I don't know if it was the time of year (April) but there were way too many locals during our stay. Daily activities were dominated by non-english speaking people. We barely took part in any pool activities or socialized with any others at the resort at night.

We stayed in Section 2. Were able to use all the facilities shared with section 1, only difference was no balcony or ocean view with our room. We also didn’t get access to premium liquors at the bar.

Room was clean and maid service was great. No alarm clock or remote though. Ask at the front desk and they have remotes for the TV. Free pay safe included.

Pools were nice and well maintained. 3 pool bars. Pool activities were a little disorganized and dominated by locals. No problems finding chairs by the pool. The beach infront of the main pool was nice and sandy free of rocks.

Lobby bar only exists in Section 2 and it is very disappointing. Not a great place to sit for happy hour or in the evening. It was very uninviting to guests and often empty. Table and chairs were of poor quality. The beach bar in section 1 was also open late. This was a nice quiet place in the evening that sometimes had a one man guitar player. The bartenders and waiters were wonderful.

A’la-carte restaurants were good. The buffet was just ok. Pool snack bar was only American fast-food like hamburgers, hot dogs, and fries; no Mexican snacks like taco’s or sandwiches.

Overall probably wouldn’t stay at the Pelicano’s again unless I got a really good deal.

Okay. I was pretty sceptical about staying here after reading the reviews. Here's how it is. Shell Vacation Club bought some/all of the resort a few years ago. It has 3 places to stay: Section 1 (mainly a hotel), Beach Club (again I believe a hotel setting) and Section 2 which has an old an new part. We stayed in the old part one room down from the new part in Section 2. We had an "ocean view" which looked over the pool area (gorgeous by the way- no complaints on the pools [4 to be exact]) and out to the ocean. We had a 2 bedroom unit which had a kitchen with granite counters but hotplate style stove. We had daily maid service if you wanted it. Our main complaint was that it was so musty in our room, nothing dried fast and there weren't dryers in the rooms so I'm doing a lot of laundry today. By listening to the timeshare, we were able to do the all-inclusive for $27/day for 4 days. So that was great! For that, you would be rude to complain about the food. Location wise, it was about 2 "blocks" from the main street and bus system. Taxis were right outside and very helpful (we took them twice.) There was a Mega store about 4/5 blocks away and a Gigante about the same distance. It was right on the beach and had access to it. Everyone was extremely helpful at Pelicanos, we felt like family.

We were in for a change this year, after twice staying in Cancun, and no one had been here, so.... We arrived in typical tourist mode, waiting for the lines at the airport, and were suprised by the lack of it. On to the Hotel, where the two parties of us tried to check in. One couple had no problem the other, well, it was a hassle. On to the rooms. First room we were led to we walked in, turned around and walked out. Sensory overload of mold. Went back to the desk and tried again. Sent us to another room, worse. Back to the desk, another room, nasty, and they would put a dehumidifier in for the smell? HELLO!!!!!. Finally we got a half way decent odor reduced room on the back side of the 3rd floor.
On to food. Passable. We were here for 12 days, from the 22nd of Sept. to Oct 4. The buffets were not even close to the Cancun resorts we stayed at. Reminded me of cheap institutional food you would get at a cheap buffet restaurant. Bacon for breakfast only 3 days, asked for it 2 others, got it once. Became real fond of pork chops and pork steak. The four of us were trying different dishes nightly, and resorted to previous favorites when the new stuff dissappointed us. Signed up for the italian restaurant one night, 2 days prior, and the earliest seating was at 7:30, not. Turned out they opened at 7. Never saw more than one couple in the restaurant if we walked by. Other couples we talked we not that impressed either.
Pool was ok, the swim up bar was our friend, the ocean smelled and looked murky the whole 2 weeks. Far cry from Cancun.
There was a great massage place right outside and to the left of the front entrance, next to a small convenience store and a glass shop. We had several over the 2 week stay.
After experiencing the time share nightmare in Cancun we steered clear of all. Rather pay full price than be insulted by these sharks.
Staff, buffet and bars, great, front desk, ok. Cleaning staff, good. Grounds, clean. We drank the water at buffets and bar, no problem, although we did purchase water across the street at a small market. Same bottle as in the hotel for 51 cents, jug like a gallon for $1.80. Overall experience, passable, we didn't like the town, was not impressed with the ocean or beach, not impressed with the hotel, and not impressed with the food. So 2 dots only.

First, let me say that the room itself was good. Great view of the ocean with a huge balconey. The maid service was good and daily.

Upon checking in, my parents were told that the 2 bedroom that they had booked was not available. After 1 full day of contacting various people at the resort, my parents were able to move the second day into the correct place that they had booked.

One thing that was terrible was the food. Do not eat at this place. Second, while you are checking out, the maid goes in your room and counts the glasses, dishes, silverware and inspects your room. My dad had gone to check out, so when my mother and I got to the front desk we were informed that since we did not wash our dirty dishes that we would have to pay 50 pesos!!! We told them to take the $5 we left for the maid and apply it to that. Now, isn't that a scarey thought? When you arrive in your new, "clean," fresh hotel room, the dishes there may have been "spit cleaned" by the previous occupants. Then we were told that one of our bath towels was too dirty. Yes, you read correctly. We were told that we would have to pay extra because one towel was too dirty. We explained that we had been to the beach and washed our feet with the towel, so it should be expected to be dirty. While we were waiting to speak to someone to give us the contact info for the owner, the bell boy brought the dirty towel up to the guy at the front desk!!!! The guy at the front desk just put it under the desk out of sight. Needless to say, we did not pay extra for the towel.

Another thing that we noticed. We were staying above the pool and could look out over it. We could see every day all the dirt in the bottom of the pool and the haze that was in the pool. It never appeared throughout our stay that the pool was being shocked and vacuumed daily in order to get rid of the debris.

We have never stayed in a place that counted the dishes, etc, nor have we ever been expected to wash the dishes prior to exiting. My parents stay in Puerto Vallarta every year for a month, so they are well acquainted with the way many different resorts and hotels in the area.

While the location of the Pelicanos is convenient to go other places, I would not recommend staying there.
