To sum it up, this place exceeded all of my expectations. We stayed in a preferred club junior swim out suite; we looked at the two room suites but didn't see the need in paying the extra money for an additional room with an extra TV. The room was clean, kept cool by the AC and extremely comfortable. Two person shower and double sinks made it even more accommodating. Preferred club was very nice but I wouldn't break the bank to upgrade since you don't spend that much time in the room; there are bars and food everywhere, at any time and it's all great. The food; for some reason there were a handful of bad food reviews. Not my experience AT ALL. I'm not a food snob and I understand what you're going to get at an all-inclusive resort - fairly small portions. On average, I ordered 2 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts at each meal. I chose to order them all at once so dinner wasn't drawn out. The food was phenomenal and the service was prompt. Oceanaire was my wife’s favorite restaurant so we ate their quite frequently. Wasn't the full dress code so it was a little more comfortable; though the dress code really isn't that bad in my opinion. I preferred Himitsu; the Japanese steak house. Pretty good (but limited) sushi menu and great Hibachi. Room service, this is what killed me from other reviews. You have to manage expectations. If you want a filet, veal or some other gourmet meal, don't order room service. If you want a great club sandwich (yeah, it was pretty damn good), buffalo wings, nachos, salads or a cheeseburger, then you stay in and pick up the phone. The menu wasn't too limited in my opinion and it was all good. I had room service 4 times I think and it was always good. The barefoot grill is simply buffet food out by the pool and it was good. I wasn’t a fan of the pizza but the other hot dishes were all great. Remember, expectations. Buffet food by the pool. (The food may have been just ok; for some reason it seemed to get better as I drank…… ) The breakfast food was extremely good. It’s buffet style with cook to order eggs/omelets and plenty of fruits and pastry’s, as well as traditional breakfast foods. The preferred club offered hors devours and they were all pretty good. Overall, the food gets an A+ from me. Drinks; there’s a pretty solid selection of alcohol so if you have a particular taste don’t worry; they probably have it. Plenty of local beer to choose from and my wife loved the frozen drink selection. As you know, tips are included in the price, but I brought $100 worth of singles and tipped pretty regularly; I think I spent $60 on tips between bartenders, poolside waiters and dinner waiters. It gets you better service around the pool and I think it’s the right thing to do. To each his own though. The facilities were great, the gym had a good selection of weights and cardio equipment; definitely enough to maintain during a vacation. The tennis court was very nice; we played almost every day (we never played prior to the trip) just to get some exercise. The spa was extremely nice; no shock that it was pricey. We did one day of the spa just to check it out; all the other days we walked right outside the property and got massages there for $30 ($25+5 tip). It was very clean, very safe and very good masseuses and it was literally 50 ft outside the gate. The pools were all great; absolutely no complaints whatsoever. The beach vendors will hound you down on the beach; however I only went down there to play volleyball with a bunch of other guests. They didn’t bother us once we started playing. All of the staff were extremely courteous at all times and very accommodating. The only downside to the entire trip was Amstar; this was the service I booked transportation through to and from the airport. They’re way overpriced and will not come through on anything promised. My advice is take a cab; $16 for a round trip.
In response to specific negatives mentioned in other reviews; the food was great, we heard a rooster but he didn’t bother our sleep, the minibar was limited but it was replenished daily (and they’ll put whatever you want in there if you ask) and the kids over at the Now resort did not bother us a bit. We will definitely see this resort again at some point in the future. This place gets a huge recommendation from me and my wife.
