“Great Hidden Spot!”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

My girlfriend and I love going to Alaskas! The food and drinks are always cheap. All the locals come and gather here to have a good time with friends. The owner Roger is a blast and makes the best steak in Vallarta!!! His dinner specials are always good and under $10. Great atmoshphere and home cookin food at Alaskas Diner!

“Ex-Pat Hangout, Diner and Dive... Excellent Value, Good Food”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

This is not the Ritz Carlton, and nowhere will you find a Michelin rated chef, but if Guy Fieri showed up in Puerto Vallarta this would definitely be a stop for his TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. This Hole in the Wall restaurant is run old school by an Ex Pat by the name of Roger... Not only does he shop daily for the food, he prepares the food as well, and his one stop shop features old style comfort foods that bring back memories for the customers who long to go back to the States or Canada... The specialty of the house is a once a month Prime Rib fest featuring beautiful cuts of meat and great flavors, served with corn on the cob and mashed potatoes and gravy. This night sells out as it is once a month... Other menu items feature a fresh fish, cooked to perfection, and usually a steak dinner. There is a house chile, (which has beans) that is packed with flavor, and though I would not personally put this chile on a hotdog, I would most definitely bath a bowl of rice or pasta in it and you would have the most wonderful slice of Americana... The Chicken Wings are not your typical wings, but then again the menu is eclectic and deservedly so. The Chicken and Curry is very good, and they even offer Shepherds Pie. Beer and wine as well as a bar is available. Beer is priced right as happy hour runs till about 8pm I think. Wine is priced super fairly, and the selection is very drinkable. You can tell Roger puts a lot of effort into running his restaurant. The decor could definitely be much nicer, but then again what is wrong with a restaurant covered in blue? There is a projection screen for movies and sports, and music when nothing is on TV! As a tourist visiting Vallarta, I dont know if this would be my first stop, but if someone comes to Vallarta enough, and is looking for something different, then this is a great place. Also if you live in Vallarta and miss your home cooked food, Alaska's Diner is the place to come to get your fixings... I like the fact that there are specials every day of the week... and the prices are fair, if not inexpensive! If you are a tourist and want to try an Ex-Pat hangout check this place out, if you live in Vallarta, it is worth visiting and returning. Roger does not disappoint and nor does Alaska's Diner.

“Solid Food at Down to Earth Prices”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

We have dined at Alaska's Diner several times and enjoyed every meal. The steak we have enjoyed is blackened with Rogers mix of seasonings is flavourful, tender and a generous portion. Alaska's Diner is on our go-to list.

“"A DIFFERENT DINING EXPERIENCE"”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

This is one of those out of the way places that are really unique. Prices are low to moderate. Quality is great. Roger even has a trailer trash food menu thats really low priced. Wine and beer available and a limited amount of liquor.

“Ratings integrity”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

We visit PV at least once a year and are always looking for a new, good restaurant to add to our list of favorites. Alaska's Diner, based on all but one of the ratings, was a good candidate. Yes Roger, the owner/chef is a funny guy. We ordered margaritas but he had no tequila so he sent his "hottie" waitress down the street to buy some. He had a bottle of mix which he proceeded to open with his teeth. The ice he used was made in a refrigerator somewhere and kept in a plastic chill box on the floor of the restaurant. It is the kind of ice that is half moon shape and made in a Frigidaire. My wife had the chicken curry which was more bones than chicken and the rice was half done despite the rice cookers available in the kitchen. I ordered the "signature" shepherds pie. It was little more than a freeze dried back packers meal with a little cheese sprinkled on it.
If you want some laughs and a few beers then Alaska's is OK. If you want a decent meal there are many choices beyond Alaska's. They do have a nice web site however.

Thank you for dining at Alaska's Diner. I am sorry that you were not pleased with your experience. Please allow me to respond to your review. The first complaint was about margarita mix. This is not used in this restaurant so any comments regarding such are not factual. Next, complaining about the shape of ice cubes? Come on. (Its triple filtered water frozen with a Whirlpool ice maker.) The Thai Chicken Curry is authentically prepared using thighs trimmed then chopped into 2 pieces and includes approximately 10 pieces of meat and 2-3 large bones per order and inspected for shards before cooking (its served with a bone plate). Finally, the Shepherds Pie consists of a quarter pound (after cooking) seasoned ground beef, 6 ounces frozen corn, a half pound of mashed potatoes and is topped with a quarter pound of shredded cheese. It is then warmed in a microwave to a piping hot temperature. Hardly a "freeze-dried back packers meal" at 22 ounces per serving. Alaska's Diner has only 7 tables thereby placing customers within 15 feet from the owner or server at any time which would easily allow for complaints or comments and prevent such reviews as "Ratings integrity".
