“Great Place - I don't know how anyone can say otherwise..”
Reviewed April 18, 2010

What a great vacation! Check in was a little slow and we had to come back and wait in line to get our room key but that was the absolute worst part of our entire trip. The staff worked hard and were very service-oriented. Juan Carlos and Ana were the best wait staff down by the pool. This is in the northern part of town inside the marina. They had two restaurants with the more formal one offering a breakfast buffet that was on the pricey side. They also offered a normal, menu-based breakfast that was high quality and a decent price. Service was wonderful. The other restaurant opened after breakfast and was right next to the pool which offered a more simpler fare but still very tasty and wide-ranging. Service here was outstanding. We had a one-bedroom with attached kitchenette and living room. A TV was in the bedroom with king bed as well as another in the living room. Two bathrooms with one having a shower tub and the other a walk-in tiled shower with glass door. Both were spacious but at opposite ends of our place. A nice balcony with whirlpool tub was outside our bedroom but went unused in the 85 degree temps. Housekeeping was daily and the we tipped the staff daily and received cute towel animals and flower petals throughout. Plenty of hot water and a nice flow to the shower - not like hotels back home. We had a short (4 ft?) refrigerator, small microwave, sink, dishes/pots/pans, and a two burner stove. Good for popcorn, cold water bottles, and beer. Keep in mind that in Mexico there are no carpeted floors and it is very common to come into your room after it is cleaned with the air conditioning going and the windows on a hot/humid day wide open. We went the week of Easter and we were in the minority with Nationals on vacation in the resort but a very friendly atmosphere. Events down at the pool happened every hour and kids of all ages enjoyed Timmy Bond the clown daily for hours on end including face painting. Daniel, the Head Bellman, was very helpful and friendly by answering our questions patiently and offering restaurant suggestions. No bugs, flies or any other pests. By the way, there were extra security personnel all over but not intrusive at all and really was a nice touch. Never went to the place next door but quite a few people came over to use our pool and restaurants. All in all, this is a great place a little ways away from downtown and Old Town but worth the $$.

I just returned from a week at the former Westin, former Club Regina, now the Raintree Vacation Club in Puerto Vallarta. Slowly, all of the Club Regina signs are coming down and the people who work there have Raintree Vacation Club embroydered on their uniforms. Change is here. The people who work here are still very nice. The fence down the middle of the property separating it from the Westin Hotel benefits no one at all. You feel like you are in a concentration camp. You can't use the tennis courts or the gym without paying a fee. Is this a violation of our purchase agreement? No onw will say, but I guess part of the "special assessment fee" is to buil one for the timeshare people. How silly... You still get your discout at the pool , but must pay cash at the Westin's pool...how silly. You now must return the towels at the end of the day or be charged for them or you have to take them to the front desk the next day. It would be nice if they told you this.. The new restaurant that they build is nice, I guess it was built to spite the Westin, as they had one too that was OK. Once again I guess that the "special assessment" money paid for this also. I had friends come down for a couple of days and used my points to pay for it. They gave them a room overlooking the roof of the gym. How nice tor treat perspective buyers thisd way. I askes for an upgrade or if they could move them to a room with a view and was tols the place was 94% full. Could have fooled me as it did not seem this way. They were aggressive in having meeting with owners to try to get them involved in some other sales scam, and I said now way. They acted like I turned down the winning lottery ticket. P.V. as usual was great, and I will go back to the Westin-Club Regina-Raintree or whatever, but I am truly dissapointed.

First of all, thanks to all who wrote reviews before me - they were extremely helpful and appreciated. I'll do my best to give some good tips here as well.

Club Regina. We went here for one week on invitation to listen to a timeshare pitch. I did research beforehand and learned the Better Business Bureau has bestowed a rating of "F" to Raintree Vacation Clubs, so had no intention to buy. And didn't. They accepted it and were relatively polite.

Now, about the Club. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept. The beach is nice - it's not very large, so forget about long walks on the beach, but it's not too crowded and there are plenty of lounge chairs. Service is not great. We only had a server offer us a drink once during the week we were there. And one evening we ordered a club sandwich to go from Inzio and were told it would take AN HOUR - and this was around 8 pm or so - and they wouldn't deliver it to the beach, only steps away. (We ate there several times, and other than that experience, the food and service were good. They have a great breakfast buffet. Try the watermelon juice.) The pools are beautiful, but the water was too chilly for me, so we stayed at the beach the whole time.

