Beautiful environs, top-notch service. Really can't say enough about these two facets. Seating area is under a lovely canopy of large trees, perfectly lit. Cozy but not cramped. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, as was his assistant.
But the food was a major letdown. Calamari was bland and several pieces needed to be fried for another minute or so as the batter was somewhat doughy. The famous coconut shrimp was also meh, though I should point out that the large shrimp were impressive and quite fresh. It's just that there was no "pop" to them. A couple pieces also suffered from the same doughiness as the calamari.
The seafood fettuccine was also uninspiring, though, again, I will point out that the ingredients were fresh all fresh and of good quality. The pasta was overcooked and on the wide side.
Finally, the Oaxacan chocolate brownie was, unfortunately, more of the same. It was on the "fudgie" side, lacked either the richness or levity that you would hope from a dessert at such a high-priced establishment.
We were looking forward to dining here, and perhaps the low rating is a reflection of the food just not living up to the high expectations set by previous TripAdvisor's reviewers. We would probably not even have reviewed this restaurant, but we feel it is important to point out the shortcomings of the meal, especially given the restaurant's premium pricing.
There are countless other options in the area that will prepare superior meals at lower prices and for this reason we must give Coconuts 2 stars only.

This is a lovely restaurant in Zihuatanejo. My husband is a "foodie" and talked about how wonderful our dining experience was for several days after our visit. I will start off with the atmosphere. The restaurant courtyard is very charming and inviting in the evenings. The lighting is perfect. The setting is very classy and inviting. The best in the Zihuatanejo area.
Our service was impeccable. We were promptly greeted upon our arrival and given our choice of the open tables. Throughout the evening the service was quite attentive , very courteous, informative and prompt. Our meal was fresh fish. perfectly done. great salads, very decadent desert. this is probably the place for the best food in Zihuatanejo. Yes, compared to other area restaurants it may be a bit more expensive, but the quality of the experience and the meal are so much better that it is well worth it.
