“The best Hotel for relaxing in Puerto Vallarta”
Reviewed July 17, 2010

We were in Puerto Vallarta for one week and a half because we had our Wedding in this hotel in March 2010. The wedding was not only gorgeous arranged, but it was also perfectly arranged. Some of our guests stayed in this hotel too so I had pre-arranged with the hotel some special fares for my wedding guests. The pool and the beach area, are just excellent. I recommend this place for couples or small families. The only thing I find as a contra is a) that Regina does not offer Breakfast in the rates; and b) before you could walk-in into the Westin hotel -neighborn hotel- and now they have placed some kind of fence, so even if you as a Regina guest want to use the Westin's pools -which you can use- you need to walk all the way through the pool-beach area, which can be up to 8-10 minutes walking. If you decide to have lunch inside Regina, it can be quite expensive. So we used to have breakfast everyday outside the hotel in a little "fonda" (little restaurant) inside Marina Vallarta. I recommend it if you want to staty "out of the noisy" area of Puerto Vallarta City.

Arriving in P.V. you are met by the timeshare people who lie and harrass telling you they are your ride to your hotel. Beware, avoid them. We have been told as of Jan 2011 they will no longer be able to harrass you on the streets and the airport. They will be required to have an "office" and you will have to go into their establishment.
Club Regina is clean, very freindly staff and one of the most beautiful grounds and beaches I've seen in P.V. Everyone is helpful and intent on helping you relax and vacation.
The exchange rate at the hotel is pretty good, and convenient. Make sure your USD are not marred written on or torn, they will not take it for exchange. This small fact had us running around trying to find someone who would take our $20 bills that had ink on them, so we could get to the airport. Do to eat at the Invizio, the club restaurant, the food is excellent.
The maids clean your room(s) nicely, we tipped daily and when we tipped in American cash rather than pesos, we got even better service.
If you end up leaving things, be sure to write a note or tell the maid they can have it, otherwise the next guests will have it. The laborers there get paid so little it helps when they can have clothes or incidentials we leave behind.
We did the zipline tour, snorkle tour and Rhythm of the Night all thru puerto Tours. They all were the BOMB!!! I will be coming back to P.V. soon.

We spent a great week at Club Regina. It is close to the airport, so it was a quick cab ride. We had been told to by-pass all the time share people trying to offer you taxis at the airport, so we walked on through, but then jumped into a white taxi and paid $15 to go about a mile to the resort. We were told later that if we had walked further and over a bridge or walkway to a yellow cab, it would have only cost us about $6 or $7. Oh well! We took the yellow taxis back to the hotel and when we wanted a taxi around town and they were reasonably priced.

When we checked in, we were to be in a studio. We requested a king bed, and the man said it also came with a jacuzzi and a balcony. When we got to the room, we realized it had no kitchen, so my husband went back down and asked about the kitchen. We didn't realize that a studio either has a kitchen and two full beds (no balcony) or it has a balcony and a king bed, but no kitchen. Next time we go, we will upgrade to a one bedroom, so that we have the two rooms, which will give us a kitchen, living room and bathroom, and a king bedroom with a bathroom, balcony and jacuzzi.

The maid service was excellent and we tipped each day. The hotel was very clean as were the surroundings. We loved lounging by the pool each day under some trees. We ate most evenings at the Marina, but did enjoy the breakfast/lunch buffet at the resort restaurant. All in all, we met some great people that have become friends and we had a wonderful time. Oh, yes...we each LOVED our two massages on the beach! And para-sailing was fun, too.

This place was wonderful, from the bellhop station when we arrived to the check-in, to housekeeping. The room was wonderfully kept and the service was OUTSTANDING. I am not sure what others on this website are talking about. The maintainance of the property was ongoing all the time all day and the property was immaculate. The only problem we had was that the timeshare wanted up to upgrade and were adament about it. I bought the timeshare online and pay the maintainance fee and did not want to add anything. Other than that the it was pretty good. Even the fence down the property seperating the Westin from the Regina was not a bother. There was a great beach a nice view, and wonderful people. I will be sending a review to the property very soon. If you want to have a great time, and a great place to stay, here is the place.

My wife and I stayed are Raintree owners in Cabo but we thought it would be nice to try someplace different. I'm happy to say that the experience was quite pleasant.

