“Secrets is nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

The "all you can" experience is an interesting concept. Staff, room, overall visual experience and food were outstanding. Unfortunately, the elevators were out of commission, the room smelled of cleaning chemicals, alcoholic drinks had the bottle of booze "waved" over the top of the glass but not much booze ended up in the drink. Beer, wine, or straight shots are the only way to go if you want a REAL drink. The 4 hr. sales presentation was interesting, and low pressure. All questions and concerns were answered, and the sales rep was extremely polite and easy to speak with. Pools were clean, towel service wonderful and overall experience very good. Personally, my half day stay didn't "throw me to the ground" and make me write bad checks. Seems sometimes when we experience what it should be like we rate it as excellent. Secrets could do more to, "spoil" the guests with extras...small surprises....fresh flowers, chocolates on the pillow, a bottle of champagne the day BEFORE leaving, not just a glass upon arrival. I also had a very long wait time upon arriving before meeting three different people to get information and listening to the "time Share" presentation. Another feature many overlook is the Security of the entire property. It is truly outstanding. Now to import some beach sand from the Caribbean and "I'm IN".

Overall...This was an amazing vacation. From the moment we drove up to the resort to the moment we left we were delighted with the secrets experience. You are relieved of your bags and greeted with champagne. We found that all staff were extremely friendly from beginning to end. The resort is clean and beautiful and the experience is nothing short of amazing.

Tipping...While we tipped during our stay, we found that service was friendly regardless of tipping or not. We thought it was important to tip because the staff are so friendly and worked hard to make the experience enjoyable. I noticed that some reviewers said staff were only friendly if you tipped them. That was not our experience...we found that the majority of the staff was so very friendly regardless of tipping.

The room...The room was AMAZING. We had an ocean view room. I notice that people commented on the dogs and roosters making noise in the morning. While we did indeed hear the roosters and dogs in the morning, it was not a nuisance. In fact, we could barely hear them. We could however hear the beautiful crash of the ocean waves which was incredible. I can see how for light sleepers the roosters and dogs would be annoying. I would recommend an ocean view on a higher floor to avoid the noise.

Turndown Service...Our turndown service was reliable and the woman who came each day (around 7ish) was the nicest person in the world...she was delightful and we always looked forward to seeing her.

The Tours...We did the rhythms tour and the tropical city tour... both were nice. Rhythms is amazing with a beautiful dinner beforehand, and it was great to do the tropical tour and see more of the city.

The Timeshare breakfast and presentation (they say it is NOT a timeshare)...We did sit through the 90min breakfast and talk to hear about the unlimited vacation package. They did apply pressure, but we were clear that we did not want to buy into the timeshare. For our time, we got the tropical tour for free and paid a minimal cost for the Rhythms tour. We did meet a couple who had previously purchased the unlimited vacation package and they seemed happy with it...it just was not for us.

Priority Club...We upgraded to the priority club and we found all staff to be friendly and pleasant at all times. There was always a food spread, which we dabbled from a few times and the staff at the bar are amazing.

Ocean and Pool...The waves were strong in the ocean during our stay, so we spent a lot of time in the pools which was pleasant. There are vendors on the beach trying to sell you stuff which can get annoying, but it was manageable.

The food...the food was good all around. Not amazing, but solidly good.

Spa...We opted for massages on massage row. Our favorite spot was to the left out of the Secrets resort, the 2nd spot on the left hand side. We had Sara and Veve and they were AMAZING!!! The best massage E.V.E.R!!!! And...$25USD/per person or $300 pesos per person. AMAZING.

Entertainment...The entertainment staff are friendly and fun. There is a rainy day schedule of events as well which is nice. It's true, you have to pick and choose what activities you will like. There are sports, spanish lessons, water sports and shows. We went to some of the shows...and some were really fun and others just ok. The great thing is if there is nothing you want to do at the resort there are plenty of things to do around town.

Shopping...BARGAIN ALWAYS...some of the prices start off ridiculously high...know what you are willing to pay (being reasonable of course) and stick to your guns...

Really and truly a great experience. We would definitely go back!!! Our experience with secrets was an A+...Enjoy your trip!!!!

