I will be returning to Sunset Plaza! This by far has been my favorite hotel in my four visits to Puerto Vallarta! The room with the full kitchen is absolutely beautiful! The room is large, and clean, and beautiful, I do not have one negative thing to say!

Javier worked his tail off for us. Our luggage was lost in Dallas, and Javier was on top of calling the airlines to see when we could expect it.

Resort is very nice. Very clean large rooms. Great adult pool with bar server's who pass by quite often.
Down side, check-in procedures needs work. We sat and waited quite a long time then could not get into our room for close to 4 hours. It was after 5:30 before we ever got our room and that was after countless phone calls to the front desk.
Be sure to grab a pool towel the night before. They really frown on taking the room towels down and if you want a morning soak in the one working hot tub get a towel the night before.
Check over your exit bill for your room charges, some were added to our bill that weren't ours.
With all that being said though it is a beautiful property and the staff if very friendly. Very clean and very well maintained.

Just returned from an excellent trip to this resort. The hotel is run extremely well, overall. It's clean, comfortable and the staff at all levels are friendly, attentive and accommodating. This trip far exceeded other all-inclusive trips I've been on in a number of areas.

Food:
First and foremost, the food was significantly better than what I'd previously experienced at other resorts. The meals are prepared to order and the menu is extensive for each meal. I especially loved the lunch options. Dinner at the main restaurant was good as well, and the menu changed daily. I especially enjoyed the nights when the dinner menu was Mexican. We ate at the Italian restaurant once and it was fine, but nothing mind-blowing. They also had a bbq on a couple of nights with tables out by the pool, overlooking the ocean. Be advised you have to reserve at spot at that in advance (we missed the first bbq night because of that), and I'd highly recommend that you do as I believe that was my favourite dinner of the trip.

There's also a great snack menu that you can order from while sitting by the pool/on the beach and they'll bring it right to you.

Facilities:
We started out in a standard room which was more than adequate - small but clean and comfortable with a lovely balcony. On our last two nights the hotel was less busy and we were upgraded to a suite. Now, THAT was luxury! If we go back, we'd likely opt to pay for the upgrade as it was a really fantastic room for not a lot more money.

The pools were lovely and the poolside never too busy. Yes people put towels out on coveted spots first thing, but there was always more space. If we were ever lacking a comfortable spot the staff would bring out more chairs and umbrellas for us.

The beach itself is small and the water is quite rough, so we didn't spend much time swimming in the ocean. What's nice, however, is that you can hear the ocean from everywhere on the resort, including in the hotel rooms.

The gym is small and the equipment isn't fantastic, but it's adequate for a vacation week.

Staff:
The staff were great. Special thanks to Luis, Mariano and Jorge for their extremely attentive service. We tried to tip after most meals and poolside orders but if we didn't have any cash handy that never impacted on service.

Having read a bunch of earlier reviews before booking this hotel, it was clear on arrival that management reads the reviews and is continually trying to improve things as they go. For example, we had read that you lose your all-inclusive bracelet upon checkout at noon on your last day. Since we weren't leaving until 6pm, we were very pleased to learn that we could keep our bracelets for the afternoon, and then have access to a hospitality suite to shower and change before our flight back.

Activities:
This is definitely a quiet resort. That was what we were looking for and what we got. There aren't many activities during the day or in the evening, but the town of Puerto Vallarta is a quick 10 minute bus ride away and the buses come every few minutes.

All in all, very impressed with our stay and wish we were back in the sun rather than home in the cold!

We stayed for a couple nights, after a week spent at a time share, and were very happy at the Sunset, which is an already nice, newly-renovated hotel made nicer by its staff.
We ate only once on site at the pool, but saw a fairly even mix between non and all-inclusive bracelets. The food we had was very good.
We were told immediately at check-in that the hotel was overbooked for our first night because of a mostly week-to-week changeover (we arrived Friday). So our class room wasn't available for night one, but we were also immediately offered several comp upgrade-options to choose from in lieu. We took the suite for the second night and it was great, and on a return trip to this hotel, I'd choose the suite in the first instance. Rooms are spacious as are the balconies and both very nicely furnished and all are ocean-view so the sunsets are spectacular and comfortably viewed from inside or out.
Pool area is on the smaller side, but there are raised, large, quieter areas built on top of the pool restaurant and over looking the pools and this area has three large hot tubs and lounge chairs.
We took in an ocean-front 80-minute couples massage at just under $200, from the on-site Zen Set Spa and got the 80 minutes and more. My concerns are that at some hotels the 80 minutes includes the walk and prep, but not here and it was well worth the money. The beach is small and ocean was turbulent which made swimming hazardous, but added to the enjoyment of the massages.
It's a 40-minute, mostly-enjoyable and fairly-easy walk along the beach to the Malecon. A couple derelict buildings along the way were the downside to walking, but you pass very nice and larger hotels - Sheraton; Secrets; DOW and they are next door to the derelicts; so...
Good restaurants are mostly a short cab ride away or in town. The Mariscos Cueton Seafood Restaurant was recommended by hotel staff and taxi drivers (we had a pocket full of business cards after only one day with their names on them :-) so ate there once and really enjoyed it. It`s only for seafood, has been there for 25 years, but it is clean and full of tourists, and a bit off the main drag behind the soccer stadium across from the Sheraton, so it was suggested that we cab it down to find it and then return by foot to walk off dinner. It took a little less than a half hour to walk back and no snow on the side walks made it easy, but the second margaritas is free, and there is a busy street to cross by walking.
Special thanks to Angel; Javier; Hazael; Beatriz; and the ladies from the Zen Set Spa.

Room Tip: All the rooms are ocean-view. If you are there for a week and like space or on the European Plan and want to cook some meals at home choose a suite.

This was our third visit to SP and again they did not fail in exceeding our expectations. The location, food, rooms and staff is what keeps us repeat customers. The quality of the food and presentation is something we love and agian this year it was great. The pool is warm and the pool service is perfect. I wanted to mention a few stand out staff but this year I will comment on the ones we do not interact every day with such as the Chef's, cooks, room attendants, plant maintenance and pool maintenance staff whom also provide superior service.

Javier Vergara, Resort Manager and his staff should be very proud of the service and commitment to customer service they provide for you always feel comfortable and pampered.

I recommend this to Trip Advisor readers but more importantly to my Family and friends whom always thank me for pointing them in the right direction.

Great Job and see you again for our fourth visit.

Room Tip: They all have great views but 7th floor and above are better.
