“Awesome Experience!”
Reviewed September 1, 2011

Our sixth year back at Velas Vallarta Resort and, once again, the welcoming accomodations, friendly staff, refreshing pools, excellent food and beautifully manicured grounds made for the perfect family vacation. No violence issues in PV...took the family downtown for some shopping and had a fabulous time. The Malecon is currently under construction...can't wait to see it in 2012! As is customary, we enjoyed world-class service from Donald, Enrique, Javier, Christina, Gabriel and so many others at Velas...thank you! Here's a picture of Alonso at the pool going that extra mile for one of his customers...priceless! Played a few rounds at the Marina Golf Course across the street and, aside from some standing water, the course is in pretty good shape. As always, the kids had a blast and we can't wait to see everyone at VV again next year!

Room Tip: Higher is better...the views are incredible.

We returned from our third stay at Velas Vallarta and are ready to go back again. The staff always makes you feel like their favorite guest and the location can't be beat. Easy walking distance to the Marina and a city bus stop make it too good to pass up. And drink specials shouldn't be passed up either.

We like the Mexican flair here that some of the U.S. branded hotels just don't have and isn't that why you travel to Mexico. We always felt safe for those concerned about crime in Mexico these days. That's another world away. The only downside was leaving to head home.

We loved our stay at the Velas Vallarta resort. Our room was filled with so many creature comforts -- large spacious suites, silky sheets and down duvets, many ceiling fans, flat screen TV's and large balconies with ocean views. The lush tropical grounds had 3 large swimming pools and a beach front too. We enjoyed our all inclusive meals at the beautiful Adriana restaurant and the beachfront restaurant. We also took advantage of the 24 hour room service when it rained during our meal time. The staff really took great care of us and other guests. Our waiters Francisco and Enrique took great care of us at the Adriana restaurant. We were also very impressed with the excellent service Geraldine Becerra and Victor of the Concierge/ special services desks. On our last day, I accidentally injured my lower back. Geraldine and Victor helped to arrange for a doctor to see me on an emergency basis and provide me with the care I needed to be able to return to the states that evening. They also made arrangements for our airport transportation and for a room for us to wait in before we had to leave for the airport. Finally the resort is located in the central and beautiful Marina area. Cab rides to downtown costs only $8-$10. We look forward to returning to this amazing resort.

The property was very nice and the staff aimed to please. Gilberto was our server at the pool and took great care of us. Sunday evening dinner was very enjoyable and we were able to get a sense of Mexican culture in a fun way. Room was clean and room service very good. We had the all inclusive package and were treated well -- didn't feel like we were treated differently than other guests.

My wife and I have been to PV on numerous occasions. This was a birthday and anniversary celebration for us. Airport to hotel was about 5-10 minutes depending on traffic. Check In was fairly easy and received a bottle of wine for our anniversary in our room. Try and get the highest floor possible for the best views.

Rooms: Some reviews stated they were up to date, but not to my standards. They still have the old box TV's, no Flat Screen HD type at all. No DVD players. They were largely adequate though with a large balcony with table and chairs, sliding glass door from the bedroom and the living room. Spacious with full kitchen and fridge with pop, water and beer replenished daily. Snack basket with chips, peanuts, cereal, microwave popcorn. There was a microwave and coffepot as well.

Furniture and room decor show signs of dating as well.
By the way - get a safe key at check in

Maid and Room Service were both excellent. Be specific and clear on your room service orders as they tend to mess it up.

Pool Area and Bar: The service was absolutely amazing , the wait staff are at your beckon call. Whatever you want to eat or drink - they are there for you - We feel we had the best wait server In Jacinto Hernandez. His command of English was perfect and we never had to wait long for anything we asked for. Try and get him and you won't regret it. I will post a picture of him with the review. The temperature of the water was perfect and the activity staff always kept you busy listening to music, doing aerobics, games, etc.
One of the best activity staffs I've seen in a while.

They have one main pool which connects to a smaller pool area. They also have a kids pool which is about 1-2 feet deep. But it seems there were alot of kids and they dominated the main pool quite a bit - which was kind of annoying - but if you have kids, then you would fit right in. Couples maybe not. They have a lazy river you can walk or swim around and they have a swim up bar (Daniel makes some pretty good drinks there) -- Oh and there is a guy cooking hamburgers and hot dogs by the swim up bar at noon.

Beach Area: Wasn't the pretty beaches that you find in the Caribbean - actually the water looked brown to match the color of the sand - I think the beach in the Nuevo Vallarata area is a tad better. The beachfront could use some cleanup if you walk the beach towards the town area - but around the hotel it was adequate. You do have some vendors but they are not too pushy.

Restaurants: They only have two (which I felt is their downfall). The air conditioned one is called Andrea, and very gourmet - you can eat breakfast and lunch there too. Their dinner menu is very limited and they repeat the same menu 3-4 times a week. One night they have a Mexican Menu and it is a joke. You go to Mexico and expect authentic food and they divise their own concoctions from who knows where. The only thing authentic was the refried beans. We went to town one night and ate at a place called Pipi's, now that was great authentic food - and very reasonably priced. With great Margaritas.

The other restaurant they have is an outside restaurant by the beach area called Ribera. They have a variety on the menu, but it gets so incredibly hot in there - even the fans they have blowing can't cut the heat.

On Sunday Nite they have a Mexican Fiesta with dancing and all and a Mexican Buffet. That was pretty good and I would recommend that..

Would I recommend this hotel? For couples - probably not - For people with kids - I would say go for it - you will probably be ok.

We were kinda dissapointed that they opened up the hotel to all the locals on the weekend we were there - I was told by one of the guests that they offer them discounts.
I didn't see the locals tipping the waiters at the bars and restaurants ( I know you don't have to tip at an All-Inclusive - but a token gesture now and then helps them out alot.)

We will travel again to PV, as we go at least once a year. We will not stay at this hotel again - eventhough the service was really very good. Overall - it was just OK for us, as we have stayed at the RIU, Grand Velas, Marvial and the Sheraton Buganvillas in the past and the Grand Velas is the BEST of the bunch and is a sister hotel of this one.

Velas Vallarta Suite Resort is so interesting because of its care for flora and fauna. Peacocks roam the grounds as well as cats and iguanas. (The iguanas don't really roam but stay mostly in a canal which connects two swimming pools.) Other water areas (not for swimming) contain many different kinds of fish.
There are two main restaurants. The one on the beach is more casual and the other, more formal, requires reservations. Both have excellent food, changing every night from French, Spanish, oriental, etc. The suites are spacious with balconies overlooking the ocean. It is all inclusive.

Room Tip: We ask for a room in building 3 as it gets sunshine in the afternoon, not the morning.

This was our eighth stay at the Velas Vallarta, and for good reason. The resort offers everything you could ask for in a beach resort. The location is 5 min from the airport. (you can take a taxi through the golf course and don't have to get on the freeway). Once there you feel like you belong. The gardens that lead to your room are beautiful with lush water accents loaded with kloi fish. The rooms are all up to date including satelite TV. The all-inclusive is truly ALL-INCLUSIVE. The dining selection is world class in variety, whether beach front cassual or classic gormet. The wine list is international. As fas as personal service the staff is there for one reason "your pleasure". With the ocean only steps from your room the sun set is yours each night. We have been to other resorts that look the part, but the Velas delivers every time we go. For you golfers, the course is right acroos the street.
