“EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2010

Hotel Mercurio is an excellent value for the money. The location is excellent....near Olas Altas, a main walking street with lots of restaurants and bars. It is 2 blocks from the beach and a short walk to the gay beach and the Malecon. We LOVED its central location in quaint Zona Romantica.
The staff was great. Friendly, informative, and willing to chat and make you feel at home, particularly Isaac and Danny. The pool is small, but nice to take a dip, chat with other people and relax. The pool and bar/breakfast bar is in a small couryeard that is very cozy. The breakfast is significantly better than a continental breakfast cnad can last you most of the day.
The room had the most importatn ameneties: refrigerator. The room normal sized, with very firm beds. While they do a good job cleaning the rooms, the bathrooms did need updating and new grouting as mold was starting to grow.
We will definitely stay at Mercurio again, thanks primarily to the location and staff.

Great staff and wonderful home made breakfast. The rooms are clean but rough and baths are in serious need updating. The happy hour serves great drinks and you really get to meet some great people from all over the country. I would stay again but I would pick a different room. Stay away from street side rooms, it is very noisy. There are nicer places to stay but you spend so much time outdoors and at the beach that the room becomes secondary. The room prices are fair and you are close to Los Muertos Beach and the Malecon.

Traveled with my mate to PV in February 2010. We had not traveled here before, so the Mercurio was our introduction. Big airy room with a sliver view of the ocean, the location is great. Couple blocks to the beach, coffee right around the corner, free breakfast. Couldn't ask for anything else. They say the bathrooms are in the process of being renovated--that will be a big improvement, but all said , the amenities are fine.
The whole staff, and Danny in particular, were super helpful guides to all the fun in PV.
We will be back.

This was my second stay at the Mercurio. I have stayed at many of the other hotels in town and prefer this for a great stay.
The hotel is centrally located, a short walk to the beach and an equally short walk in the other direction to the clubs. There are numerous bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
The front desk staff is AWESOME. Danny and Isaac really went above and beyond answering every question and making sure we had passes for every club and knew what was going on. Danny even booked us a small boat to take us fishing and snorkeling at a very reasonable rate.
The rooms are somewhat typical Mexico. Nice, but definitely NOT the W. If you are a five star resort queen you should not stay here. Go to Nuevo Vallarta and stay at an american resort. I cant stand 'McRooms'. These rooms are perfect for what you need to do in PV. They are clean, have AC, a TV, wi-fi, a decent, albeit too firm, bed and a decent bathroom.
The pool is awesome, perfect for rinsing off after the beach and having a pre-disco nap cocktail. It gets quite lively at happy hour. The clientele is a little older, mostly 50's but there were some younger folks around. Vallarta has few younger gay tourists anyway.
There is a free computer to check your email/facebook/manhunt. The breakfast is okay, nothing special, egss and a meat as well as continental choices. Its not the buffet at Caesars by any means. We enjoyed it some days and wandered away and got breakfast elsewhere some days.
The hotel is safe, I never felt unsafe in the least. That being said, leave your laptops at home and make use of the in-room safe. Crimes of opportunity happen everywhere, take some common sense approaches to everything and you will be fine. 6th visit to PV and never had an issue.
Remember, if you want that perfect vacation where people wait on you and kiss your ring, Real Mexico isnt for you. Take a relaxed attitude, have fun, do everything on Mexican time, leave your blackberry and watch at home and you will have a fantastic vacation. Its Mexico, nothing is an emergency....

we arrived on a monday and were greeted at the airport with the car i arranged thru the hotel all was in order and the car ride to the hotel was nice the driver was pointing out places to see and go and told us a little about the area.. we arrived earlier than checkin
and were greated and welcomed to use the facilities while we wait or they sugested to grab some lunch and by the time we return the room will be ready... and it was.. the room was a king room with plenty of space, clean and what we expected . we didnt rent at the ritz but we were not disapointed with the room, the bed was very comfortable and relaxing, even though the room was right off the pool area on the first floor. it was quiet and you could get a good nights sleep.. breakfast was provided with eggs. omlets a choice of meets... cereal and fresh fruit and yogurt with bread and sweet rolls.. plenty of coffee and juice . the pool is small but nice and happy hour was a good time.. with dollar beer etc... if your outgoing or not you can meet alot of good people.. all friendly and everyone spoke. while we were their the hotel added a new hot water heater and they are painting the outside of the hotel... they seem to always be making renovations to the hotel all for the better... it is a place that is central located and easy to walk to the beach or to town.. all the reasturants and cafes we ate at were all
wonderfull and all recomended by the staff of the hotel... eveyone their seemed to be their to help you and want to make your stay a pleasent one... we will definetly be returning...

You can stay in more palatial digs; you can overlook the ocean instead of being an easy block and a half away but you won't find a more friendly, happy, helpful, concerned group of people than those who run this small hotel. Alma and her towel creations after cleaning our room, Jorge's smiling bar, Danny, Isaac and Alex beaming at the front desk, Lety cooking inventive breakfasts (luv your homemade salsas!) combine with a group of guests who mirror this family of workers and a vibrant, happy, sunny Vallarta. Close to many excellent restaurants and 4 to 5 easy, safe blocks from all the gay nightlife you'll need, this is the place for me.

After my third year here, I can't wait to go back.

Thanks Paul (owner).

Well, you want to go to a gay hotel in a part of the city - the romantic zone of Puerto Vallarta- where you have a huge choce because every hotel is either gay or gay-friendly, you don't care being in a room which is very small, cavern-like, that smells mold, where you pay more than many other conmfortable and clean hotels nearby and where you would have more room, a balcony and a view; you are ready to trust a webste that shows you somethng really dfferent from what you are going to get, then do not hesitate: go there. f not, f you just want to have some nce vacaton time, go almost anywhere else: it wll cost you less, or not more, and you wll enjoy your room. That hotel s definitely to avoid; wll never come back - nderstand the people I saw leavng after one or two nights here. We have been told t was better two years ago. Well, maybe...