Room: We are silver members which is almost as low as you can go. We were given a room. In the back building with a nice partial view of the beach. Unfortunately we also overlooked the main air circulation fans which generated a constant noise. My wife called it the "helicopter". As such we didn't open our windows much. The hotel was not full but we were unable to get our room changed. What we do speculate is that there. Are designated rooms for various membership levels. If we were gold or platinum the "helicopter" would probably not be an issue. Despite this the view was still quite nice. The room was original issue from when the place was built. I am told that there are substantial upgrades in progress but they haven't gotten to room 750 yet. Nonetheless, no major complaints except for the sofa which was shot.

Service: nice staff. Much better than we encountered in raintree Cabo. Consierge and front desk weren't too reliable about following up on requests or calling back. Do yourself a favor and make your own dinner reservations. Other than the initial offer for a "membership update meeting" when we first arrived we were never hustled for timeshare presentations.
Waiter service at the beach was generally good, food quality was inconsistent and dshes sometimes arrived cold. Inizio restaurant was a bit overpriced, food was decent and service was quite good.

Westin: it's true that there is a fence between the two properties but it is very tastefully done and doesn't feel out of place. There was direct access to the west in grounds from our building, and there is also an opening in the fence near the beach that allows for passage between the two grounds. We were welcomed to use any of the west in facilities except the beach which was fine because rain tree has a nicer beach in my opinion. Bring your credit card as you cannot charge to your room. The service, food and drinks were noticeably better at the Westin, you pay for it though.

Intangibles: the guests this time of year were split between the "blue hair" crowd (I'm 50) and families with small children. If you're single, young, hip, or looking for that romantic getaway, this may not be the place for you. Nice folks though. About an even split between Spanish speakers and English speakers. There were no umbrellas by the pool. Some of us don't want to bake in the hot sun all day...shade at poolside was sparse.

Overall: beautiful grounds, great beach, decent service... I enjoyed our trip. We will return soon.

Before our trip we read such bad reviews that we could hardly believe our good fortune with the Club Regina. Our accommodations were perfect for two couples. The staff was great and invited some other friends who arrived to enjoy the pool with us. Much appreciated. Nearby resturants at the marina were fun. Who needs the Westin? We have traveled extensively in Mexico. Perhaps the whiners have not. Viva Mexico.

We stayed here in late April this year, and had a great time. As other people have noted, the common areas and pool/beach areas are immaculate and gorgeous. Staff quite friendly. The condos themselves are more than adequate if your focus is on being at the beach, pool, or out wandering the city or marina area. If your idea of a great vacation is sitting around in the condo, look elsewhere, as they're not that comfortable, and their look is kind of tired. We could tell it was probably really nice over 10 years ago, but everything's worn down--discolored grout in the tile, shower doors permanently fogged up, couch cushioning so worn down and sloped that you almost slide off the cusion onto the floor, stovetop old and hardly functional, bed rock hard, pillows a complete joke--so if/when they start the supposed remodeling project I've read about, it will make a gigantic improvement to the facility.

Pros: very close to the airport, just bypass all the slimeshare sales guys outside of customs and head right to the outside taxi area, and you're at Club Regina in under 10 minutes.
Great pool area with bar, small restaurant, and zillions of chaise lounges.
Beach area right next to the pool. Waves aren't too harsh as other Pacific resorts are rumored to be, water (in April at least) was warm enough to relax in there for half an hour at a time with no problems. Great views of downtown and oldtown from beach.

Cons: see above, condos could be in better shape, with nicer tile, improved furniture, and newer kitchen appliances.

Tips: Take a bus for 7 or 8 pesos to Wal-Mart, load up on groceries, and take a taxi back for about 60 pesos. They're lined up right outside the sliding doors waiting for tourists, so you don't have to worry about standing around hoping one drives up.
If you're on a budget, the restaurants in the Marina area, just a five minute walk, are honestly better than the on-site restaurants at Regina, and cheaper.
If you're interested in a day trip of some kind--snorkelling, zipline, canopy, whatever--book it through the concierge on-site, not through the many guys on the street who'll promise you everything half-off, "As long as we can take you to breakfast and a tour of the new XYZ resort in Nuevo Vallarta tomorrow."

Overall, a great place, I'd go back!
