This was installed several years ago and it is obvious it has been left derelict to falter on its own. When it was new it had a wonderful light show that changed cadence every 30 seconds or so. Now many fixtures are burned out and its all jumpy.

Kind of an eye catcher strolling the Malecon...so many new things built here including the extension of the Malecon both north and south of the original area and great statues as well. Really well done !!!

The old pier was wooden timbers and planks and had seen a lot of wear and weather. The new pier of concrete and steel is a much more artistic/architectural design and with a light feature that draws a lot of people in the evening along the Malecon.

The construction of the new pier is a significant upgrade to this area and is with the walk. The design gives one the impression of enjoying a sailboat on the ocean. In addition it provides a seating area to enjoy the view along the beach both north and south. For those taking water taxis it is much easier to get on board than from the old pier. This landmark is easy to get to by yellow cab if you wish to come downtown and experience the many restaurants and shopping.

After eating at a nearby restaurant we headed to the pier which is hard to miss if you are at the beach in the south.
This is a great place to just stare at the horizon and take some photos, when I visited the place I could even saw some dolphins (maybe 2 or 3) in the distance, I would recommend you to get some binoculars with you.
