“Best of both worlds -- All-inclusive feel, but not far from town”
Reviewed April 22, 2009

The Melia combines the best of an all-inclusive with easy access to downtown PV. It's a $15 cab fare into town, or you can take the bus with pocket change and get there in about 20 minutes.

The food was good and plentiful -- both the buffet and the restaurants. The midnight snack was particularly welcome.

The hotel had a good mix of domestic and international guests, which represented a welcome break from the usual tourist enclaves. This also meant that the hotel served an excellent mix of Mexican and North American dishes.

The beach is great. Heading North you can go past the airport and visit the locals' beaches. The Marina itself is tucked in behind the hotel. It makes for a nice morning walk, with some bars and restaurants if you want a change from the hotel, later on.

Make sure to try some of the excursions that are being sold from the lobby. Many of them start from the Marina, which is particularly convenent.

Both the airport and golf are close. The Marina course is nothing special, but it is a good challenge, it's well-kept and practically across the street. The hotel staff can arrange for deals there, and at other courses.

Watch out for the time-share sellers, especially coming out of the airport. If you have an airport transfer arranged, do not listent to the time-share folks who claim will claim to be your ride, get past them and find your real ride near the exit.

Normally, I do not travel with young children and I would have hated this place. However, if uou are looking for a place that is designed for families and kids, look no further. This All Inclusive is pretty, great large pool, nice beach, and has better food and service than Dreams Puerto Vallarta. However, if you do not like kids and find kid themes (Flintstones day) annoying, you will hate it. I selected this place as I would be with my young nieces. They considered it a dream come true. One was an actress one evening in the show. They did arts and crafts things and had a ball. I had fun too as they enjoyed so much. Congratulations to Melia for a great family friendly place. I did escape for a very good massage done at their beachfront spa. It is also not one of these awful 500 room AI properties that run like a factory. Good mix of American and Mexican kids - oddly no Canadians here and I always find that Pto Vallarta packs them in from Canada. Also met a few Europeans

We were very happy here the entire time. We wtn with our 15 month old and 7 year old. This is our second stay at a Sol Melia - they are top notch. The staff was kind, the kids club was great for both ages of kids. The beach is not perfect but our kids still liked walking along it and swimming. Yes, the pool is huge and the grounds are goergous. They have built their own sand bar next to the beach above it and you can get your drink delivered there!

Well I just returned from the Melia (late last night). We liked this hotel. Got it for a great package price, and wasn't sure what to expect. My first all inclusive. Was about what I expected. The food is good, NOT 5 Star, but GOOD! All inclusives don't always have 5 star food. They have so many actiivites it's like a cruise ship on land. PERFECT FOR FAMILIES. My husband and I did not have our kids' but loved the staff and all the things they did for the kids. (as well as for us) As a result they do announce at the pool what is going on in case you didn't read your little newsletter that is given on your door knob each morning. Or the same list in the lobby area. Again, this resort was like a cruise ship on land.

We did have the "M" experience, so we did have an ocean front room. GREAT VIEW. slept great, the bed was a little firm for us, but we had a little card asking what extra we might need (foam cushing was on there) so, we checked it and got it! helped with the firmness. VERY CLEAN, but yes old. HELLO IT'S PUERTO VALLARTA. This is an old town. The staff was AMAZING, don't tget the kind of service at some of the BETTER establishments here in the states that we got at the Melia!!!!

If you have a family, this is the place, they have so much to offer. If we make it back to PV, will bring the kids here, as there is just so much to offer.

Downtown is a little far to walk, but taxi is ONLY 80 pesos(about $7). PER TAXI- NOT PERSON.

I travel a lot for business and pleasure and I must say that the Melia Puerto Vallarta gave me one of the best experiences I've ever had. I had an M-Experience room overlooking the bay. It was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The staff at the hotel was professional and solution-oriented. The dining experience was much better than most all-inclusives and the selection of activities both on location and off made for a well rounded holiday. It was an anticlimactic event leaving... but I will definitely be back.

I just returned from a week there. I had booked the trip a long time ago and had read tons of reviews on it. They were not on target. The resort is ok. Even nice in some areas. Room was fine. The food sucks. Especially if you don't eat seafood. The meats are terrible. Breakfast is disgusting. The service was fine untill checkout which was a small ordeal. The pool is ok except for the annoying announcements constantly. So we had fun but will not return. There are good deals out there. Do not pay more than $150 a night for this older resort.
