“Nice relaxing vacation”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

Check in process was smooth and only took minutes to our room. The grounds are beautiful and have old mexican charm. The staff are very friendly. Food is just ok. We usually eat out at different restaurants in PV because it is a restaurant heaven. One of the best beaches in PV with good service. There is a choice of swimming pools. My wife and I swam in the large lap pool for exercise everyday. There are massages available for very reasonable prices. I plan on returning next year

Room Tip: ocean fort room in building number nine.

Stayed at the Krystal for a weekend getaway this past weekend.

The hotel bills itself, from its website, as a 4 1/2 star property. It is a 3 star. I was disappointed about the misrepresentation, as I booked it, thinking it was an upscale property. The hotel is probably of the of the oldest in the area, as it is surrounded by brand new high rise timeshare buildings. This hotel, is also a time share facility, and you may be approached to sit down for "free" dinner or tours to listen to the speech. Why anyone would buy a timeshare in this old complex is beyond me.

I went to book this in Canada, as we left, but it didn't go thru for whatever reason. When in Mexico, I booked at the airport, and it was $30 cheaper to book it in Mexico, than at home. The hotel caters to locals mainly, thus a reasoning as to why it was cheaper to book locally.

The hotel is 10 minutes from the airport, and cost $19 by taxi. On the return the cost is $10.
It is not near downtown Puerto Vallarta. But down the street is a grocery store, that is a 5 minute walk, and a walmart that is about 15 min walk. Further down, there is a mall.

It was painfully slow to check in. Im not sure why, as I was the only one at the counter. It was 23 minutes for me to check in.

We chose the all inclusive package. This "resort", is really a hotel, and it is not a typical all inclusive resort you would expect to find in the Dominican, Cuba, or other mainly all inclusive resort locations. As such, the resorts "all inclusive" was very basic. It had two stations, one with a salad section and another with a hot section. It also had a grill station that only has hamburgers and hotdogs. It was very poor in comparison to the aforementioned all inclusive locales, and what your would be use too from a typical all inclusive resort. the lobby bar isnt included in the all inclusive package. You have to pay for drinks here. The drinks were limited as well around the pool, to a few specialty drinks, beer and sodas. If you do book an all inclusive, beware that on your last day, you are required to check out at noon. If you do not, and eat at the buffet, they will ask you to pay for your meal. After 12:00, the "all inclusive" ends., as they run this facility like a hotel, not an all inclusive resort. Again, not typical of what you would be use too, from other true all inclusive locales, where everything is included until you board your bus for the airport.

The room was clean, but sparse. We were in the 4 story building that was on the beach, but we faced the resort. The pool was clean, and there were limited chairs on the beach. It has one pool, a kiddie pool, and six "warm tubs". They bill these as hot tubs, but have lukewarm water.

There is no entertainment at the resort, though they have 2 or 3 staff that walk around. I am not sure exactly what they do, but they say they are the "entertainment staff".

I must say that the hotel staff, as others have pointed out here, are amazing..they are friendly and really try to accommodate you.

I would not stay here again, now knowing, of all of the other places that were available in the area.

The hotel is adequate; nothing to write home about in terms of decor or anything else. Be aware that this is not a high-rise tower right on the beach. It is a collection of low buildings with garden views. There are little electric vehicles that give guests rides across the grounds from the check-in area to their rooms, to give you an idea of how it works. To be on the beach, you need to ask for an ocean-view room and pay the difference or otherwise ask very specific questions when reserving to make sure you end up in the tower on the beach as opposed to in one of the low buildings where you can hardly tell you are even at the beach... you are surrounded by grass. This hotel has been here for years and years and is showing its age. There are newer ones available. The staff was friendly, but consistently gave us 3 towels for a family of 4. The shower handle came off in our hands. They fixed it within 10 minutes but 2 days later, it came off again. The buffet breakfast was not wonderful; most of the offerings were not all that appetizing. That said, we had a fine time. But if we return to Pto V, I will look for a different hotel. OH.. and their outdoor jacuzzis were terrible. Half were stone cold and half were just barely warm every day.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view otherwise you could end up way back in the gardens far from the beach.

75-minute aromatherapy massage for two for $75. That's 50 cents a minute, very hard to beat. You don't need to be hotel guests either. We walked over during a cruise ship stopover. The ladies were very professional and thorough. My wife and I were very pleased. If you Google Earth it the massage rooms are in the gym building on Las Garzas between Gorrion and Canario, behind the huge Palapa bar on the beach. It doesn't hurt to pre-arrange a spa time by email before you travel.

We one this trip to the Krystal hotel and spa, air fare, transfers and all-inclusive program. However before we left we read the previous reviews, and were more than a little worried. The Krystal is an old resort surrounded by newer and higher resorts. We loved the old hotel in our ocean view room we felt like we were on the beach. The service was prompt and polite, never did we wait for coffee in the morning or drinks in the evening. There was yoga on the beach in the morning, water aerobics in the afternoon, and the younger guest seemed to really enjoy the beach and water volley ball. Did we love the food, NO, it was repetative and boring. However the staff would always bring us little extras when we asked. I have never found the food at any all-inclusive to be that great. All in all we loved the feel and hospitality of the Krystal! The only real negative is the strong mold smell thru out the hotel, made better without the air conditioner and keeping the sliding glass door open. Yes we would stay there again.

Room Tip: We loved the old hotel right on the beach. Open the sliding glass door, turn off the air conditioner...

I have a time share here and this visit was sub-par. The villa was in need of updating, like caulk and paint. There was no one working the kids club, which was a major factor in buying here. They cut the pool area way back and it feels cramped now. The staff were still very courteous and kid friendly. The food was good too, especially the breakfast buffet. I love PV. And of course will return, but if I didn't have the time share it wouldn't be my first choice.
