“Fantastic stay at the Quinta Maria Cortez”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

I guess you could say I'm hooked on staying at the Quinta Maria Cortez. I've been there 15 times in the last seven years!!! It has it all ... beautiful location on a private beach but walking distance to town, exquisite rooms, superb service from the staff, incredible breakfasts included and reasonable prices. I'm treated like a member of the family there ... but what says it all is that first-time guests are as well.

A refreshing alternative to the standard all-inclusive Mexican resorts. The location has great character and the staff were warm and attentive. The crashing of the waves on the rocks made for wonderful romantic sunsets followed by a great breakfast. Highly recommended.

We saw this place on our last trip to PV and thought it looked so interesting. So, we booked a week here. The room was very large, very charming especially in the evening with all the candles they provided lit up at night. So many great things to talk about...great pillows, linens and towels (yes, it matters), fabulous breakfast in the morning starting with fresh fruit plate, yogurt, granola and then choice of omelets, waffles, eggs or other things, bottled water in your room every day, great staff who were very kind and helpful and the best part was being on the water with great views and the sound of crashing waves.
The location was a bit outside of town and very quiet, but a nice walk to the main hub of things. We walked every day to town and the beaches and taxied at night time. Whenever a taxi was needed it showed up in less than 5 minutes and the staff recorded the car plates. They made sure the guest felt safe and cared for. Oh yes, and internet service for those of us who still needed to do some work while away.
This would be fabulous for a group event....family or friends. All kinds of rooms, some with small pools plus a shared small pool. We talked about doing this. I was on this trip with my husband and my best friend had an awesome room as well.
Bottom line is beautiful views, wonderful service and extras and such a great time.

We stayed at the Quinta Maria Cortez for 7 nights. As luck would have it we got to experience some time in three of their rooms. We stayed in the Maximilliano, the Maria, and the Alejandro!!! All of the rooms have their unique features, but the Maria stands out among them all. The decor, the view, and the bedroom were all stellar! The Maximilliano is on the very top and was the hottest temperature wise in the non-air conditioned room/ktichen area (bedroom had AC), but the view was amazing. The Alejandro on the second floor felt the most "open to the fresh ocean air" allowing a cool breeze despite no air conditioning.
In addition, the staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was an amazing addition to their services and made us feel like we were staying at a true bed and breakfast. Jose and Roberto made us feel like family and we wish we could have taken them back to the States with us.
We highly recommend the QMC and we will return many times in the future!!!

Room Tip: Maria all the way!

What a wonderful surprise! We read the reviews on this place and couldn't really believe that EVERYONE loved this place. It is true! It is remarkably amazing. We stayed in Maria, a wonderful suite on the 6th level (?) one level under the top. The view is breath taking, the suite is very comfortable, and the sleeping area is well air conditioned. It's large with tons of space for your "stuff". You won't feel like you are living out of a suitcase in these suites. The kitchen is complete with small stove and refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave. There are two balconies in the suite, both with spectacular ocean views. The fireplace with candles lends a romantic touch in both the setting area and the bedroom. We loved the mosquito net in the bed room, and used it even though there were no problems with mosquitos. It's just so romantic! The king size bed was comfy, and the linens were definitely high quality, very soft and felt wonderful after a day in the sun.

The décor is eclectic with beautiful antiques and faux painting. A door may be a coffee table, an old wardrobe a computer hutch, very shabby chic. We loved the setting and admired the historic pictures and paintings. Something fun around every corner!

If you need video stimulation, take your own as there are no TV's or players. We down loaded movies onto our tablet before going ( a must as google store and some others, will not sell to your account while you are in Mexico) and watched them in our room in the evenings, if we wanted entertainment.

When we arrived were greeted by Daniel, the assistant manager. He showed us around the property, while our luggage was taken to our room. Very warm and friendly feeling from the moment they open the door for you! There was bottled water, sodas, and beer waiting in the refrigerator. Restaurant information and other services were explained to us. We were then left to explore and relax on our own. It's almost strange how you rarely see the staff, except when you need them, they are suddenly there!

Each morning we were greeted by Daniel in the dining area, served fresh orange juice, hot coffee and a tray of wonderfully fresh fruit. That's just a starter....you are then offered anything under the sun for breakfast, the chef will prepare whatever you want. This isn't a prepared buffet breakfast, but made to order just like you like it. Waffles, French Toast, Mexican Omelet, you name it. Homemade Granola is a must to try!

