“Beautiful resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2010

The Dreams Puerto Vallarta really lives up to its name. The wonderful staff at this resort made everything from the trip from the airport, checking in, dining, relaxing, and everything else, a dream. The service at check in was fast and efficient. The bellmen take your luggage right to your room for you and are super helpful and friendly. The rooms were nice, and spotlessly clean. Sometimes we didn't get enough towels after the room was cleaned but whenever we called to ask for something, be it towels, extra coffee cups, or anything it was brought to us right away. Not having to wear a plastic bracelet or make dinner reservations was a welcome change from other resorts I have been to. The food at this resort and the presentation of it was the best I have ever had. Even the buffet was excellent! The highlight of my trip was my friend's wedding. This was the most beautiful wedding I have been to. The beach location was perfect and the set up was great. The area that was set up for the dinner reception was also great, dinner was excellent and the service was great. The only thing that I didn't like was that we had to move at 10:30pm and go to the hotel lobby bar. Which was nice too, but no more dancing. The entertainment crew at the resort were awesome. They always had something fun going on. They work very hard at making sure that everybody is looked after and having a good time. If you ever need anything while you are there find Carlos of the entertainment team because he can help you out with anything! I would recommend this resort to anyone looking to be looked after. Not really great if you are looking for a party with friends as there is no disco or anywhere to dance, you have to go into town for that. But if you are looking to relax, this is the place!

Fantastic hotel, pretty close to old town, can't say enough about the service and friendly staff.

Here are the only things I would criticize about our stay:

1. Bottom shelf alcohol. At a fine establishment I would not expect to be served grain alcohol with mixer. I finally got the trick and started asking for the good liquor in my drinks, and even then it was average at best. Wish they spent a little more money and got better quality stuff.

2. Water was difficult to get. I've stayed at other resorts where you could swing by the lobby and pick up bottled water - here no. Yes, you get 5 little bottles in your mini-bar, but that goes quickly if you play tennis or swim. I asked at the lobby and they had to send up room service with bottled water. I strangely felt thirsty for most of the trip since I didn't want to deal with the water hassle.

3. This only applies during spring break, but they definitely let a LOT of spring breakers onto this resort. Minded, it wasn't as rowdy as some others I have been to at that time, but did take away from the serenity a little bit.

Overall though, 4 out of 5 stars, would definitely come back. Food was fantastic too.

We arrived and were greeted at the airport by our shuttle driver. Unfortunately, we were first "cornered" by the relentless sales people at the airport, who tried to get us to agree to various time-share seminars, etc. Then off to Dreams Puerto Vallarta. Upon arrival we were greeted by staff and treated to cool cloths and glasses of champagne. At check-in, we decided to upgrade our room. It is important to note that there was no pressure to do so, but we did it on our own. Upgrading to the "Preferred" tower was one of the best decisions of our stay. The rooms were nothing short of fabulous (although we never did see the "regular" rooms). Along with the upgrade came free internet, exclusive beach, and several other small things (beds turned down, rooms kept spotless, large balcony, mints at bedtime, private concierge, etc.).

Throughout our stay, we were treated like royalty by everyone. While out and about and talking to others staying at other resorts, we realized the little things that Dreams guests could appreciate; no wristbands, no reservations at restaurants, etc.

We spent much time at the resort, but did go into town on a few occasions. Puerto Vallarta is such a neat place with so much heritage and tradition, nothing like Cancun, which is like Chicago with a beach.

After reading numerous posts on this site and others, we were warned about things like the time share people at the airport, grumpy front desk people at Dreams, etc. Our ONLY complaint about the entire vacation was being sucked into the time share people. The folks at the front desk were awesome, and the others were even better than that.

Again, there's no question, this is the place to stay and we'll be back.

This is our second time at Dreams (two years in a row). That's quite an endorsement! Pretty much everything about this resort works.

My one and only complaint would be that a really strong effort to get people to write Trip Advisor reviews. That being said, the place is pretty much worthy of the top review, so I can't really blame them.

I have to say that the food is stellar! Damn if I didn't eat too much of it! We had a spectacular meal in the Italian Restaurant (Wish we'd gone back on the last night), and several other impressive meals at the Oceans and Seaside Grill. When I say impressive I'm talking about beautifully prepared fresh fish. But really any meal was superb.

The beach is simply gorgeous and expansive and apparently the largest private beach in PV.

I could actually go on and on about Dreams but I'll leave that for you to do after you return.

And finally, there were a significant number of great staff. Our favorite was IVAN - at the Baracuda Bar. Just a genuinely kind and sweet man and a great bartender!