Room Tip: Ocean view higher off the ground

We love the hotel, it is gorgeous, beautiful, modern and lots of options to eat. The only thing that really BOTHER US A LOT, was a sells person as soon as we got to the hotel. They made us wait 2 hours for our room, and for those 2 hours, we had a guy convincing us to go to a meeting to listen great options to buy vacations. ANNOYING as hell, it was impossible to say no. We went trying to escape from meetings, schedule, sales, work. etc, and as soon as we get there we had to deal with this. Not pleasant at all.

Room Tip: DO NOT TAKE A ROOM on the same floor as lobby. They offer those as "the best ones" but it...

Dear Monicaiza,

A sincere apology for the nuisance of the UVC representative. The hounding was unprofessional on their part and we are grateful that it did not tarnish your overall sentiment of the resort. We encourage any guests who experience any of the like please approach the Concierge or Reception desk and make this known. Our guests enjoyment of our beautiful Resort is a priority to us. We are thrilled that you enjoyed our restaurants, facilities and enjoyed your suite. It was an honor having you and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you in the near future to Secrets Vallarta Bay.

Sincerely,

Secrets was amazing and exceeded all of our expectations. The staff was super accommodating always making sure that every need was taken care. Our first room was a bit noisy the first night so we mentioned it to the concierge and she gave us another room down the hall that was perfect. When we arrived there was a warm bubble bath waiting for us. The food was excellent at every meal and we never had to wait to get into any of the restaurants. At night you can go to the Now side and eat at any of the restaurants there. The rooms were amazing. The bed was super comfy. A huge shower with a rain fall Shower over head and another shower head on the side. It's also located about a 10-15 minute walk from downtown. One of the closest resorts to downtown. It was also really nice to have adults only for our honeymoon. We don't party much so we were worried about crazy people, but nobody was getting crazy, but people were definitely having a good time! One of the best vacations we've had. Highly recommend going to Secrets Vallarta Bay.

All-inclusive resorts can be iffy, but the Now Amber/Secrets is a real gem. These are really two hotels on one property, with the Secrets side adults-only. The only hiccup here was an overly assertive beach security guard who tried to keep us from entering the Secrets beach since we were Now guests. The trick here is to enter the Secrets beach through the Secrets lobby, or otherwise be stuck in a kids playground on the Now side. The food here is top-rate with a great selection of restaurants all offering superb service. The rooms are very contemporary and spacious and all have ocean views. Nothing better than watching the evening lightning show from one of the open-air bars. All-around excellent choice with great packages through Apple Vacations. One of closest hotels to airport, and a quick cab ride to town.

It was probably from the moment we arrived and were greeted with a cool towel and a glass of champagne that I knew that this place was going to be special. Walking through the lobby and being blown away by the views of the pools and beach. It really is breathtaking! Every member of the staff that we encountered was warm and friendly, the service was impeccable! Special mention would be for Ana Santos who took time out to show my girlfriend and I the different rooms which were all stunning.

This is an all inclusive hotel with some amazing restaurants.... my favourite was definitely the French restaurant Bordeaux with the Mexican restaurant coming a close second.
I could go on and on about how great Secrets is but really all I can say is that I cannot wait to come back!

HUGE recommendation on this fabulous hotel! :-)

My wife said she felt like she was in Beverly Hills! From the second you enter the lobby, your senses will hit overdrive. The view will stun you, the workmanship and architecture will completely impress you.

But for me, it's the details that count most. To me, the details reveal where their heart is.

My favorite "detail", I saw an advertisement for a hotel app that allows all sorts of typical magic. You can book reservations, find out about daily activities, all types of very useful stuff when trying to maximize your stay. But my favorite member of the entire hotel staff works tirelessly behind the scenes on their online endeavors. Her name is Violeta, I met her when I asked for help w the app. You see, their app also allowed us to save hundreds off the international smart phone AT&T plan that we used ( lol ) to get when we traveled abroad. Their app does all that for you, at no cost. She is the most gracious, patient person I think I ever met. And as far as the " behind the scenes" part, she personally, and very graciously met w us several times to help w what turned out to be phone setting issues. Her kindness was the biggest detail of all.

So we want to personally thank Violeta, and the entire staff at Secrets. You all have earned our highest and most sincere recommendation!

Happily posted by Pete and Mair, from Denver, CO
