If you want to capture a bit of the local flavor, stroll the Malecon. The evening we were there, a group of elementary school musicians were performing an open air concert - delightful! The sunset was spectacular, and there were Mexican families enjoying a night out with their families, eating at small food stands, and watching street performers.

Here you have a great boardwalk with the Bay of Banderas on one side, a constant refreshing breeze, shops, bars, and restaurants all along on the other side of the pedestrians-only street, and interesting sculptures scattered here and there in the decor.

This has to figure high on your "To Do" list while in Puerto Vallarta. Figure on spending a relaxed afternoon and perhaps the evening also to take in the different activities and kiosks that show up after sunset.

Beware of the ingenious and devious ways of "Time Share" vendors that line the shops all along the boardwalk. If someone tries very hard to engage you in a conversation, there is a good chance there is a timeshare angle coming up... However, they won't bother you further and may actually joke about it if you decline politely and move along your way

Main irritation was the amount of hagglers trying to get you into their bar or their shops. Nice way to see some of the old town though

It is a good place to buy gifts in a good price. You have to learn to drop at least 25% from the prices.
Also many restaurants, bars and nightclubs

The Malecon is so nice since they added on to it. The statues are amazing. The sand sculptures, mimes and everything else they have down there are truly remarkable. Its nice being able to walk from one end all the way to the other end of old town. There is always something going on there.