Jose, it the General Manager, and he is equally charming and helpful. Need a cab? Just say the word and as if magic, one appears in about five minutes. The staff is knowledgeable about the restaurants in town and those that are within walking distance of the hotel. Everywhere we went the food and service was excellent. One great thing about the restaurants in Mexico, is that they don't bring the bill until you ask for it. You never feel rushed!

The beach is nice, but somewhat rocky...take water shoes. The pool is refreshing even though it's small. The property caters to couples and is small, and rarely is everyone "home" at the same time. We only shared the pool with another couple one time...otherwise, we pretty much had it to ourselves when we wanted to use it. Mostly we went down to the beach. The staff will see that there are chairs and umbrellas, and there are fresh towels in the "beach" room. The beach here is fairly private ( as private as they can be in Mexico)...no problems with vendors trying to sell you something every 5 minutes. There are a couple of food vendors that come by in the afternoon, we didn't try the treats, but other guest said they were good. If you need a gentler beach...go south about 150 yards, over the brick stairway, and you will find a more open beach.

Evenings are quite, and there is a restaurant (La Playita) about a 10 min walk down the beach that has fantastic Margaritas. Watch out...they will sneak up on you! La Playita has good food ( try the coconut shrimp or sampler platter) and the service is great too. Prices are average for the style of restaurant, great spot to view the sunset!

There are many good restaurants just a short cab ride from the Villa, in the Romantic District and the Central District. Some of the best were the smaller local spots. Hop up on a stool, and have one of the best fish taco's in the world at Marisma's, or traditional street taco's at Pancho's Tako's
( right next door to Café De Ollo another great place!). You will find anything and everything! River Café is remarkable too...great Margaritas!

In a nut shell, Quinta Maria Cortez, is a great place to stay but it's not for everyone. It's removed from the crazy bar scene, on the outskirts of town, requires a cab to get most places, and does not have 24 hour room service. But, if you are looking for something, very up scale, private, and a place where quality and service abound...Quinta Maria is for you!

We are already planning our next getaway to this place!

Room Tip: If you prefer to sleep and bathe in AC, be sure to check out Maria...AC is a must for my husband and...

We came across this property about four years ago while walking down the beach from Playa Los Muertos. We loved the elegant funky Mediterranean design. This past February we finally secured reservations for ten nights in the Guadalupe Suite. For us it was idyllic; a spacious ocean-front suite, wonderful breakfasts, ideal location - just a 15 to 20 minute entertaining walk to Los Muertos and old town, very few vendors. The service provided by Roberto, Jose, and the cleaning staff is the perfect balance of being readily available, but never intrusive. We booked a couple of weeks in 2014. This is the first time we've returned to the same destination and property two years in a row. But then I love PV, especially old town and for us the QMC is our paradise found.

I'm not one for the "touristy" areas of a location like PV but I do like options. QMC offers the best of both worlds. Sitting on the patio of the Raphael Villa feels like a true escape; it's quiet and peaceful with the sounds of the ocean serving as a backdrop. You could even say it feels secluded. And it's BEAUTIFUL. I'm especially picky when it comes to spending my hard earned money on an escape and aesthetics play a big part in making a decision. QMC nails it with it's rustic Mexican charm that will leave you wanting to redesign the vacation home of your dreams. Everything is just right from the comfort of the beds to the light fixtures to the tons of candles ready to be lit as you sip a cocktail and leave thoughts of modern urban living behind. The staff is fantastic, friendly and accommodating in every way from the delicious breakfast options that are included (not continental...a real-just the right amount- kind of tasty morning fare) to the daily cleaning. You feel like you're away from it all but then you're just a 20 min (slightly rigorous) walk/hike to the beach or a $6 cab ride to all the action including some fantastic restaurant options. It's really the best of both worlds which means you can hideout, hangout or dabble in both. And if you're looking for villas to host more people, their second property directly next door (which I got to tour as they were between guests) is equally a treasure that can come with options like a chef to prepare some meals and each villa has it's own small pool. The beach at QMC is pretty rocky (but beautiful) so you'll want to stroll up or down the beach for a better swimming spot or even do a day trip to a secluded beach. Price, location, staff, accommodations are all just what you're looking for in a PV getaway.

Room Tip: Stayed in Raphael which has two beds, one upstairs and one downstairs (neither have doors). The bath...
