Wow, we had a great time in Puerto Vallarta staying at the Villa Premiere. I selected this hotel based on reviews on TA (more on that below) and my girlfriend and I had a great time.

We travelled the first week of September and the weather was as expected; some afternoon thunderstorms but they quickly passed and it was nice to get some cool air blowing in, anyway. This hotel is owned by the same group as the Buenaventura next door, though you wouldn't really know it unless you were told. The site is small, relatively secluded (it's at the end of a section of public beach, against a pier) and the staff seem to be on the upper end of the talent pool in the area.

You do indeed get a complimentary glass of champagne and massage on arrival, and the staff were very happy to see us. Everything with our reservation was in order and the room is as shown on the web site; a bit spartan and maybe a little dated, but clean and well-apportioned.

We did the all-inclusive plan ("TI" in spanish) and it was a great option for us not to have to worry about drinks costs and the like. Though I don't think it's expected we did tip a few bucks on each purchase, a little more at dinner. In conversations with the staff it seems they get paid well for the market but still below what you'd expect, so I felt good paying for decent service.

The younger wait staff seem more hungry for the work (and tips) and their service is faster. In the three restaurants and the pool bar, don't expect servicio rapido. We never waited an inordinate amount of time for food, but it's slower than you'd expect stateside. Just be sure not to wait until you're starving.

If you're on the all-inclusive plan the booze is mid-range and not bad; the bartenders seem willing to whip up more interesting concoctions if you're feeling adventurous. The swim-up bar is fun and we met a lot of couples there (mostly on honeymoons) though we ran into a handful of other younger (20-something) unmarried couples, too.

Never had a problem getting a chair by the pool, and people seem pretty good about not hogging a chair if they're not using it. We didn't really hit up the day beds but they are fewer in number so you might want to head out early and grab one if that's your thing.

If you have trouble saying a polite "no," practice before going to Mexico; as noted by others the beaches are public and there are people selling all kinds of knick-knacks. They will walk right up to the pool bar and try to get your attention; just "no, gracias" and they'll skedaddle. It's just a little painful to watch the one person who doesn't have the heart to say no.

As for the "vacation club"/timeshare piece, we didn't get hit up at all, though there is a relatively prominent office for selling them, and there were plenty of people in there. Not sure if we didn't fit their sales profile (good guess, guys...) or they just aren't being as aggressive, but it was no biggie. Again, just learn to say no.

Only a few small nags: The food is okay, sometimes good, but not particularly great. The international-fare restaurant tried to do Italian one night and that was the lowest point. Edible, just not that good. The food is probably overpriced if you pay a la carte but if you're all-inclusive, not a deal breaker.

Also, just because it's all-inclusive doesn't mean you don't get a check; since there are european-plan guests you have to give your room number a lot, and you'll get a folio to tab out. On one or two occasions the all-inclusive didn't kick in for whatever reason and I had to point it out. (In other words, your total should almost always be -0-.)

One last note - the timeshare folks are super-duper aggressive at the airport, and it's unlike anything I've seen in my international travels. The companies pay so much that they literally get to run the gauntlet on all incoming passengers. Just give them a firm "no" (see a trend, here?) and go straight through until you see daylight. I will admit we got briefly waylayed until we realized THESE were in fact the people everyone warned us about.

Room Tip: The jacuzzis aren't anything special, and other guests indicated the outdoor bathtubs weren't, either. Get a room on an upper floor and save money from other upgrades to spend on excursions.

My husband and I just returned home from Puerto Vallarta. This is our second stay at the Villa Premiere Resort & Spa. We have been going to Puerto Vallarta for 30 years and found this resort to be the BEST OF THE BEST! We love the location, friendly and professional staff, excellent food and wonderful amenities. We stayed in the Spa Suite which was large, comfortable and the bed was heavenly. The food is 5 star quality, the service is very professional, warm and friendly. We had the couples spa treatments and absolutely LOVED IT! I recommend the Villa Premiere Resort & Spa to anyone who doesn't want to be around kids, wants to kick back and relax and most importantly be treated with 5 star treatment. This place in número uno on our list.

My wife and I have been guests at the Villa Premiere in Puerto Vallarta many times over the last few years. The service really is adults only and they are very protective of the guests. It is nice to sit around the pool and not hear screaming children or employees yelling for volleyball in the pool. The music is soft and adult, the service is great and the food is wonderful. You get the treatment from the moment you arrive with a glass of champagne and a massage to ease the tension of flying. There are many wonderful hotels in Puerto Vallarta but this one is one of the best. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: all rooms are good

We stayed with Villa Premier for one week. The most important thing for us was that this hotel is not located in the thick of the "Resort Area" which is primarily Puerto Vallarta north and Nuevo Vallarta. Villa Premier is located on the beach, in an active part of town - plenty of locals and street vendors (some a little aggressive) but best of all we could safely walk to the boardwalk or "Malecon" any time we wanted for people-watching, street vendors, shopping and performing artists. When we felt the need for seclusion, we would retreat to the comfort of the Villa Premier with it's beautiful beach, pool and excellent restaurants. The food was incredible (if a bit pricey), but every meal we had was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. For our excursions, we could take a short taxi ride to the pier for about 50 pesos (5$). The staff was warm and helpful. Everyone's English was excellent. Our room was small, but very pretty, and we could sit on the deck and watch the ocean and the sunset.

Room Tip: We were on the 7th (top) floor - Beautiful views can be had from any room above the third floor. It was quiet and restful, with a small deck for watching the sunset

Great location and beautiful views from the 7th floor or the pool/beach area. The location is (15 min) walking distance to the Malecon, Plaza and Rio Cuale. The staff from the front desk, waiters and housekeeping were all exceptional and the food-----cant say enough about how delicious everything from breakfast to the gourmet meals for dinner and everything in between. The best food we have ever had at an all inclusive hotel. The hotel is showing a little wear and tear but would stay here again.
