and great food to boot. This gem is located up the Rio Cualle a bit, in the Buenos Aries neighborhood, right on the river. A lovely friend took me to this absolutely delightful place. He had Marlin Enchiladas and I hd Pescado Tacos and both were excellent. We sat at a table right beside the river. The service was wonderful and the entire experience could not have been better. After our meal we got more drinks and just enjoyed the beautiful cool refreshing sound of the river as it danced among the rock on it's course to the Pacific. This is the way to spend a warm afternoon in Puerto Vallarta.

“Hidden gem on the River Cuale”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

When we locals want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we head for lunch under a bridge.....yes, under a bridge. Just past the colonia Buenos Aires, nestled under the Paso Ancho Bridge is the most delightful and private piece if Paradise you can imagine. The restaurant goes from under the palapas with it's colorful macaws to an island in the middle of the river. The scenery is beautiful and wild but the food is even better. My favorite time after time is the Talpa style quesadillas; juicy steak bits over wonderful asadero cheese. My girlfriends love the shrimp in an avocado salad as healthy and tasty as can be. The service is great as run by a lovely family, that makes one feel special and at home every time we visit. A cool and refreshing change from the city, and wonderful food awaits, walking distance from the libramiento!

Our entire party felt like this was the hidden gem of Puerto Vallarta.

The atmosphere is very romantic -- try to eat along the river if you can. Tables lit by candlelight, dipping your toes in the water, etc. etc. The service was fantastic - our waitress spoke impeccable english and answered all of our questions about the menu, and offered great suggestions (try the seafood salad! I'll say it again...try. the. seafood. salad.) The quality of food was very fresh, and delicious. As always, stick with seafood if you can -- its hard to go wrong with anything that fresh!

And, if you dare...try the Coco Loco. You won't regret it, and you'll be thankful for a taxi on the way home.

We were very disappointed in both atmosphere and food. Definitely not worth trip or cost. There are so many more beautiful places to dine in PV and we are not gourmet types. Try River Cafe, Le Bistro and La Palapa for a beautiful setting and Coco Tropical and Daquari Dick's for sunset dining and good food. Also langostino's for breakfast on the beach. We have been going to PV for 25 years and Cuale Tropical was this year's adventure but we will not return.

I was in Mexico for my wedding and wanted a place to go with my new bride and our two closest friends. I had read about Cuale Paradise the year before but had not had the chance to visit yet. We took the short cab ride from downtown to the restaurant. The location is even more beautiful than the pictures I had seen. We sat at a table on an island in the middle of the river. Our hostess was the daughter of the owners. She was very friendly. We ordered drinks and a quesadilla for an appetizer. The beer came right away and the quesadilla was right behind it. We took our time, sipping on the beers and nibbling on the quesadilla, as nobody was in a hurry to leave this beautiful location. We ordered our meals as soon as we finished the appetizer. My wife's coconut shrimp were the size of the palm of her hand. My fajitas were delicious. The other couple with us had lobster and mahi mahi. The lobster consisted of three huge portions. When we finished we were all stuffed. But I had heard about the Spanish coffee and convinced the ladies to order it. They were treated to a nice display of fire and artistry as our waiter prepared the dessert. Our meal was not super cheap, totalling about $150 for the four of us, but considering how much we drank and what we had to eat, it seems very reasonable. It was a fantastic evening.
