Crown Paradise Golden Resort Puerto Vallarta
Ranked #41 of 121 Hotels in Puerto Vallarta
Reviewed August 6, 2004

Just returned from a long weekend trip to Puerto Vallarta. Having read varying trip reports on the Crown, I was somewhat apprehensive. The Crown is a nice property (not exceptional), however clean and functional. Catering to a mixed crowd of 18 to 60+ year olds, you set your itenerary to please yourself. Good food served throughout the property (including 24 hr room service), exceptional food/service @ Salvadors. Be sure and have the Sexy Coffee. I'm sure there a few kinks that some folks would dislike (red wine is poor except @ Salvadors), not anything unbearable. PR (Carla Castro) arranged for a very nice room with kitchen, dining and sitting area that additionally complemented the trip. PV is a beautiful city, be sure and walk the Melacon (bustling with activity in the evening). If your looking for Cancun fast paced style, you won't find it here. PV is more of the "Old Mexico" style with cobblestone streets and adobe buildings (beautiful). Feel free to Email if further info is desired. Enjoy.

Kindest regards,

We were pleased with all the staff personel, food, and amenities. We were there for a week, there was always food and drinks anytime of day or night. All excellent quality. The restaurants both the Paradise and Salvador's had great food and service. Not excluding the Bella Vista and the Breeze as well as the other places were they provided food by the pool, all great food. The activities personel always had something going on day or night. The shows were great.
The only thing missing is a place where you dance in the hotel area besides the Factory Club. We would go back again.

Well....we just returned from a week long vacation at the Crown Paradise. It was our first time in Puerto Vallarta and our first all inclusive. The CP was nice. Rooms were clean, bathrooms were clean. They didn't have an odor or smell to them. The cleaning people were good. The beds were hard. Very Hard! We order 4 more pillows to our room just so that we could sleep on top of them. The room view was excellent. We had a deluxe ocean front room. The food in the restrauants wasn't bad but wasn't all that great either. The service was GREAT. The food...well it is just different. Breakfast was safe you knew what you were getting when you orderd it. The pool side one was also very good. The drinks were GREAT. and if they make them to weak all you have to do is ask for more alcohol and they do it or if you want top shelf just ask. We did tip the wait staff at the pool as they were wonderful. I sort of felt sorry for them. Carrying round after round tending to everyone. The beach was nice. The beach vendors are not as bad as what I have read about. Sure they ask you and then the next one will come by. But if you just say no thank you they leave you alone. They are actually quite fun especially towards the end of the day. Went parasailing off the beach right in front of the CP and they did a wonderful job, as smooth as can be. At night they bring out the horses on the beach and for $30 you can ride for 1 hr down the beach or just pull up a lawn chair and watch the sunset and the fireworks from the pirates ship cruise. Getting a cabana by the pool you must do early. I got up at 7:30 every morning went to the front desk and got the towels and then put them on the chairs to reserve them. If you don't do this don't plan on getting a cabana by the pool until after 7 at night and then you don't even need one. On the beach you will have no problems. The pool water was warm, almost too warm but the area was clean. Overall the CP was good. It is a 5 star to mexico standards. It is not a big thrilly hotel so don't expect that. But it is nice. I would agree with the one that said it was comparable to a holiday inn in the states. I would say if you can get a good deal this is a great place to come and best of all there were no little kids running and crying around you. We have three of our own and it was heaven not to have to be around that for a week while of vacation. Now Puerto Vallarta in it self is questionable. We love Cancun and will go there again and again. PV wasn't all that nice. We ate at a few good places like the Shrimp Factory and the Panaroma and both were excellent but the Malecon and downtown area was not desirable. Nothing like Cancun. If you are really into the Mexican and I mean the real old time mexican culture then you will love it there. We like things a little more modern and then is definetely not the place. The night clubs in town were geared towards the 18 year olds, and played punk rock music. Even Senior Frogs which we love in Cancun and usually are there at least every other night, in PV it is very small and played Rap music. I like a mix of music but not that stuff over and over again. We ended up leaving after 2 hours. If you are looking for a place to relax, take walks on the beach, Kayak, jet skiing or laying by the pool then find a good resort like CP and spend your time there. If you are going to see something different as far as the town goes skip PV and go to Cancun. If you want the PV experience all you have to do is go to Cancun hop on a bus and take it downtown and that is even better than PV. Not all that impressed with PV but the crown was very nice. It was about $4-5 to take a cab into town. Walking distance to the marina where the cruise ships dock. Good Service, Great Views and Great sunsets!!!!