The rooms themselves were functional, but horribly outdated. We had a one room suite, with a kitchen and hot tub on the balcony (it's TINY! Two can fit, but you can't stretch your legs at all). We were told they're in the process of updating, and they showed us a much, much nicer "model room" as part of the timeshare pitch. But as they are, I would certainly not pay to come here again.

Puerta Vallarta as a vacation destination was dissappointing. Don't get me wrong, we had a great time (because we do everywhere we go), but this is not some luxurious beach getaway. The town is dirty and smoggy. The timeshare and tour salesmen are literally at every corner hounding you. I was even saying "No, Gracias" in my sleep! There's no "luxury" to be found once you leave the resort. We did find some great restaurants and fun things to do though...here they are:
Restaurants: Victors in the Marina is a must. A cold beer and shot of tequila is about 130 pesos. Laid back ambiance - good food, and met some great locals who told us where all to go. Also at the marina is Portobello's Italian Restaurant - pricey but delicious. Los Palomas has a great breakfast.

For a romantic dinner, take a taxt to Casa Isabel's...it's on the mountainside with a stunning view of the bay. Make reservations and don't miss the sunset. Beware of the Green Apple Martinis. :)

Pepe's in Old Town near the Malecon is a great taco stand.

Fun little beach bars along the Malecon and in the Romantic Zone are the Cheeky Monkey and El Burrows. Just walk along the beach and you'll discover some hidden little jewels. We never had a bad meal.

For adventure, do a Canopy Tour. Several locals we spoke to said Vallarta Adventures is the best company, and we were very impressed with them. Had a BLAST! Highly recommend this. We also did a Whale Watching Photo Safari. Had a lot of fun, and it was the end of the season but they managed to find several whales for us. The boat ride alone made it worth the price of admission.

All in all, I'm glad we tried it once, but we will not choose PV as a vacation spot again. But if we did, we would choose a different resort.

The hotel is large & glitzy, but our room, called a studio, was a bedroom with minimal cooking facilties & no balcony. We could have got a studio with a balcony but then we would have lost the kitchen area.
Our biggest complaint was a constant musty smell. It wasn't the worst I have ever experienced, but was far from pleasant.
The location of the hotel is excellent. It is quiet & right at the end of a bus line. However, the beach is small. We really don't feel inclined to recommend this hotel.

Stayed here in february. The rooms are outdated, worn. Light bulbs out, lamp shades bent, one cooking plate didn'y get hot, water leaking from the ceiling during a storm. The sofabed is very uncomfortable. We ended up in a noisy room with no view and some noisy fan or air condition outside of the room. Front desk does not help when trying to change room. Our building was cut off from the pool area by an ugly fence that now divides the Westin and Regina properties. That means you have to walk a loooooong distance any time you want to go to the pool/beach. They now charge to use the fitness club and tennis.
We have stayed here before and used to like it. There has been a steady deterioration in quality. This is not a 4* property anymore. The timeshare pushers bother you constantly. I would not recommend staying here.

We are Club Regina Members. What a change. There were 3 different parties that went on well after midnight. Two were at the Westin. The 4rd was at Club Regina. Club Regina has no control nor do they seem to care about the very loud noise coming from the Westin. One party that went to 3:00am was right next to the green fence as close as possible to Club Regina. We complained but it fell on deaf ears. We are considering selling our timeshare.

If your idea of a relaxing vacation is amplified disco music till dawn that shakes your room, this is the hotel for you. We arrived after a long day of travelling to be told by the desk clerk that there was a party that night till 3 AM. "It's only one night" she reassured us. She also told us that at midnight we could call the desk and ask them to lower the amplifier.
When we first booked this hotel last year, I wrote to two trip adviser posters and asked if this place was quiet. They both assured me that is was. Things have changed. This is a very noisy resort. There is loud music around the pools and beach. We hung out at the upper Westin pool which was quieter.
As for the fence, it was put up by the Westin which is for sale (or so we heard)--so it's probably to mark the property line and won't be coming down very soon.
The bill they gave us for the stay was wrong by about $150.
We did not like this resort and will not be back. We are Club Regina owners and much prefer the other resorts we've been to.
