The only really good thing about this resort is the food and beverage SERVICE!!! 6 of us recently stayed at the Melia ages 30-59. The food was always the same, and always terrible. We enjoyed the burgers and hot dogs by the pool more than anything! The resort says that it offers quite a few activities, but nothing is every really happening. The evening shows where 95% in Spanish, and just for kids. We never saw any mini golf, shooting range or batting cages. There was a climbing wall??? Didn't see it. They did have pool tables, but bring your own chalk, because they don't carry it! We needed 2 rooms to have king size beds and even phoned in advance to ensure, but upon check in, had all doubles and were told that it was only by availability only. We had to move on the second day. The two males that worked the front desk were rude the entire week! We wanted to golf at the Marina Vallarta golf club ($100.00 for 9 holes) We went to the front desk to book a tee time and was told that the girl who did that type of thing was off that day. The front desk agent tried to phone and said the line was busy... sorry. There was another lady at the "time share" desk that was able to help us.( But if you golf there, bring a CCD or Peso's because they do not accept american money) Being around the pool was amazing if you could get a sunny spot and a cover for your chair. There wasn't enough chair covers for all the chairs, so if we wanted one we had to "steal" it from another chair. There was a children's section at the pool, but no one used it and kids swam freely all over. Peddlers on the beach were annoying but normal, except when they pressure you to buy marijuana consistantly!!??? We ate most days at the buffet, if you do go to this resort, as for Arturo. He was the most amazing server and now a new friend we made! He took time out to ensure us a seat in his section everyday, and make sure we had all the drinks and food we needed! He went out of his way on his day off to pick coconuts to make us COCO-LOCO's! Amazing!!! Amazing man, amazing service! For some reason at this resort they don't offer food between 6pm and 7pm?? No room service, and if there was any, they did not offer any menu in the room, or mention it at all. The lobby bar had great drink service but not enough tables and chairs for all guests, and was full of children. The resort shuts completely down at 1am. No drinks, no food, no lights on the walkways!!??? Oh an no gate security at night?? All in all, any vacation away is nice! Beautiful sunny weather, no snow equals a nice trip. But if you are looking for a vacation away and don't have kids, pay a little extra and stay somewhere else! I know we will!

My husband and I stayed at the Melia for a week in a timeshare room and were very very satisfied with everything at the hotel - from the food in the restaurants (fantastic!) to the massage to the room. We do not have a single complaint. Our room was a studio and ample for the 2 of us - it even had a jacuzzi tub on the patio. We mostly ate at the individual restaurants and loved each meal. We avoided the regular buffets as having stayed at other timeshares with the same menu we found Melia's to be the same cookie cutter buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinners. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained - this is a resort that also caters to children and has a Flintstone playground just for them. I would not hesitate to stay here again, ever.

I highly recommend taking a taxi to/from the hotel-- it's just a 5-10 min. drive but I think well worth the additional cost. The fare back to the airport is much cheaper than leaving from the airport. The distance is really walkable but with a bag it might be a bit much if you're not familiar with the area.

While there we took a bus downtown for shopping and a trip to Walmart for some basic supplies. We also took the 'tequilla factory/downtown tour/Jardin Eden Tour" and had lunch in Eden - the food & drinks were all very good.

Room Tip: it appears the rooms to the left of the lobby (as you walk in) may be better quality but I'm not...

This was a great deal thats why we decided to go here, and have had some luck at the Melia's before but this one could use a few changes. Rooms were very nice we did have an ocean view which was nice although with 3 other couples we could not have our rooms together even though the resort was maybe 40% full, but minor.
Pools were very nice and the pool service was awesome, probably the best I have had and I have been to Mexico over 30 times. The buffet was less desirable the food was repeated over and over again, and being only 1 buffet for dinner, if you didnt like Mexico night you were screwed. You had to make reservations at the a la carte which I hate, and they only had 1 open per day, so some days we were defiantly hungry. If you didnt get to the reservation desk by 8am you would not be eating there that night, the a la carte were delicious compaired to the buffet.
Breakfast buffet is usually the best, but they kept the bacon behind the lady making the omlets so if you didnt see it you would not of had any, and then the lady cooking looked at you like you didnt need it anyway, they would only have 1 container of this and then they would not have any more so if you got up late 9am it was gon frusterating since my 4 yr old is already a picky eater.
If they fixed the buffet and made more variation this hotel would be a 4 star.
The front desk people were ok, but made you go to your room to get change for pescos bc you needed to show a passport, and the gift shop and everything there only took pescos.
One thing that really bugged me is they have a mini golf which is old and run down but it was 5 bucks per player and a water ball that floated on the pool 5 bucks like nickle and dimed you, the mini golf was horrible but still cost us 25 bucks should of been free it was junk!
Better off spending an extra $300 and go to a hotel that has all there restaurants open and you dont have to pay for extras, another extra $15/ a day for internet!! rip off!

Room Tip: Get the high up ocean view, view is unreal

We love the Melia! For the past three years, we have stayed here.. It's a great resort especially if you're traveling with children. It's very clean, the employees are very welcoming, and helpful and the service is good. The food is good! La Palapa, and their Mexican resturant were my favorite - the Italian, is ok! Everynight was a diferent show, which we really enjoyed.

