ours. I was struggling with a burner on the stove, he quickly came and fixed it. When we needed another purified water container Temo was right there to bring it to us. What a wonderful experience waking up each morning, having coffee on our deck, watching the sunrise and greeting these wonderful people as they went about thier jobs, always with a smile. Another plus for us staying here is the walking proximity to town, the beach (who needs a pool?), La Ropa Beach and economical restaurants right in our area. The hustle and bustle of everyday life slows down here. You can sit on your deck, with an ocean view, smell the scents of Mexico and enjoy hearing the crashing of the waves along the beach.

Just got back and need to tell all what a wonderful place to kick back. When we got there they were redoing the roof on #2 the suite we had booked,so got to spend 6 nights in #9. What a treat. Great bed cozy space and the cooling tub. Then moved to #2 Wow Bed still good and what a view. Spent alot of time just sitting at our outdoor kitchen in the evenings. Well maintained and very clean. Thanks Elizabeth for all your good work. And Gabe the handyman never stopped working to make the place a special place. There are not many hotels on Madera beach with a place to sit on the beach but we had one with comfortable lounge chairs and great view of the Bay.No pool but with the ocean right there who needs one. A short walk to downtown and many great places to shop and eat. Never had a bad meal. would recommend to anyone who wants a different experience than your basic All inclusive. I even cooked in our well set up kitchen. If we needed anything all we had to do was ask. We our already booked in for next year. Gladys the owner is a lovely woman who really wants to make sure your stay is perfect. Can't wait for next year.

Room Tip: Room 9 would be great for a couple who want a bit more privacy . All rooms that we saw had something...

As a single mom I felt so spoiled by the service and kindness of the staff. It was my first time to Zihua and it was a perfect experience with my family and friends. Arena Suites is clean and comfortable, a great walk to town and right on the beach. I highly recommend it!

We have been staying here for nine years now and have stayed in #7, #4 and #5 (before they were interior rooms), #2 and #1. We continue to come back because of the great value for our dollar, the cleanliness, the location, the staff and the feeling that we are truly in Mexico. We love that we are just steps away from the beach and not having a pool has never bothered us. This trip we had friends staying next door at the Hotel Brisas del Mar and we joined them at their pool, ordered drinks and food from the waiters and tipped well. They were thrilled to see us! The owner Glady's is alway gracious and willing to help in any way she can and the staff, including Elizabeth, the maid who has been there as long as we have is always quick to fix any issues that may crop up. This trip we had some family and friends staying with us and three of the four bungalows did not have hammocks up. It has been low season so I am assuming that was why. We mentioned it and by the evening, everyone had hammocks! I usually hesitate to tell people about this place because I am afraid it will get so popular, we won't be able to get in but as the economy and tourism is so bad right now in Mexico and because I consider Arena Suites my second home and a second family, I just had to do a review on them!

Room Tip: If you have two couples, #1 at the top is great! 2 bedrooms each with their own bath and own A/C...
