Went again and had the pozole they are famous for. Love their agua de jamaica. Had flan for dessert again and it was great. Ordered the buneulos to go again, hard to eat only one. If you want good authentic Mexican food for a good price where the locals go then this is the place. They are not open Monday and Tuesdays. Family run business.

Celia's has been a big favourite of ours over the past few years. It was "here we go again" time this past May, when we revisited and dined twice during our stay. Everything - food, service, and prices - were as good as ever!!
What we had, and so-enjoyed: beer (15p) and agua fresca (10p), w/nacho chips and salsas, entrees of pig's feet (50p, large serving, the "tootsies" smothered in a tasty red sauce, that had vinegar in it - an added delight - and some veggies), enchilada's (50p, four on the plate, two beef and two chicken, each very well-stuffed, w/frijoles, and small lettuce/tomato salad), pozole w/chicken (50p, large bowl, hominy, chicken, veggies, and very tasty broth, w/shredded cabbage and slices of lime on the side, a 'real' meal in a bowl!!), for dessert, flan (18p, so creamy, total "yum", in our opinion, the best to be found in Vallarta!!).
We love Celia's!!!

Our friends took us here as this was their favourite place for pozole (a local recommended it to them). It opened at 6 and gets very busy later. My mexican husband was thrilled to have pozole with all the parts in it, I stuck to the chicken. Best pozole I have had in a restaurant. Delicious. Our friends also ordered tongue tostadas, I ordered chicken enchiladas. All food was great, the agua de jamaica was great so ordered another. The flan was super. My husband ordered the bunelos in the to go bag, which he opened and our friend helped him polish it off. He got another to go. For the 4 of us it was $52 which included a large pozole to go for our friends. I almost hate to give it a good review because it is a place the locals go to and I hate to see it get busier. Since that would be mean, I decided that this best kept secret of the locals needs to be shared with all who love authentic mexican food. Yes, the place was spotless and service is quick. Can't wait to go back in November and try other things on the menu.

Our wonderful driver Gustavo is a member of the family that has run this restaurant for almost 30 years. It is right next to the much more upscale Naranjo -- off the beaten path but not impossible to find. If you think Mexican food is what they serve at Chipotle, you MUST go to this place to taste the real deal. The local dish is pozole (a soup with meat, vegetables, and hominy) and this is the best in town (just ask the locals). It is a meal in itself, but they also have wonderful flautas, tamales, and chicken. Leave room for the flan -- not the tasteless refrigerated stuff you ate elsewhere but the real thing made on the premises. The food is worth any price but the best thing is that it costs next to nothing. You will be hard pressed to spend more than $10 per person no matter what you eat. We literally fed seven people for what one entree cost the night before, and it was much better. Ask for Senora Celia herself when you are there. Chances are good that she will be in the open kitchen in the middle of the place, surrounded by four generations of her family. (Note that this is place has beer only, but you are welcome to bring wine on your own.)

We discovered Cendauria Celia (otherwise known as Paolo's) from another restauranteur. My husband wanted real pozole and this is the place for it! We went during dinner and the restaurant was packed (when all the other restaurants in town were empty due to lack of tourists). The pozole can be had with chicken, pork, shredded meat and/or other parts and vegetarian. We decided on shredded pork which was really delicious; the broth was flavorful and light. We also had a combination of beef and chicken sopes which were the best we've had in Mexico. I had chicken enchiladas which were also quite good. For dessert we had flan and another dessert called jerricaya, which is a less sweet version of flan. Both were fantastic. With 2 beers, the total bill was around $25. This is real, authentic Mexican food from the state of Jalisco.
