Villa del Sol Resort
Ranked #11 of 78 Hotels in Zihuatanejo
Certificate of Excellence

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights over Labor day weekend, and it was great. We stayed in LS 16--good location and very private porch area. The bed was comfy and A/C worked well. The food was plentiful and good. I am very thankful that we got the meal plan, though. Our trick was sleeping late, eating a big breakfast around 11:00 so we stayed full until dinner.
Both restaurants were equally nice, but La Cantina had the best view of the beach. The beach and water were good, but the water and sand in the Caribbean is better.
Zihuatanejo was a great little town--the most picturesque place! You can't imagine it--you need to go see for yourself. The hills surrounding the bay with the homes and small hotels built into the lush landscape is captivating.
The number one selling point for me with VDS over La Casa Que Canta and Amuletto was the proximity to the beach--and I am SO glad I chose VDS just for this reason!
By the way, the staff were exceptionally friendly!

My husband and I got married on the beach infront of the La Cantina with about 30 friends and family. Angleica, the wedding cooridinator and the staff were amazing!! This was our second time staying at Villa Del Sol and were planning on going back each year!! This is truly paradise!!!

Our honeymoon (June 5-12) at VDS was amazing. We were grateful for the attentive service from every facet of the resort: restuarants and bar, beach, spa, housekeeping and front desk. With maid service twice daily, personal waitstaff for your palapa and friendly servers in the restaurants, you can quickly befriend the small staff, making the experience even more personal.

We choose a Lagoon Prime Suite and were given LS5, which is a room I would highly recommend after checking out a few other room types. If you are trying to decide which room type to select, the LPS are the way to go in my opinion. With a little more room in the bedroom, a larger and beautifully tiled bath and the spacious and comfortable outdoor living area, the room made our vacation that much more special. Also, since it is on the second floor, you are afforded more privacy, and the mini pool doesn't collect leaves and petals from the vegetation.

We selected the honeymoon package, and the value was very good. The food at VDS far outshined the food at other resorts where we have stayed. The breakfast selections, accompanied by fresh guacamole, black beans, several different salsas and fresh fruit and juice. Lunch served at the palapa or in the cantina was equally fresh and delicious. Each evening's meal was gourmet enough to be interesting and delicious but also accessible for even the pickiest eaters.

The pools and beach were wonderful. The beach was cleaned each morning, the water was the perfect temperature and color and the pools were imaculate. The spa is small but provides great services and a competent staff.

The only wish that we would have for VDS is to have the central bar "La Barca" open an additional hour. Currently it closes down at 11 pm, and if you eat a later dinner, then want to play cards or scrabble while enjoying a fantastic margarita, you may be a bit pressed for time.

Overall, this resort is a small, calm slice of paradise. The limited size of the resort truly allows you to be pampered by the staff and craft the type of vacation you want. For us, it was the perfect location for a restful, romantic and sunny honeymoon.

I can not say enough positive things about this property. The builder, although not of Mexican decent, stayed true to the native architecture. The grounds are very tropical and lush and birds aplenty to awaken us in the morning and lull us to sleep at night while dozing in the hammock on our patio, what a nice touch. Coffee awaited every morning at our designated time, accompanied by fresh rolls. Wonderful food, although expensive by Mexican standards. Really enjoyed La Cantina most. Best guacomole. The pool at beachside with the bar nearby was an amazing sight. Staff was incredilble - pleasant, helpful, accomodating, We stayed in a Deluxe mini-suite and were very pleased with it. Comfortable bed with an amazing floral arrangement nightly awaiting our return - I love this property and it is one of the few I know I will make make any return trips.

We just got back from our honeymoon at Villa del Sol and we were more than satisfied with every aspect of our trip. The beach was amazing, the resort was beautiful, the rooms were comforable, and the food exceeded our expectations again and again. The hotel staff was also very helpful, not just with the basics of our trip but also helping to schedule activities for us to do during our stay. Take a look at our pictures - they'd make great post cards! :-D

The Hotel is very nicely done. The grounds are kept very, very clean. The staff is very attentive. The food is incredible for all three meals during the day. We stayed for a total of six nights, four with the Honeymoon in Paradise package, and two on our own. All six nights and seven days we were there we were on the MAP simply due to two reasons. The food was incredible, and it was just so easy to go from our room to the restaurant.

We stayed in Lagoon Suite #1. Very nice room, huge shower, maid and turndown service was done promptly and professionally every day. The plunge pool was great to come back to about 2 in the afternoon when it was getting a little too warm on the beach. Each morning we enjoyed our pastries and tea(you can have coffee) on our deck over looking the lagoon and read either a book or the NYT print out they gave us. We had breakfast every day except on at La Villa. All meals were great(can't stress it enough). We did Room Service one morning and it was perfect.

The beach set up with the chairs and palapas is wonderful. We had lunch each day at our own private table on the beach. The guacamole is terrific and we had some every day. The margaritas were excellent.

Yes, beach vendors do come by, but all you have to say is "No Gracias" and they keep right on moving. I recommend the Beach BBQ on Wednesday night and the Mexican Fiesta on Friday night. They do have a good wine selection, but it is hard to stay away from the margaritas. I had an opportunity to meet both the manager and owner and both were very inquisitive to make sure our stay was perfect, which it was.

I would recommend anyone giving Villa Del Sol a try. It is not the night life center of the universe, but if you want to get away, enjoy the waves, the sun, the food, and just relax the place is perfect. We had a total of seven spa treatments and all were very satisfactory.

Definitely go!!!

It's a great hotel: rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, very clean and quiet; beds are comfortable. Food is great - pastries in the morning are excellent, breakfast is filling, but the best part is the dinner at the La Villa restaurant. However the beach is too busy to our taste, especially on weekends and holidays. While the beach in front of the hotel is private, there is a lot of foot traffic to nearby public beaches. It all calms down during the week, but if you want privacy on the beach I wouldn't recommend the place during popular US or Mexican holidays. I'd also recommend going into the village, it has several nice restaurants and market places and is very safe.