We recently returned from our Puerto Vallarta vacation. We were there for one week; July 9 - July 16. We booked our trip through worry-free vacations. Worry-free was very helpful in giving us all the information we needed to help make this trip even better(where to exchange money for the best rate, which tours to take, etc).
I was a bit concerned with some of the reviews I had read. I must say, we found nothing at all wrong with the resort. The rooms were clean and spacious with a walk-out balcony. The view from the oceanfront room was wonderful. The grounds were very clean. The food was excellent at the Paradise and at Salvadors (you need a reservation for each of these restaurants, which we never had a problem getting). Also, their menu changes daily, so if you don't like what they have to offer one day, check back the next. I highly recommend the sexy coffee. The presentation of this is awesome and it tastes great, too! There was always a variety to choose from at all the restaurants. Room service was a very pleasant addition. No need to get up early to go eat breakfast, just have it delivered at a scheduled time in the morning. It was about a half an hour late each morning. We were on vacation, so no big deal to us. I saw reviews saying the drinks were watered down. We did not encounter this at all. They do have some top shelf liquors, but you do have to inquire about them. They are not out on the shelves. The only beer inside the resort is Sol. I am not a beer drinker, but my husband liked it just fine. The factory club across the street, which is part of your package, has Dos Equis if you need a change.
The activities staff is excellent! They have activities most of the day. We only took part in the pool activities and the nightly show. Both were a lot of fun. The daily activities got you involved with the other guests and we met some great people while there. If you want to experience real Puerto Vallarta night life, the staff is there after their nightly show(9:30 - 10:30) to take you out on the town. The energy and enthusiasm of this staff is truly amazing!
The vendors on the beach are not nearly as bothersome as some would make it seem. If you simply say no thank you, they move on. If you do want something, they do whatever they can to make you happy. It seemed you could get your items for about ½ of what their starting price was. We just asked around to see what kind of deals the other guests were getting. We went into town and found better prices there(don’t go into town on the days the cruise ship is in...the deals change considerably on those days). A taxi from the hotel costs between 3 and 4 dollars. One last word of advice. There are many timeshare people at the airport, downtown, and even at the resort. They will offer incentives for you to go look at their property. We did not do this, but many of the people we talked to did. They received free tour vouchers, gifts, money, etc. You can really bargain to get what you want. We found that the people in town straight out offered much more. We were offered $200.00 USD cash. Most of the people who did go look at the properties, said it was very high pressure sales.
We took only one tour while we were there. It was the Bloodhound. We really enjoyed it. It is a sailboat ride to a small village called Yelapa. The only way to this village is by boat. We stopped to snorkel on the way. I was told snorkeling here was not all that great, but with the right guide, it was awesome!! Once in Yelapa, wander through the town up the mountainside to a beautiful waterfall. Truly a paradise in the rough. The crew aboard the Bloodhound was top-notch. It was, all in all, a wonderfully relaxing day!
More times than not, a vacation is what you make of it. We were not there to find problems. We were there to enjoy some much needed down time. We found it to be a terrific place to go! Hope you have as much fun as we did!

We will be returning for our 6th stay at the Golden Crown Paradise the end of September. We'll be celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary! This hotel makes us like home away from home every time we come. The staff has always been friendly and many remember us from year to year. As we can only afford to travel once a year, that should tell you that the Golden Crown Paradise does it right! We get frustrated when people complain about slower service or an unfriendly staff. Ya know...ya get back what you give out. When on vacation...slow down and live like the locals. If you are cranky then don't expect them not to be. We enjoy the fantastic view, the variety of drinks, the ala-carte dining, 24 hour room service, the clean & comfortable room, the use of the hotel next door and the entertainment across the street. How much more can you ask for? Hola to all our friends at the Crown Paradise! We look forward to meeting the new customer relations person, Paula, and catching up on what's been going on with Dani, Aldo, Poly, Danny Boy & the rest of the great staff. See you all again soon!

I was very disappointed in my P.V. experience this year. This resort was rated a 5 star on reviews... if you are a person that has traveled before, you will definately know that this resort might be a 2 star. Rooms were not ready when promised, service was horrible....beaches were filthy.....couldn't enjoy laying by or near the beach because the vendors were like vultures, and wouldn't take no for no....food was nothing to write home about....air condition in room blew a little more than what a box fan would....there were very little planned activities on site....promises of non-motorized sports, but the waves were to powerful to enjoy any of these....room service was pitiful - if they arrived at all, it was at least 1-2 hours late and the food was cold...all adult resort, but the night shows were inappropriate for adults such as Disney themes - adults dressed like disney characters lip syncing to Disney songs...not enough towels...and the list goes on and on. Save your money, or yet, pay a little more to go somewhere nicer...you'll be glad you did.

We returned from our stay on July 4/o4 My wife and myself and our 2 adult sons stayed in 2 rooms. Everthing was great except one serious problem. The hotel was great, beautiful, clean etc. The food and service was good. I would definitely recommend the hotel and staff. Aldo, Edwardo and Enrique were extra helpful and friendly. The bad part. Our two sons were put in a jail cell for allegedly not paying a bar bill while downtown. After talking to many people at the hotel and at home it turns out this is not too uncommon. They did pay the original bill and felt justified in not paying twice. The police took them in hancuffs to jail. The money they did have on them was taken by the police. We had to pay more to get them out. Very scary and maddening. I realize the hotel had no control over this, but I would hope they and other properties could pressure the powers that be to make it stop. Also maybe it will save it from happening to someone else. While I wholeheartedly would recommend the hotel I can't recommend anyone visit PV.