Try to keep an open mind when looking at reviews, some people nitpick at every little thing, remember you are ot staying in the US. It is NOT a requirement for everyone to speak English in a Spanish speaking country (duh). Took a while to write this but it says something if you are writing a review right after you book your next trip to tha same location! Had a great time and really loved the private beach! The staff were great, the food was good and the views were beautiful. Room service came atleast once if not twice a day. My only complaint and I hate to use that word is the room was a little humid at times, but you can request someone to fix it easily. With the next visit coming up we are staying in the tower, more money but it looks even better!

We just got back from DREAMS PVR- our second visit there and once again, it was amazing! This is the only place that we have found that we cannot find something to complain about, in any department, from room service to food service to laying on the beach having someone consisitently asking if there's anything we need! The staff are always smiling, happy to help and go above and beyond for everyone there!
We look forward to heading back next year during our cold winter season! :)
Thanks again, Dreams PVR!!!

My wife and I travelled to Dreams for our honeymoon in January, so this review is much overdue. It was both our first experience in Mexico and an all inclusive – and there is not much more to say than we LOVED IT.

The resort is a quick 20-25 minute drive from the airport. Check-in was a breeze. We left our bags with the bell boy and checked in within a matter of minutes. Our bags arrived shortly after we got to our room.

We stayed in the old tower, and while I’m sure it’s not nearly as “luxurious” as the new tower, it was very quant, and very comfortable. Every room is oceanview, even in the old tower, and while there was no balcony, the entire wall facing the ocean is a giant glass sliding door – thus your entire room can become a balcony. We spent almost every morning with the doors open, enjoying fruit and the “American breakfast” via room service. The bed was comfortable, and every night we had a newsletter in the room explaining the night’s and next day’s activities. The only in-room complaint for us was the TV, which we only turned on for a few minutes each night -- but it was OLD and made a really loud humming noise. Oh well.

The food was FANTASTIC. Let me say that again. FANTASTIC. I’ve read some negative reviews regarding the food here, but I can honestly say that every meal we had was 5-star – both in presentation and taste. The two seaside restaurants were our favorites. The Mexican flank steak was to die for, and all of the seafood was delicious. Drinks were NEVER hard to come by. If you don’t want to wait for a server, get your butt up and walk over to one of the many bars. We had our fill on pina coladas! Oh, and ask for the “Mexican coffee.” Quite a show…our server almost started himself on FIRE! (We tipped him pretty well for the effort).

Speaking of tips, we tipped a buck every two or three drinks at the bar, and every time a server brought one to us on the beach or by the pool. We brought $100 in ones, and just carried some with us each day. We usually tipped $5-$7 at meals too. Not necessary, but appreciated.

The pools were nice and large, but there were a lot of kids around. We knew this was a “kid-friendly” resort when we booked, but it did, at times get a tiny bit annoying for a honeymooning couple. We had fun with it though.
The ocean has large waves – but it is the OCEAN! We never felt unsafe playing in the waves, but we didn’t go too far out. We took advantage of the resort’s free kayaks and tooled around the bay. That was a blast. Our last night, we even saw a group of whales about a mile from shore. We watched them for about an hour. AWESOME.
The beach is private, stuck between two coves, so no wristbands and no onslaught of pushy vendors. The vendors on the beach are approved by the resort, and when you say “no”, they say gracias and go on their way.

My wife loved the entertainment staff. They were always good at getting people involved. We also enjoyed the movie on the beach. The theme nights – especially those that included poolside buffets, --were also very entertaining, and again, FANTASTIC food.
If you are looking for wild night life, you’ll probably want to take a $5 cab ride into town. The resort pretty much shuts down around 10 p.m., but we didn’t mind. We could usually find a place to get a drink and stroll the beach.

Unrelated to the resort – if you want to go ziplining, go with Los Veranos!! Go on the early tour. There were FOUR of us, and THREE guides, so we got unmatched personal attention. (The afternoon tour, as we were leaving, had about 20-30 people). The guides were HILARIOUS and made the adventure even that much more fun. It was about $60 American per person, and we booked right with the hotel’s excursion desk. Just tell them you want to do Los Veranos! Scary as HE!!, but FUN. (Be careful not to go to the excursion desks by the doctor’s office to book your trip. These are private tour companies, not associated with the resort, and they will try to talk you into something different. The hotel’s excursion desk is in a private office just off the old tower lobby, and they can get you pretty much any tour from any company). We took a five-minute cab ride to the Los Veranos office, and then took a 35 minute bus ride up the mountain to get to the zipline.

After this trip, my wife and I are definitely planning another trip to Mexico, and we will always make DREAMS our first priority.
