My husband and I got married on the beach at the Mayan Palace and it was absolutely gorgeous! The staff was great, the room was clean and overall service at the hotel was 5 star. Other incredible features of this hotel are: the pool area is very large and accommodating, food at the hotel is good, staff is helpful, there is security on the premises at all times and there is immediate transportation outside of the hotel doors via a taxi or bus. I would highly recommend taking a bus to and from downtown since it is only about 70 cents for one person both ways and taxi drivers tend to make-up their own prices. There is also a small marina within walking distance from the hotel (approx. 15 min) with food, boating and bars. Overall, the vacation in Puerto Vallarta was amazing and we did not feel unsafe at any point in time so don't believe everything you read. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to relax or wanting to explore Mexico!

As other reviewers had mentioned, after check in you do get sent to another person that offers for you to do a presentation for a room upgrade and a free tour (we did zip lining). We agreed to the presentation because we did want the upgrade and and the free tour and at this point we knew how to handle the people at the presentations. Overall, the room was great and cleaned perfectly everyday. The view was fabulous and the beach was clean and warm with lots of seats and umbrellas to hang out under. We did eat at the buffet restaurant for the two for one hours both for dinner and breakfast. It was a great deal and the food was probably the best I've had for a buffet. My only gripe is that we got a room with two double beds and ended up having to sleep in seperate beds because the one bed was too small. Other than that I would definitely come back again.

As for the whole timeshare thing, don't let it scare you. If you have been to Puerto Vallarta before you know that this won't be the only place that you will be hasseled to do a presentation for a timeshare. If you hold out long enough, the gifts are worth it (i.e. free tours, boat parties, zip lining, free breakfast, money etc.). You just need to have patience and know to say no when you actually go to a presentation. We went to two presentations that took a total of maybe 4 hours of our trip, but we got 3 free activities, room upgrade, and round trip transportation to/from airport.

I was fortunate enough to stay at the Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The resort was fantastic! We were upgraded to the Grand Mayan rooms and they are so nice. We had a kitchen wonderful bedroom suite with living area. The hotel was within walking to the beach area. They have VERY nice pools around the resort my favorite being the huge infinity pool on the beach.
I had only 2 complaints with this resort: the first, they would not give us a ride to the resort entrance so we could take bus to downtown Puerto Vallarta, we had to walk both ways. Second, they would not exchange peso/dollars.
Overall, the food, views, swimming, staff and the room was fantastic and I would recommend staying at the Mayan Palace to anyone vacationing romantically or with their families.

We booked a 1 br at mayan palace, I had read reviews before we went. I called the resort weeks before and asked for a room above the 3rd floor and ocean view. AT 3pm upon check- in, the room wasn't ready and she couldn't even tell me where the rm was. All I asked for, was in their computer, but they still gave me 1st floor corner rm parkinglot view. This was one of the worst rooms in the place they said, but that's what RCI books you "The worst room in someone elses resort". SO the only way to upgrade was to do timeshare presentation. We did it to get room 2467 which was one of the 4 best rooms in the place. Beside all the timeshare and rci lies, the place was real nice. The maid service was excellent as well as the pool waiters (look for jose he is awsome). Great vacation but check-in nightmare.

Room Tip: All the odd number rooms have a view of pool or ocean. The even number rooms are marina veiw or park...

Amazing room with hot tub spa on patio overlooking the ocean. The water was warm when we went in October. Will definitely go again. Loved the "river" we floated on in inner tubes around the resort. Fun!

Stayed here during the off season in mid July. We were probably the only Americans there. Booked through the Armed Forces Vacation Club at $249 for the whole week. This really offset the expensive tours, food and drink we encountered everywhere else in PV. Nothing wrong with the hotel, we were offered an upgraded room and free tours upon arrival but we (smarty) declined. We were not bothered by the hotel staff again on this issue. All in all the staff was friendly and we would stay here again. Beds are ok, cleanliness is very good. Take advantage of the spa. We both got massages right by the beach which was relaxing in its own right.

We are staying at the Mayan Palace hotel in Puerto Vallarta right now. Upon arrival last Saturday, right after checking in, we were directed to a hostess to get more information. It turned out the "hostess" was a timeshare-seller who tried to trick us into a time-share tour sales event. When we declined she first said it was part of the program to only "get more information and it would only last for 60 minutes". When we still didn't want to go she lied and said it was a clausule in our staying-contract. Now every time we pass the timeshare sales desk in the lobby of the hotel they bother us. This morning they even called to our room in the morning to bother us. We even send a written complaint to the hotel manager, but it didn't help. They just enforced with one more sales person to bully us. Because of the timeshare sellers WE DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel to others and we WILL NOT RETURN to this hotel.
