“The Heart of Vallarta”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

Most definitely worth seeing if you are downtown. This beautiful old church is incredible to see...and if you happen to luck out and arrive while there is a mass or ceremony taking place, enjoy. So beautiful!

“Still Functional Lovely Church”
Reviewed June 8, 2014

First of all, unlike many churches in Europe, churches in Mexico, for the most part, are all still functioning houses of worship. Please remember this when visiting and show proper respect to those engaged in worship and to the structures themselves by dressing appropriately and being respectful. While many of us are not Catholic and not educated in all the symbolism and icons within, it is important to remember we are tolerated visitors there, not the main purpose of the building.

The church, dedicated to the patron saint of Puerto Vallarta, and much of Mexico, is a well-known site in the Puerto Vallarta skyline. The lacy wrought iron detail in the crown shines bright in the sky. Inside, gilded columns and arches provide a beautiful, yet simple, backdrop for Catholic worshipers to gather. Of particular beauty are the stone bas-reliefs marking the Stations of the Cross. Also not to be missed are the four paintings on the interior arch above the alter. One thing seemingly missing that we have seen in other Mexican churches was a large pipe organ. Presumably, the large pipe organ would be in the Cathedral in nearby Guadalajara.

Just off the Malecon, this location is an easy visit and well worth your time. Service times are listed online so make sure to check before your visit if you want to go inside and see the lovely interior and art works.

“Part of City and Tequila Factory Tour”
Reviewed June 8, 2014

Church is beautiful and our guide was most informative. Really knew his stuff! Part of the tour included a ride into the mountains to the Don Tadeo Tequila Factory. Fun, Fun, Fun! Ended day with a great lunch at a hidden in the hills restaurant. I must say that our tour driver was the best!

Neat site to see. Mails be cool if they had some info on it or someone there to tell you about the historical significance.