As for the Bam-Bam kids club, it was excellent! My boys (ages 7, 5, and 2) didn't want to leave it. The ladies that work their are so good with the kids, and I felt very confortable leaving my kids with them. Their are fun activities schedule every day from 10a.m., to 6p.m. Our boys love it!

We have travel allot, and visited all sorts of different countries, but this is by far one of our favorite!

Also, they have a photographer onsite that takes beautiful photos!

We just got back from this resort on Dec. 15th. I will agree with the the resort being clean. But after that it starts to fall apart. There was no bus to take us from the airport to the resort. The transat ( airline) paid for a taxi to the resort. Cost was 50 pecos. Melia has rooms available like a time share, but they won't call it that. As the new guests arrive at the front desk, the staff try to get you to buy these rooms. They say the sales pitch is only 90 minutes. Well we were there for 3 hours, and still didn't buy in. Then if you talk to the tour agents at the resort, they will offer deals on the tours. Well my advice is to wait one day and travel up town to the the city. This will cost you 60 pecos there and back. You will find these same tours at regular prices up town. Which is the same price that the resort is offering at the discount price. Up town you can barter with the tour agents. Also there is a port tax of 20 pecos per person. The only one that doesn't have port tax is the City Tour. I recommend this tour to first time travellers to Puerto Vallarta. There is no bus schedule posted at the resort, so you have to ask for it. Bus will cost 6.50 pecos to travel up town.
The food at the smorg, was basicly the same every day, including the breakfast. The laCarte didn't offer anything special, except what was on the menu. While on the tours, most are day long tours. So lunch or supper will be provide. Keep in mind its in the price of the tour.
We went out to Pipi's restaurant for supper. Resort recommended it. It was a great place,very good food, very reasonable priced, and the staff were excellent.
On the way back we forgot our camera in the back seat of the taxi. We went the public relations the next morning as it was late when we arrived back at resort. ( 9:30pm) The resort made one phone call to taxi company asking if they found camera. Taxi company said no camera found. That was as far as the resort was going, and told us that it was gone. So we went to restuarant that day and say then for help. That night we recieved a phone call that the taxi driver left his number at the front desk. The next morning we went to the public relations for help as we don't speak spanish. We had to pay 6 pecos a minute on the phone as she wouldn't use resort phone. After her talking to the driver we had to pay 300 pecos to get the camera. Hence we did get the camera back.
Now to leave the resort to the airport. We waited to the last minute as it said at the resort flight schedule to leave. No bus or taxi was waiting for us. So we got a taxi, thinking that the airline was paying for the trip back to the airport. About 1/2 way there i asked the driver about who was paying him. He said that we were. I said not and that he better turn around. After fighting my own battle again, the airline agent paid again. The airline agent was a young man playing with his phone in the lobby, which the resort nor I knew he was there.
We will be returning back to Puerto Vallarta, but not this resort.

Room Tip: We never heard any complaints of the rooms.

We just arrived back home from an 8 day stay (was supposed to be 11) at Melia Puerto Vallarta. It is beyond me why people complain in any way about this resort. Is it the newest and flashiest? No. Is it super high end? No. But what it is is a fully functioning, CLEAN, and well served resort.

We were going to be here for 11 days but had to cut our trip short to illness. Our whole family was sick during the first 8 days of the trip, save a one day reprieve. I first thought it was some tainted food we had in the first couple days of our stay and made the front desk and public relations aware. After the rest of the family got sick in the following days I realized it was in no way the food but must have been something the kids had brought home from school before we left (or the plane?!?). Anyway the public relations staff (Alejandra) handled this all very amazing and helped us in any way we needed. My 6 year old needed medical attention--the doctor was fantastic and the Alejandra had the prescription at her desk in the lobby FROM the pharmacy within a 1/2 hr. We also needed special food sent to our room because the kids wouldn't eat anything after a while--and Alejandra contacted the chef on 2 different occasions for that as well. She tried to make us feel as at home as she possibly could. Teresa, part of the service staff ion the buffet and bar areas, could sense our follies and she must be a mom as well because she helped us more than she knows.

We did have to leave 3 days early because my 2 year old just wouldn't get over it--we could take just sitting in a dark room anymore but I can not say enough about the staff and the help we got there. We are very self sufficient people generally but really needed some special attention this time and they went above and beyond.

We may be a little gun shy about traveling with the young family again next winter, but after two years at Melia with superb service, if we were going to, it would be a no brainer where to stay.

Side note, We have had 3 rooms in the past two winters, none smelled like mildew. This is a clean hotel in a humid country. It is what it is, but it is not mildewy.

Room Tip: Higher rooms on west side have good views. Book in summer. We got a fantastic rate.

We have once more returned from our 6th visit to the Melia Puerto Vallarta and it just get's better and better. This time we had three other couples with us and they were just blown away with what they experienced. The staff were just amazing. We had one small maintainance issue that was dealt with in less than 20 minutes. We ate in all the restaurants and did not once eat out. We did not have children but what we saw was fantastic, the manner in which the Melia staff looked after the kid's was superb. We feel that some the negative comments made about this hotel are terribly unfair and unfounded.
Melia (especially Erika and Roberto) once more you did it for us. Thank you, thank you, see you again next year.
