“Back after 10 Years”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

Very pleased to notice that the beds are no longer 'slabs' - in the past this was a sore point at all Mayan Palaces, so it was a pleasant surprise that we no longer woke up everyday wishing we'd gone to Costco to buy a mattress topper.

Also nice to see the furniture upgrade, though I missed the round glass dining tables.

For the first time availed ourselves with the medical services and visited the 24 hour doctor in residence - WOW - this was great!

Seems the prices have actually dropped in the restaurants - be sure to follow the 2 for 1 hours at the various bars, as the drinks are still pricey. The 2 for 1 buffets are also a good value.

Great staff - always helpful. Constant cleaning of rooms and the grounds, keep this place looking good.

Clientele is mainly older but all amenities are very good at this conveniently located property. Especially good activities staff (Carla, Noe) so there is always something fun to do. We also saw a beautiful wedding going on. Not as many kids as Paradise Village but no loud drunken parties either. Short cab ride to downtown and airport. One could do much worse.

As timeshare owners, our family of four stayed at the Mayan Palace PV Marina for a week February 8th to 15th. We stayed in the main building, 3rd floor over the main reception area. The room was a 1 BR with kitchen unit, with ocean view. It had a large balcony.

The room was fine, and had most of what we needed to cook our meals. They did not have a pasta strainer however, and the pans stick!. I find the Mexican beds just fine, and my teenage daughters slept comfortably on the sofa beds. Conception, the night housekeeper was great as she prepared the sofa beds every night, and performed a turn-down service (with chocolate kisses!) During the day, Isabel did a wonderful job of cleaning the room, fixing the bed, and returning the sofa beds back to sofas. We did not need to do a thing!

Grounds are kept very clean, as is the pool area. The only complaint is that the pool was unheated. However, once in the water it was fine. The good news is that I spoke with the Manager Erika, and she confirmed that the hotel has budget approval to repair the pool heater. Could be done in a couple of months. As long as it is ready for next winter!

The beach area is also very good. I have to say that this beach is one of the calmest that I have ever experienced in PV. For the first time in years I was comfortable in wading out since the waves were very gentle. The palapas and chairs are in good shape, but by Monday, a lot of lounger reserving was going on. Vendors are not very aggressive. Cheap Charlie a vendor who has been at the same location for 38 years is very nice, and fair.

Bar drinks are pricy at 84 pesos, but they have enough happy hours at 2 for 1 that makes them reasonable. As for food, the 2 for 1 Italian Buffet on Saturday nights for 290 pesos (for two) is a good value, as is the 2 for 1 breakfasts 730-830 and 1130-1230 for 210 pesos (for two). You can also eat across the street at a couple of places, and they also have Wi Fi. The hotel Wi Fi is prohibitive at US$90 per week or so. Use the Wi Fi at one of these two restaurants, or walk to the Marina where you will find a couple of free Wi Fi spots, or other restaurants that have it.

Speaking of the Marina, its a short safe walk to the entrance, then you can stroll through the shops and vendors. There is a night market on Thursday Nights. There is an Oxxo (7-11 type) store across the street from the hotel, and also at the Marina. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk, but the Commercial Mexicana is a larger department store at Plaza Marina where you can buy food, etc. We walked their and if we were heavily loaded we would take a taxi back for 50 pesos.

As far as money exchange is concerned, there are three or so banks at the Plaza Marina at the commercial Mexicana. The only one that took travelers checks was Bancomer. 11.69 pesos to 1$CAN. You will also find a McDonalds there with Wi FI.

Mayan Palace is a great smaller resort. It is quiet, with an older demographic. There are many repeat gests, and it seems like a family.

The young activities staff do their best to arrange for games and activities during the day. They do Volleyball (both beach and pool), Aqua exercises, beading, darts, bingo, etc. They have a great gym and although it says it is only free for Owners, I am not sure if they really check if you are not.

At night, very little happens except a karaoke night. It does not have any entertainment.

Summary: We're going back next year, My parents have been coming here since the late 80's, and now I now why. Some of the same people they met back then are still coming! Erika the Manager is great (she is in line at check out to talk to the guests as they leave-great touch!). Aristeo the front desk manager is also very good. In Fact, all the staff is fantastic.

Room Tip: There are two building; One closer to the beach and pool, and one closer to the main entrance. For...

Ten of us stayed here for a week as a family. We found it to be a very nice holiday. The staff was fantastic. Noe and the two girls in activities were very nice to our children and to us. Saul was an absolute hoot as a server, always with a smile. David was one of the best bell men we have had help us. Magdalena kept our room spotless and was always smiling too. All in all, it was a great time, very relaxing, and cannot wait to get the opportunity to go back! Thanks again for everything!

Grounds are fabulous and pools amazing. Food very expensive and not very good. One grill near the beach takes the prize for good prices and good food. The rest too pricy...one hamburger no sides was $20, Timeshare presentation was stated would last 90 minutes. Held captive for 8 hours!!!! Music in the evening needs help. Management must have thought we would love a ballad singer that sang songs from the 1950's and a juggler that juggled with her feet. Really!!!! We are in Mexico!! We have moved on! Try something like The Texas Tornados Live from Austin for us. Will not be back!

Room Tip: Try for a kitchen unit.

The service from start to finish was excellent. Waitstaff (Celia, Saul, Carlos and Eduardo) were super. The Activities were fun and the pool staff were very friendly (Carmen, Tiki, Catherine, Noe). The bell persons were extremely helpful (Samuel and Carlos especially). Omar did everything to help as the Concierge. Our Members update was very understandable and easy. Sofia Ramos did one of the best we have been through. She was helped by Lynn who aided in our understanding of our benefits and contract.

This was a great vacation!

My girlfriend and I (mid 20's) and my parents (owners) stayed here for a week in a 2 bedroom suite. Checkin was very good and we were able to check into our room right away. My parents are owners and had asked for an ocean view room at checkin but were told that there were none left, which was not true. They wanted us to attend a meeting to get a better room, and to receieve discounts on excursions etc. but we declined and settled for our room that overlooked the marina, which was fine for us.

We ate out every night, at the marina or along the malecon and old town. Our resort wrist bands were noticed frequently by timeshare sharks in town and they constantly bugged us to attend more presentations so we cut them off and did not wear a wristband at all. The staff did not seem to notice, so don't wear your wristband.

The hotel staff and event staff were amazing. Everyone was polite and friendly, and remembered your name. The waiters were attentive and quick with the drink orders, and the activites staff did their best to make the pool area a lively attraction, although the majority of the guests were 60 years +. Overall this was an enjoyable experience and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: If you really want an ocean view, prepare to go to a timeshare meeting.
