“Great food and exellent staff”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

One evening I and my husband we were looking for a good place to eat. We were looking for sea food restaraunt with ocean view. When I saw Viejo Vallarta, I said "Let´s try here". And we´ve never regretted about this choice. First the food. Is simply amazing! The chef really loves his job and puts a lot of passion to very plate. The same about waiters, they´re not waiters, they´re your friends:). Especially my respect to David, he was really friendly with us. Congratulations, this restaraunt is one of the best in Puerto Vallarta.

“Ask for Panchito! I think that was his name after all the margs...”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

While on a Christmas holiday in Puerto Vallarta, my family and I spent considerable time in the old town area. Although we knew Puerto Vallarta had numerous (and fantastic) options for Mexican dining, the location, atmosphere, service, and food of Viejo Vallarta captured us not once, but twice for lunch during our old town visits!

Nestled right up to the seaside road, the 3rd floor, open-air dining area features panoramic views of the beach and plaza which is worth a visit in itself. While decor was typical of any US-based Tex-Mex restaurant, the food and service were above and beyond for even that of Mexico!

Panchito was our server on both occasions and came with a smile whatever our request - tequila shots, switching tables, asking for suggestions - he truly made the experience. The food was of equal delight and freshness, with the mole sauce and anything seafood related a must have on your visit. Just don't dip too much of your chip into the special red sauce before your meal comes, you'll burn your mouth off! Or you can always try and wash it down with the delicious 1 USD margaritas.

Excellent all around! Thanks Viejo Vallarta and Panchito, you were the highlight of our visit.

“Had all the components for a low score...and it was still a 10”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

My husband and I had our Christmas Eve dinner here. We were strolling by and were greeted by the host by the doorway. We took a look at the menu and decided to give it a try. Even if we found the food to be marginal, we knew the view was spectacular...so up we went. We were seated at a table for two at the railing with a nice breeze and romantic view. Then a friendly waiter approached and introduced himself as Pancho. Nice man, took our drink order and then..the place starts to fill. Table after table arrived..this was Christmas Eve for goodness sakes and their staff must not have thought they would be busy. The drinks come with a smile. We order guacamole and it is delivered after a short wait. The service is slow (not because they were ignoring us, it was just immediately busy!) and yet, we didn't mind. Pancho's smile from across the room reminded us that we were on his radar; he just couldn't get to us. The view was so spectacular and we saw the plates coming out for other tables that arrived before us, so we saw that the food looked amazing. We ordered and waited, no longer starving since we finished the guacamole (fabulous by the way) and just relaxed. When it was our turn to be served, we agreed that it was worth the wait. Service was really over the top...Pancho could have reacted with anger to his being bombarded, but he handled it with grace. The host could not have been more pleasant, making sure that he gave us updates on our meals. Like I said, it could have been a bad experience. The true test of a restaurant is how they handle the stress, and Viejo Vallarta made us feel so comfortable on a busy night that all we could say was Merry Christmas and we will be back!

“Still good after 30 years”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

My husband had been there 30 years ago and when he realized it was still open after all that time, we ate there on our first night in Vallarta. The service is excellent but we had two or three waiters attending so it can be confusing. The portion are very generous and the food is good. We both had shrimp, coconut for my husband and Connie for me (stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon). Both were excellent. And of course, ice cream for dessert, since the best vanilla ice cream is found in Mexico. All this with a view of the Malecon and the ocean.

“Good food and service”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

The restaurant is located approximately in the middle of Malecon with the nice ocean view from its 3rd floor. They offer you $1 beer or Margarita when you dine there. The service, selection and taste of the food is very good and prices very reasonable.
