Walking this boardwalk is a must if you visit Puerto Vallarta. It runs along the ocean with stores and restaurants on the other side. My husband and 2 young kids feel safe while walking this boardwalk during light hours and enjoy looking at the cities visual attractions along the way and visiting the market and eating. We have been visiting PVR for over a decade so we have appreciated the boardwalk being improved the last few years with new wider walkways with beautiful rock details.

The Malecon has been renewed and improved and is a lovely walk and PV experience. Wear modest clothing so you can enter one of the most beautiful cathedrals with gorgeous lacy crown which is one block up the Malecon, and if you come at 6 PM on Thursday or Sunday nights you can see the dancers, and sometimes see us joining the dancers, doing “Dancon” — which is the local slow dance to a live band in the town square. There are always entertainers around and people selling wonderful pastries, special tacos, as well as treats for the kids and toys and balloons. There is a small amphitheater by the four arches at the sea wall, and they often have entertainers who draw a crowd. We have never found that worth waiting for. It is usually slow and not very entertaining, but the price is right...always free. There are millions of shops and vendors, all vying for your attention. Enjoy all PV has to offer, including the bargaining and the fabulous tequila!

The Malecon sure has changed. It is so much wider wnd you have easier access from the Malecon to the restaurants and stores. What a fantastic improvement. We also loved the benches where you could rest for a bit.

If you are travelling into downtown Puerto Vallarta, then the Malecon is a must to visit. Beautiful sculptures line the boardwalk. The picturesque waters from the bay are a perfect backdrop. It is a lovely walk at any time of the day. We started our day off walking the boardwalk from one end to the other and then made the return trip during the sunset. Would highly recommend - just make sure to take your time.

I’m not sure where they came up with “Romantic Zone” but it is a shopping zone and fun to walk along and look at the beautiful bronze statues along the way. Many restaurants and shops to chose from as you pass from one hawker selling time shares to the next selling tours. To bad that so many individuals are harassing you as you try to have somewhat of a “Romantic” walk, but it’s México and you just need to keep walking.
