“A Great Alternative to Dining Out or Cooking In”
Reviewed March 29, 2012

When you are a long term resident of PV (or even just here for a couple of weeks) there are nights you just don't feel like cooking for yourself or going out to a restaurant. A wonderful alternative is The Leek and Thistle Pie Company. Mark Hughes is the chef/owner and is a great guy. He's a professional chef and a British expat and he offers a line of traditional English Meat Pies, plus quiches, plus a wide variety of dessert pies. We always start our time in PV by emailing Mark ahead of time and getting an order for the freezer when we arrive. Nothing could be more convenient than pulling out a couple of meat pies (all are individual serving size), reheating them, adding some vegetables and a salad and you have a fine meal. We particularly like the Beef and Guinness, the Thai Chicken Curry as well as, actually we like them all. Mark's fruit dessert pies ranging from apple to peach to mixed berry and others are all great and a nice way to end a meal. Mark has a retail store that is easy to find and a 5 minute walk from Costco. Drop by and visit and you might be lucky enough to get a taste of some new creation that Mark is trying. Check out Mark's full selection of offerings at his website at www.leekandthistle.com
Also, Mark sells his pies every Saturday at the Old Town Farmers Market in the Paradise Community Centre on Pulpito. Stop by and say hi and pick up a few pies and you won't be disappointed in the least. Mark has a great motto; 'Keep Calm and Eat More Pies'. Works for me!

“WOWAWEEEEA ! These Pies ARE Sooooo tasty !”
Reviewed January 31, 2012

Went on a fantastic holiday to purto vallarta , dont get me wrong we ate well at the hotel and restaurants , but nothing compared to our pie experience at the Leek and Thistle . What a find! The tastiest pies you will ever bite into , the fillings are top class and the pastry is divine . I got chatting to the tall and handsome (in a ruggid kind of way) young scottish entrepeneur who founded the business , great guy . He told me that his culinary inspiration came from some of the great chefs of our time ; Roux , Blanc , Rhodes , Aunt Bessie (hehe he s got a great sense of humour) , also a profound influence is 2 young men he went to catering college with , who taught him a few tricks ! Well the proof is in the pudding excuse the pun , and all i will say is PLEAAAASE go and sample them for yourself , i promise you wont regret it . Gourmet food at fab prices . mmmmn hope they open one here in lancaster one day . ya never know !

“The best tarts!!”
Reviewed January 13, 2012

For me, it was purchasing their products from their stand at the Saturday Market Co-op - located in the city's south side, at the Paradise Community Center, Pulpito 127 - Saturdays, 10am - 2pm.

A very popular stand with the customers at this market, and each time I went (every Saturday during December '11), a line-up formed at the stand as soon the market opened (and especially so on the Saturdays before Christmas and New Years).

I purchased tarts for our Christmas 'and' New Years dinners, and wow, were they tasty-good!! For Christmas, it was an assorted-fruits tart (30 pesos/ea), very 'mince-meat-like' in texture and flavour, but having absolutely no meat or meat-suet. For New Years dinner, it was the "ye olde English" tarts (40 pesos/ea), another fruit combination, with wonderful flavour.

Light-textured pastries, with very tasty fillings -- served up by friendly, very knowledgeable service -- more please!!

“Best Meat and Guiness pie in Mexico”
Reviewed December 8, 2011

A little out of the way place that makes pies in the British style. Several pies and quiches. Steak and Kidney pie, Chicken and mushroom, the Frenchie. Eat in or take out. they even deliver to your condo. great people with a great attitude. Pies are priced right.
